  1. Most of that probably won't materialize. And going by KW's comments, they don't feel this class next year is worth it.
  2. Hahn said yesterday they want to be respectful and give Harper time to make his decision. This tells me Harper is waiting on other teams to see what they have to offer. We probably haven't made a formal offer and are waiting for other teams to submit their offers, then we'd try to top it.
  3. If we can nab Harper, I'd like to see a few stop gap arms added as well. It's really important we finish as close to .500 has possible next year. We need some positive vibes and mojo on 35th street.
  4. If we were the Cubs or Yankees I'd agree. This team needs Harper to be relevant. If things go well we can be one of the faces of baseball via Harper and have a chance at 2 championships. I'd pay him a huge amount up front and bite the bullet if need be, then 35 million going down the line. Trout is the best player in baseball but let's be real, the fans view Harper as the face of baseball and so do the networks. Most people don't even know what Trout looks like.
  5. So Jerry hasn't given them permission to negotiate a contract yet? Maybe this is why he thinks we will be outbid. He won't bid at all lol.
  6. He said what he has been saying since last season. If an opportunity presents itself to get big fish long term they will do it.
  7. He knows Boras. Boras held the Sox and Nats interest to the vest. No one expected us to be a leader or the Nats to still be involved.
  8. Bowden is someone I will trust because he does have real connections to Boras and was at the meetings, so he isn't some random. They all may be wrong to some degree, so I listen to what they say to see if it makes sense. Bowden does make sense saying we are a favorite until the Dodgers get money. I don't know about the Nationals part, if they tapped out at 300 million, would they be willing to meet the Sox at 400?
  9. We already know other teams need to raise their offers and make money work. I just think the Harper situation has a dollar amount max and there will be not much wiggle room. He will probably get between 10 and 400 million and 10 and 425 million. The main differences will be opt outs. The best thing the Sox can do to secure him is to pay him 50 million the first 2 years.
  10. Bowden is 100 percent right. We are the leaders right now ahead of the Phillies and Dodgers because we can offer a boatload of money and have a big city. Once the Dodgers get in position to offer a boatload of money, they will become the leaders.
  11. I don't think our FO should care if the deal is 35 mil a year or 45 a year. Front load the contract while payroll is low to take more of the hit. You'll have him here at least four years, and if you do well in that time frame, you figure out if you want to give jim another contract. I would be willing to offer 10 years and 450 million.
  12. It happens in the NBA a lot too. This never works out for the team on the other end, unless their goal is to hand over titles.
  13. Don't forget he may get lost with the Lebron hype machine. The Lakers can compete for championships next year if they sign another star. He may also get lost in the Trout and Hollywood love.
  14. Sox dead last. But fortunately for us, we finally did a rebuild and are going after top free agents, so we can show we really want to win now.
  15. This was always the case. A 10 year contract means you need to look long term. Teams he likes may look good now but have no help on the way. We protect him from our 100 loss season by offering an opt out.
  16. Hopefully Harper doesn't find out we suck at signing good free agents and developing players. Nah but this stuff is no shock. Every agent gives their big time free agent this type of info. The only players that don't get it, are one's pimping themselves out for a contract.
  17. I don't think it should be looked at like this. They have us beat on the field badly. The minors just show we can get there one day. Us beating other teams minors rosters means nothing, unless that team sucks at the mlb level like us.
