Cease is Carlos Boozer. He is a bum slayer. Looks great against the Tigers, Orioles, Pirates, Royals, Dbacks, etc. Can not be trusted against playoff caliber competition to be consistent. Give him a few years and he may take a huge step like Gio did. But not right now.

Cease needs to pitch 7 no matter. I'm tired of him having fraudulent ERA's looking elite to the casual fan.

Yep. You want to be smart, but you can't assume you will have this record and chance next year. Look at the Twins and look at the injuries we have. If it makes sense then you do it. For all we know the Twins can bounce back and the Tigers/Tribe can acquire a few offensive pieces to make life difficult for us next year.

I'm not saying we won't be ahead or in the race, just that Cleveland will keep some pressure on us. Some here were expecting Cleveland to be 10 back by the end of the month. They aren't that bad.

After Pitt this weekend the Tribe will have 16 consecutive challenging games. I think the Twins will get Buxton and a few others back. I expect to be up 2.5 after this weekend, which is possible if we split with Houston.

No it is because we have elite starting pitching. If our pitching was above average, we'd be tied with Cleveland at least. If we have a lot of Mendicks wouldn't that mean we are capable of finding more if we traded him? Hell, Mendick won't be on the roster when we get guys back.

Whoa calm down there. Danny mendick is solid but he is a backup at best on this team. The Sox need to continue drafting solid players and signing Latin players. That will extend the window, not trading Danny Mendick for a better player.

He's evolution won't be too different from Sale's. You have to give him a chance to start before you turn him into Andrew Miller, Chapman, or Hendricks.

It is. We are buyers in years where we are mired in mediocrity. No way they let this chance go by without adding. They don't need any stars, they just need a few guys to carry weight. A second baseman and a real solid bullpen arm would do the trick.
