  1. Come on man. KW said they weren't going to 300 million, so he knew the bid. No way an agent doesn't let the second team beat the offer to keep driving the price up.
  2. No use in using logic. He is in denial to cope, it is all good.
  3. Most of the markets that are our size or higher have high payrolls or don't need him. They also have players of his caliber on their rosters.
  4. Well let's see... The other teams didn't have money because their payrolls at are 160 to 200 million or close. Other teams didnt need a 3B.
  5. Insane offer? 10 years 300 million was the expectation. Coming in with 250 was weak, so in it as you like though. Do you.
  6. Jay William's was under contract getting paid millions. His contract was voided and JR took that money and gave it to him. Good gesture, yes, but not the end of the word. If I were a Billionaire with Jordan as my legacy I assure you I'd have no problem dishing out three million. Of course he gave out bonuses after the WS, he just won a title. Philly Eagles gave Nick Foles a million dollar bonus he didnt technically earn.
  7. We wouldn't have given him 8 years and 300 million. We are saying pay him 10 years and 300 million.
  8. Jay William's money was 3 million and he didnt have to pay his full contract, so he saved money anyway. How much did he lend to big Frank? Was it 35 million and another 35 million?
  9. You keep looking at this from Jerry's point of view. Manny isn't going to risk 70 million on the chance we haven't found a new 3B and DH. If he is an average player at 35 we would not pay him 35 million. No chance of that. Also you have to take on the risk to get the player. We need them, not the other way around.
  10. Like when he told Jordan he was gonna regret giving him that contract? He does look out for guys, but in the Sox case we are in new territory. 68 million is still our high mark. That's embarrassing to be honest.
  11. What if his play declines and we have another option at 3rd who is better at that point? These are things Manny and his agent look at. Guaranteed money in year 9 and 10 from the Padres beats our wishful thinking.
  12. What if he gets hurt at age 35? What if the Sox bring in a hot shot 3B to split time. The Sox wouldn't guarantee 300 million, so clearly they don't plan on him getting the last two years.
  13. No. No athlete is taking 250 million guaranteed over 300 million, even if it's just to say they got a 300 million deal.
  14. If that was the true offer though, they need to just assume Harper will meet the incentive criteria and offer him 10 and 320. Reports claim he is unsure about signing with the Phillies, so grab your nuts and play ball.
  15. Clearly not. If those were the terms then why not just give him 300 million over 10 years instead of a potential 320? I don't believe anything these guys say anymore. The incentives are probably more difficult than that.
  16. You're right, but at this point TA doesn't move any needles. Manny wasn't taking his spot anyway.
  17. I'm getting sick of hearing about how it was a great offer because of incentives. If JR didnt want to spend 300 million, those incentives were probably shit. Otherwise, they would have just guaranteed 300 million. Hahn and KW also did a shit job convincing their boss to spend an extra 5 million per year over 10 years to A. Energize and give hope to this fanbase, leading to more asses in seats and advertising dollars. B. Prove to your customers you truly want to win, and their hard earned money isn't going to waste. C. Giving your brand an elite talent that everyone nationally talks about. Playing games on national TV etc. Other top players wanting to sign, creating an avalanche of good vibes. D. You wouldn't have to deal with the backlash today. America wouldn't view you and your Org as cheap, incompetent, lousy, and not worth of a click or mention. All of this over 2 years and 50 million that could be traded with a prospect if you didnt want it anymore. The rebuild is still on, but the fact that they chased Manny means they know they need a talent like his. Thus, you have lost the fans trust and respect. We will be back when games are won at a higher than average rate, guaranteed.
  18. Sorry, I was typing on the phone and autocorrect happened. I edited the post to make more sense.
  19. Rick Hahn Sox fans will be happy when Machado hits a walk off in July and won't care that he signed in March. We want our relationship to be positive and gain the fans trust again. We've been planning for this free agency for a few years. Over the next few weeks we have several moves in mind.
  20. The Cubs played in three straight NLCS's and won a title over the last 4 years. Their one down year was with Bryant and Darvish being hurt all year, and they still tied for the division. They didn't need to have a great off season because they are there already.
  21. Exactly. This is why Kenny and Hahn saying they have the best number is true, but not the best deal. Example If someone offered you a job with these two options, which would you all take? A. 300k a year guaranteed for 10 years. B. 250k guaranteed for 8 years, but can get up to 325k if you meet bonuses you know are unlikely.
  22. Not if it is 250 million guaranteed. Get to 300, then swell.
  23. Even worse. Offering 100 million in incentives instead of 50 in guaranteed. I bet most of the incentives were likely unattainable. Like winning MVP, back to back WS MVPs. Hustling to first every at bat including strikeouts, etc.
  24. So Kenny and Hahn can't even get their lies straight. One is shocked and didn't see it coming, the other got the call. One says 300 million is too much, the other says there are no restrictions.
