The Sale trade is haunting us even though he won a title. Because we got talent to make up for his loss that betters our team. Losing a potentially great player in Magical stings less when you add a Rendon and a front line starter in a trade for him. It gets less stingy if you also Sign a top FA pitcher and a competent RF. Also, who are these three 10 million dollar players you keep speaking of that would get us over the top?

Lucas gets a pass for this start and should have leeway to pitch more realistically. That being said, we need to pump the brakes on him being a true Ace until he finishes the year. -

What? Hammels and Hendricks have pitched like aces this year and Lester usually does, but not as often as before. Darvish is a luxury for them right now. -

Nothing wrong with that. Still would have two outs to play with and our only legit shot at a run last inning. -

Yolmer gets a triple and then an auto out comes up. Tough break there. -

Well at least he struck out three in the first. It sucks he blew up against the Cubs and the Chicago media, but you can't be great every outing. We may luck into a rainout. -

Both of you have fitting names for the comment. -
The reason I want a stud player like Rendon and a stud pitcher is because we have a bunch of cheap salaries for 5 years to 7 years. We need to add in a few premium talents to put us in that title conversation every year. We will still have payrolls less than 150 million doing this. With this lineup you can afford to have a light hitting defensive right fielder. The top teams are going away from that professional lead off hitter. I understand tour point about 3 10 million dollar guys but we have 7 spots in our lineup that will be filled by a cheapish good young player. Fill one of the other two with a star and the last with a defensive RF and you have a great lineup. Then you have a rotation of Gio, Kopech, the guy you trade Magical for, Cease, and whoever wins the 5th spot. We have the money and resources to make this happen.
-
Well, I look at it as putting the most talent on the field. In the listed scenario, Magical would net us a pitcher who would be very valuable. There are plenty of professional hitters on the market with low OPS'. I'd take my chances with a star in Rendon, a stud pitcher, and batting Anderson or Robert leadoff for the time being. Losing Magical would suck, but we'd get over it with the influx of talent we'd get.
-
Yeah, we will have some great options at leadoff. No more quacks and wannabes.
-
The good news is, that when Magical, Robert, and FA right fielder get here, we won't have any glaring holes in our lineup.

I'm referring to big games. I dont think teams put guns to their heads but they may strongly urge them to play. Leaks come out about players being cleared by doctors, or in Durant's case, that teammates question his heart and desire to play. I don't think Durant would have played if his heart and toughness weren't questioned. In championship games I think truly injured players are nudged to play by their teams. That being said, you are right about concussions and the like during regular season contests especially with non stars. Congrats on the 30 year career, that is awesome. -

I doubt if they even pitch to Moncada with Cordell, Sanchez, and Out batting behind him. -

I often wonder if players aren't being forced by their teams to play. Millions of dollars are on the line and teams want to win. I can see Jordan willing himself to play because he was crazy in that way, but not many others would truly sacrifice their bodies willingly. -
There is only one pitcher that will cost big money and is elite and that is Cole. If Rendon wants to be here you take him and trade Madrigal in a package for a stud pitcher. Madrigal scares me because he lacks power right now and we have to hope he develops it.

I would think they'd call this early and say screw concession money if they didn't want to play it. Chicago weather has been odd and it may actually get through comfortably. -
Not really. We are top heavy but other teams have four guys in the top 100, but they are further back. I'd rather ours be up front. We have guys in that 110 to 175 range and that is okay after our graduations.
-
In this scenario Moncada moves back to 2B. He knows the position and has potential there. He will also become elite there allowing us to add an elite Rendon. I know it sucks for Yoan, but we are trying to when titles, so he'll need to suck it up.

The 2020 Rotation - What’s Your Plan?
SonofaRoache replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Signing Manny or Bryce wasn't about this year only. I have no problems with them making moves if they are for the long haul. -
I dont know why but I still believe in him. If he can just figure a few things out and be a good BP arm.

The 2020 Rotation - What’s Your Plan?
SonofaRoache replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My take is that our young core is special and will get more expensive as the years go by and with arb years. We are in position to sign a big time pitcher and a solid bat this offseason as well as fill other positional needs with good talent. The White Sox have broken down myths during this rebuild, but still have not paid a player more than 75 million. We had a chance to change this last year and did not, so why would it change now when salaries will go up this year? Middle to lower tier guys have not worked out for us and have cost a lot of money. I don't want to pay big money on guys to be average unless we get a big fish, in which case we can take chances on guys who've been given up on. We aren't the Yankees and can't spend freely, but acquiring someone like Cole shouldn't be a problem. -

I want to make one thing clear. You may not agree with what I say and that's fine, but name calling and attacking other posters is uncalled for. I see you were probably upset because I joked that the Cubs won the Eloy trade and the Sox will have to move to Portland after his DP. That's fine, but it was in jest and I said shortly thereafter that I felt bad for Eloy because I knew he wanted that Slam. I speak very highly of him and love the guy. You also seemed bent out of shape because I said Hahn doesn't intend to win this season, which is true. He and the org do not have intentions to win this season and have made it clear winning is not a priority. You and a few others need to stop name calling and trying to attack posters because of their opinions. My opinions are baseball related and I provide rationale for them. And before you claim all my posts are negative here are a few of my posts from yesterday. "I think we need to stop talking about Jose like he is Dunn or Alonso. He may not be a young great player, but he has plenty of value to give this organization on and off the field. You can do a lot worse than Jose Abreu at first or DH. " "That makes sense but Jose gave us a chance in our bad years, and deserves a shot to win a ring. I'd give him a three year deal and if he is playing bad, then so be it. Team chemistry and name recognition is still a thing that attracts talent. Especially when you lack national relevance like we do. " "Collins offense would be elite as a catcher and ordinary as a first baseman. Andrew Vaughn has that position on lock anyway. The good news is if McCann can remain a positive player for us, then we won't be devastated if Collins move around from catcher to first to DH. " "I see what you mean but it makes sense losing a bit for the betterment of our rebuild. I want to keep Colome because we could really use him next season. Winning is fun and we should actually try to learn how to win this year. Losing on purpose should be over and we should only trade players if we get knocked off our feet with the return. " -

Okay buddy. Anyone who has listened to Hahn talk since February knows his intent is not to win this year unless our young guys are playing amazing.
