QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:28 PM) If they aren't going to be able to handle that, they have a lot bigger problems. It's not uncommon for young players to go through those stages. I just prefer that they don't have to worry about blown leads and overcompensating.
-
The last thing we need is for our our future pitchers to get demoralized because our bullpen can't hold a lead.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 07:32 PM) Well, the main point tonight is Lopez pitched well...or we're no longer satisfied with moral victories? Nope. That's fine, but we need these guys to learn how to win and learn how to run the bases etc.

QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 11:25 AM) Remember when the Sox started the 2016 season at 19-8? The ended the season 78-84. Didn't we start 23-10 and were a blown lead away from 24-10? I remember that was the game that crashed our ship immediately.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 08:52 PM) I'm rewatching the game and I know some will hate this but man Jason is bad at actually calling the game. On that first Davidson HR, Jason had absolutely zero idea it was crushed. He was a good 2-3 seconds behind the camera. Now, 80+ year old Hawk isn't calling that off the bat, but 60 year old Hawk certainly is -- and more broadly -- so are most play by play guys. That ball was f***ing smoked. If you are at the game that's a no doubter -- call it as such, get the excitement. anyways, I hope he learns more about baseball as he gets more experience. I will say on a positive note he wasn't in constant "ask stone a question with an obvious answer" mode. It was a rope and Abreu's barely got over the wall a few pitches prior. He did a good job seeing the other home runs, especially Tim's.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 09:49 PM) Yolmer is still only 25 himself they got some kids that can play, and Jose ain't no bum either. Exciting infield this year. Abreu needs to be here at least another 4 seasons. Let everyone else force our hands with good play. If we want to win long term our payroll will have to get to 170 million. We are at 70 now so we should have no problem making that work down the life if we are competitive every year.

Should the Sox attempt to extend some of their talent?
SonofaRoache replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 08:14 PM) In case you missed it, Anderson signed a long-term deal for around $25 million...so you're stuck with him. Under terms of the deal announced on Tuesday, the 23-year-old Anderson will receive $850,000 this season, $1 million in 2018, $1.4 million in 2019, $4 million in 2020, $7.25 million in 2021 and $9.5 million in 2022. The White Sox hold club options for 2023 at $12.5 million and 2024 at $14 million. If either option is declined, Anderson receives a $1 million buyout. dailyherald.com Our window as I said is 5 years, which would end in 2023. We hold club options for Tim that very year and he could be off our books if he hasn't earned the contract. -

SonofaRoache replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We have our young guys locked in for 5 or 6 years at non crazy salaries, even with ARB. That will be it for our window as we'll have to replace a few with young guys we draft etc. The good news is we'll have Abreu, Garcia, Shields, and Anderson's contracts off the books. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 05:52 PM) Most cable systems have a free preview somewhere.. Usually it lasts for a week now, and a week after the All Star break. I have Direct tv and the games are listed staring on channel 721. Ohtani got blown away . I don't know what to think of him. He looked lost in ST and may need to be in the minors for a little bit.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 05:41 PM) Is Minaya hurt? Just got pulled mid inning He hurt the ground with all his throws in the dirt.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 05:12 PM) He did nothing wrong He tried to move his hand into the glove while in the air. Then made a s***ty throw to first.
-
Yoan let's not do that when the games matter next year.
-
If this team wants to win games next season, they need to ditch losers like Shields. We don't need to build a losing culture and it's critical for us to take a step up this season.
-
Who are the folks overhyping those three? Carson and Tim have been labeled near busts at this point and no one knows who Rodon is.
-
I have no problem if our front office wants to sign guys to short deals to make this season enjoyable. We are done tanking for the draft and need to start winning our share of ball games. If he has another really good year then we can look into him sticking around longer term.

