Reinsdorf Needed Convincing to Trade with Cubs
SonofaRoache replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) Again, to some people and from what overhear seems to be the type of fan who couldn't name more than 3 players on their team. I couldn't care less and don't know many people who are super passionate about it any more. Sox always come first but lets be honest, what would happen if the Cubs weren't here. We'd have more money to spend than any other team, we'd have sell outs every game, and 100 percent of Chicago baseball fans would cheer for us instead of only 40 percent. So we are competing for fans, resources, money, attention, advertising, etc. That creates a rivalry just like teams we compete for playoff berths does. Maybe not the same rivalry, but one nonetheless. Even on this passionate board we were rooting for losses all season long, except the last two days were it was clear we wanted to win. I was at Wrigley on Monday and Sox fans were more excited about that game than any of the games I went to at GR. -
Reinsdorf Needed Convincing to Trade with Cubs

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Again I'm probably giving too much credit, but "who cares" would be my response. The dumb fake rivalry with the Cubs ended on 10/26/2005 for me because it didn't matter any more, the only reason it should have ever mattered is that both teams were garbage for 80+ years and the only thing the fans had was the 2 teams playing each other. And it should be even more dead after 2016. If the Cubs have the best offer you take that offer, I don't care if it helps them win. I'd care more if we traded to Cleveland and they spent the next 5 years beating the Sox. The dumb fake rivalry? Living in denial is never a good thing. There is ALWAYS a rivalry between teams in the same city and teams in close proximity of one another. Cubs fans hate the Sox and Sox fans hate the Cubs, the quicker people with your view accept this, the quicker you guys can move on. -

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) You know what our team is doing. They know, too. Yeah but again it means nothing until the rebuild succeeds. In 2005 we didn't care about the Cubs rebuilding nor in their dark years from 2011 to 2014.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) The worst part of this series, when we lose to the Cubs, is the s*** talking from their fans. But really, what half-serious fan is going to talk s*** about beating a team that is openly and unabashedly tanking? Sure, I hope these are some good, exciting games but if we get swept, who cares? Big picture it does nothing but help our case. Fans from other teams don't care if you are tanking on purpose. They just know that your team sucks and their team does not.

We turned the Cubs season around by giving them Q, and I think we are gonna turn their bats around for good with our garbage pitching.

I'm having a tough day at work. Today is apparently Cubs day and everyone is decked out in WS gear. This lady I've been trying to depants asked me how the Sox are doing. When I told her she gave me a hug. 2020 can't come quick enough.

The Cubs need to lose 3 of their next 4.
-
I want 2 wins against the Cubs. Tank is on hold this next series.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) Yeah, should be interesting. I hope they pull a 2015 White Sox move and go on a nice little win streak as the deadline approaches to fool their FO into thinking they are contenders. Buy buy buy!!! Teams in the NL Central are getting hot and the Brewers cold. So they are all bunched up and hoping to win the division. Time to start a bidding war amongst those teams.
-
As dreadful as this season is that draft pick better be a Harper, Stanton, Bryant type bat with top tier defense.
-
Moncada will bunt for a homerun like RBI Baseball '94

Mark Lowe and Machi Traded to The White Sox

6.23 ERA? 1.77 WHIP? 37/20 K to BB ratio? -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) I don't think we're going to pass up on talent at any position. Rick has just been accumulating the best talent he can. It factors into the players we bring in. The top guys will more likely fill needs in trades. I don't think Rick was looking to acquire shortstops because of Tim. We may bring in secondary guys but nothing with high potential.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) The Sox are rebuilding and TA is only 24 playing a premium position. What's to worry about? Let's see what TA does over the next 2-3 years while the Sox are developing their young minor league talent. This is true but I don't want to pass up talent at that position because we have Anderson like organizations do. Anderson hasn't proved his worth yet so we should probably be cautious about giving him an unchallenged role.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) Let's be clear: regardless of what you think of who is different than who, you have to recognize that the regime that is making moves right now is NOT the same regime that went for it every year. We simplify it by saying "Williams vs Hahn" but what we're really saying is the "Williams FO" vs the "Hahn FO". This is clearly a different, Rick driven, regime. I think they got tired of failing and decided to change also. But your point is valid, although the new guys haven't proven to be successful at bringing in guys who succeed in the league just yet. We have new instructors and systems in place, but the jury is still out if it will actually work. I'm not a fan of rebuilds unless you absolutely have to do it but these guys did an outstanding job getting prospects in the farm.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Dan Hayes was just sticking up for him on Twitter in regards to his off the field experiences and people wanting to send him down to Charlotte...he seems to think the only real way for TA to get back to his old self is to get through this season. Hopefully with the offseason to go reflect on things, he will come back better focused next season. I'm not even all that considered with his hitting at this point. He needs to shore up the defense big time and gain a little more patience at the plate. If he's not gonna walk, he will need to hit .290 AND steal bases like he did last year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Avi is on the way out because....he's 26? He is unlikely to go anywhere until he has another repeat season like this, in which case there would be equal arguments for an extension as for trading him with 1 1/3rd remaining years of control (same time next year). My point was Avi was on his way out the door prior to having this season, the same boat Tim will find himself in if he doesn't turn it around next year. And no, Avi would not have gotten an extension without this season, and he still may not.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) You'll find most (not all) of the users who have names or avatars referencing Jake LaRoche are trolls. I'm assuming they're Cubs fans because there was really nothing funny about the place the White Sox were in when the LaRoche thing went down. They know it infuriates a lot of us. Jesus christ man lighten the heck up. Everyone was making fun of that situation which is why I picked my name.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) I've been following the boards for a while and I must say this is about the most stupid, ignorant statement I've ever seen on these boards. When did Sox fans turn into Cubs fans? Hopefully at our next home game they can hand out sarcasm detectors and a sense of humor to the first 10,000 fans.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Well, yeah, and because he's a very talented player. They aren't going to sign a 34 year old to be the SS for a rebuilding club. Well he hasn't proven the talented enough part yet. If he were a few years older he'd be on his way out like Avi. He is the short stop version of Avi.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Tim Anderson just turned 24 years old. He's as much apart of this rebuild as anyone currently in the minor leagues. By age only.
-
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Where would Anderson rank in this list of prospects? Like 6? He definitely doesn't project out better than Moncada, Jimenez. Tim Anderson post draft or Anderson right now? Post draft he'd be 9th or 10th.

I've upgraded my score to an 9 thus far. I was skeptical about these trades getting done so quickly and brilliantly but Hahn did an excellent job. My only downside is I don't see Rutherford being any worth noting, hopefully he turns it on for good moving forward and avoids being Beckham 2.0. I'll give the rebuild a full 10 for its start once Carson Fulmer and Zach Collins are out of the top 10, as that would mean we are next level loaded.
