  1. To be honest I'd rather sign Dallas Keuchel and Brantley with Corbin's money. I think they need to add talent to this roster and give the young guys a taste of winning some games. I do not trust Corbin because he hasn't consistently been good, and that's not worth 100+ million.
  2. I doubt it. I think they see they have no shot at Harper or Machado.
  3. Yankees get Machado Phillies get Harper Sox get leftover scraps, but can say they tried to get the big fish. The Bulls have been doing this since Jordan left.
  4. I think everyone is misinterpreting the point here. They wouldn't put a gun to Hahn's head and tell him he better bring up Eloy. But if Harper doesn't want to lose 100 games, he may tell the Sox he wants the best team possible out there day 1. I'm also sure Hahn would use Eloy coming in April as a selling point to Harper. We also don't know that requests like this have not hapened, as we aren't in negotiations. It was rumored LeBron told teams he wanted his entourage to be on flights, part of Derrick Rose's agreement with addidas was having family and friends getting jobs. Stuff like this happens when you are a star and everyone wants you.
  5. Come on now, they aren't stupid. Any team they want to go to they will review the roster. I wouldn't doubt anything when dealing with Boras. You can give ultimatums when you are that coveted as if they are not met, you can bounce somewhere else. The Sox would be the one's left in the cold.
  6. When you are worth 350 million and tell an organization that you want to semi compete next year in order to sign, there are many implications that follow. If I were Harper or Machado, I'd have no problem telling the Sox to bring him up because I don't care about his service time. I'd have an opt out after 5 years and if the Sox aren't where I want them to be moving forward, I can leave. It may sound harsh, but I have other options to sign with, so I wouldn't sign with a team looking to lose 90 games year 1.
  7. What if the stars you want to sign this offseason say they want Eloy up at the start to sign? If I were either, I would definitely tell the Sox if you want me, you better have an outside chance at making the playoffs next year, or at least make an effort to have that shot. This may be why all of these reports are coming out about us trying to get much better quickly.
  8. Just because we aren't contending for a WS doesn't mean it's not beneficial for our young guys to not be complete losers. I don't want Moncada, TA, Eloy, etc coming close to another 100 loss season, maybe even another 90 loss season. They need to learn how to win as it will benefit them in the contention years moving forward.
  9. Lol okay. So you honestly think he would have gone from needing TJS immediately with arm damage, to a miraculous recovery and not needing it, if he came up in April of next year?
  10. By not being pressured, they mean it's such a no brainer he will just overpay without second thought. So no pressure will be necessary.
  11. Hw wouldn't have blown his arm out in AAA though. His season was over when we called him up and he would have came up in April of next year. This would have just postponed the two seasons of lost time for him. 2018, 2019, to 2019 and 2020. Unless you think he would have been in the minors past the first two weeks of April.
  12. I get that. But he would have gotten hurt in June of next year, and would have missed 2019 and 2020, two years of time. We need to get over this and just get ready to appreciate the 5 years we will have him.
  13. How? If he gets hurt next year he is still shelved and wasting a year. The only difference is if that year happened in contention or not.
  14. No excuses. I don't want to hear we made an attempt and that attempt isn't logical for our situation. Last year everyone here told me that the team that pays the most gets the player, so we shall see if that's true.
  15. That deal got turned down because it can get to 325 or 350 with an early opt out. The Sox need to be at the table with 360, 5th year opt out, and front loaded contract. Then you try to get a title or two in his 5 years.
  16. If his arm was in bad shape, it was going to happen eventually. If we sat him until next year, and he blew his arm out in June, he'd miss the 2019 and 2020 season. Missing the 2020 season means we lose a big time arm for our first contention year.
  17. I think if we sign Harper or Machado, a big if, they may tell Hahn they need Eloy up day 1. These guys may want to compete for a wildcard or division this year, or simply not be a 90 loss team in order to commit. Having Eloy down two weeks may hurt our record a bit. It's easy to say these guys shouldn't have expectations for 2019 but realistically they'd still want to have at least moderate level of success.
  18. I disagree as Kopech would have needed surgery anyway. Better to get it out the way now than in 2020 or 2021 when we can win the division.
  19. The difference will be we get legit young stars and not overrated washes up wanna be's. This would be in addition to the good young talent being brought up through our farm.
  20. Well with our lack of a true payroll, there is no reason why we can't front load the hell out of a contract and offer more money overall. We need a really good hitter and a good veteran pitcher. They need to go all in, as it will not hurt them financially while players are available.
  21. Great point DA. That's why I think they will go after Harper first. You're going to get a very good player and all of the fame and notoriety that comes with it. Machado may be the better player, but he will not bring that. Harper will also attract more FAs as well.
  22. I don't understand your end game on this one. No one said he shouldn't have signed Belle. I don't give a rat's ass either way. I'm just saying using a controversial signing with Belle, and re-signing Michael Jordan aren't the best arguments for him spending 350 million on Machado. I think he will spend big, but I also see why other people are skeptical about that type of deal.
  23. That was a quick article from his point of view. I'm not pulling up other articles as anyone can do that as they see fit. He says he outbid another team, other teams and speculators said he didn't. The purpose of me posting the article was to show that there was controversy about the signing, and if JR had to explain why he signed Belle to that contract, then the point I'm making is valid.
  24. Here is an article giving some details. JR said another team was for sure gonna bid high, but most don't believe him. https://www.si.com/vault/1996/12/02/8109578/double-play-when-he-signed-albert-belle-jerry-reinsdorf-broke-the-bankand-maybe-the-labor-impasse