Micker Adolfo out at least six weeks.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 09:26 PM) this is the beauty of having a deep system. And it's not like he's a prized middle infield or catching prospect. Toolsy OF are a dime a dozen compared to IF prospects in the Sox org. It's a blow, but it's not a bad one. I'm just knocking on wood (literally, right now) that the more critical pieces to the rebuild enjoy good health this spring and year. We already are dealing with a pretty bad setback with Rodon imo. edit: we have "SonofaRoache" and "GoodAsGould" both in this thread right now. Awesome. I agree completely, but his hype train was starting to roll big time. I am happy that we are deep and are in position to overcome busts. I think we also need to proceed as if Rodon doesn't exist, he will either be hurt or his agent will be too much for us. -

I feel bad for him, but he is always hurt. We need to move forward as if he wont make it to the big leagues. -
QUOTE (JPR @ Feb 10, 2018 -> 06:43 PM) Couple means 2, there is absolutely nothing but a minimal chance the Cubs win it. They have holes in the pen still. The playoffs, and 2005, prove that pitching wins and I'm not seeing any Mark Buehrle's on the Cubs' staff. They're not catching lightning in a bottle, again, anytime soon. In my opinion, if the Cubs don't win the NL crown this season then stick a fork in them. They'll just continue to score 10 runs a game while giving up 11. Losing Wade Davis has more impact on that squad than gaining a 33 year old SP. Davis is lights out as a closer while Darvish could not even succeed as a #3 starting pitcher in LA. It sucks that the Cubs are a great team but you are blinded by hate. They've to to 3 stright NLCS's and will go back again this year.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 04:23 PM) A bunch of it is no matter how bad the Sox are this season, the Royals and Tigers will probably be much worse. They could have an inflated record and a false sense of how close they really are going into 2019 due to the awfulness that will be the Tigers and Royals. Hahn has to look at performance vs the big boys in the AL in order to gauge that, rather than division placement or even how many wins they have. They're going to play the Tigers and Royals 36 times, and winning 20 of those is probably a conservative estimate. I'm pretty sure Rick Hahn understands beating solid teams is more indicative of being a good team than just racking up wins on the bad. Although teams with great records have them because they can beat up on the bad.

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) Absolutely. The sox should look but the price will probably be too high right now. A team closer to winning will outbid them. His price will be high for the next 3 years. Even with 2 years of control, if he is still a great player the bidding war will be intense. -
White Sox have shown interest in Machado

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) The White Sox are going to go into next season sitting there with a team payroll of We have the money, we don't have the ready made team. That's why I said they have the money and ready made teams. Our team is in rebuild and next year we could have potential but we wont know until 2019 where we truly stand. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) If that's the case, despite what you may think, they would have been left holding the bag if they traded for him. They can sell him on the same crap you think gave him a 75% chance of staying if they traded for him when they meet with him next November. You can't sell someone on an experience they never had. They wanted him to form bonds with players, staff, and management while he was here, so that if money were equal he may say "these guys are gonna be good, are paying me, and I like the clubhouse." They can't give him that experience trying to just sign him. All he can do is say they are paying like the Yankees, but they aren't like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Dodgers. We don't have a chance to make an impression on him. I think he's like Abreu, Castillo, Moncada, and even Renteria. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) I'm not suggesting we sign him, but I'm not sure how you can say that ship has sailed when Machado is a year away from free agency? Any team that wants to offer the most money will get him pretty much. I do not know if that should be us. The problem is Hahn didn't think he could sign him in FA, hence trying to woo him first. The Sox will not overpay for him because the Big Boys are gearing up for FA and will bid to the moon. I think 5 or 6 teams will offer him almost the same contract. The Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox will ultimately win his services as they have the money and ready made teams. -

QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) For all the rumors of them not thinking they’d have a good shot at landing MM in FA without having him here. The best way to sell him on this team is to have Eloy and Kopech make the majors this year and Moncada, Giolito and Lopez show they are going to be mainstays. We're not signing Machado in FA, that ship has sailed. We need to pray our guys live up to all the hype quickly and we can convince a second tier type to come here to be the icing on the cake.
