Falk Palka. For the love of God, bring up Robert and DFA Alonso.

Collins looked like Chris Darling in goal. Big and slow.

Pinch hit for Collins

Unless and until Luis Robert is brought up to take over CF, RF seems to be a moot point or at least, a secondary issue. Those who would rather insist that Robert isn't ready until 2020, and instead choose to blend in a 34 year old CF (Jay) and trade young prospects for a veteran RF may be on a different wavelength than the Sox rebuild is on.

Disco Demolition was a fearful response to the growing popularity of artist who were either black, hispanic, gay or female. That is proof positive that you don't know what you are talking about and I am not trying to be mean. We all loved Motown and artists and groups from the 1960's that were African American or multi-racial. Some of us originally thought that perhaps members of Steam were black.

I was there (for real) upper tank Left Field until they called the second game. Some of the attempts at historical revisionism are really absurd. Kids like me were raised on the rock and roll from the late 60's / early 70's and enjoyed listening to the great albums from that day AND the FM radio stations that played them, like .WDAI, WGLD, etc.. We were not into disco music, disco dancing or dressing like John Travolta did in Saturday Night Fever. Wayyyy too much has been made of the event, which tore up some sod and forfeited one game for our crappy team. I recall smoking a joint on the cat walk that went behind the scoreboard and then watching a few idiots throw 33 rpm vinyl albums from the second deck. That was one of the dumber moves....but large groups of young teenagers often get emboldened to misbehave. The hooliganism that lasted about an hour was nothing compared to the weapons related violence and murders that takes place every day now in Chicago and other major cities. The only people that had guns at Disco Demolition night were the Police. Nobody got shot, no teenagers and no Police. Maybe there is a lesson in there for some people but I doubt it. And the Cubs also sucked badly in those days and had sparse attendance at Wrigley. Santo was traded to the Sox and Kessinger played for and managed the White Sox. A few years earlier, Jack Brickhouse was the announcer for both the Sox and the Cubs on WGN TV.

I so agree Kyyle, especially since defensive shifts are countering many LH pull hitters. Leury is a decent LH platoon in CF or in RF for now. Sox need pitching, pitching and more pitching. That has to be the focus.

This is a pretty uninviting fan forum that I plan on visiting far less than I have in the past, and yes, I know I won't be missed. There is just too much one-upmanship and juvenile taunting that leaves many true Sox fans wondering what is really behind it.

typo and Ill change that to clarify. Thanks bud.

"I I'm not a big Andrew Vaughn fan, but you're making me one. Vaughn is 5'11, not 5'5. He's also been graded as a solid defender... 'm not trying to hound you from thread to thread, but your analysis boils down to "I don't like Vaughn. I like Abrams. Let me provide no truly substantive reasoning as to why." I have a basis for my opinions and a right to express them on this fan forum. FYI, I have done what most fans interested in this Draft have done, namely I have searched for and read everything I can find on the players I think will be available at no. 3, including Vaughn and CJ Abrams. I have also watched numerous video highlights from their careers which I understand are just that - highlights., and looked over their available stats. This is something that was not as easy to do with a prep player like Abrams, but there is still a lot to be found on line about him. I have also looked at fan forum sites for the Orioles, Marlins and Tigers on their Draft topics just to see what their fans' opinions are on these players. There are substantive reasons why the WS might not choose Vaughn over another a top player at another position. As others have pointed out, the Sox already have major league talent and numerous prospects that fit into the 1B/DH role. The fact is that 1B/DH is essentially a one tool position which is easier to fill than positions requiring more speed, athleticism, flexibility and a healthy, trim physique. I considered the potential upside of these players. Vaughn developed power after lifting weights (according to his own account) and gaining bulk. I am not sure how much more he can add to his frame and wonder, at what point added bulk (from age or weight lifting) begins to slow his swing and speed on the bases. I looked for some example of a 6 ft. tall first basemen selected that high in the Draft that ended up being a star in the majors, and could not come up many examples. ...at least not in recent years. I even looked at Paul Konerko's rookie card . Even as a catcher, he was taller and far less bulky, or leg heavy (as Lillian pointed out) than Vaughn. Of course there have been guys who had a big azz and could hit like the Bull, Greg Luzinski, but they are always a liability on the bases and now, with the increased use of defensive shifts, their averages would have dropped., I am not going to defend Derek Jeter, but I do respect his opinion about a young shortstop's talent. My own opinion about CJ Abram is based on his athleticism, speed and that LH swing, and more than anything, scout evaluations. IMO, which is not an isolated one, CJ has tremendous upside potential. I just don't see that with Vaughn. He might end up being a guy who already maximized his talent , perhaps like another guy from Vandy we Drafted a few years ago. And just to add, I expect that the White Sox will take Vaughn. I did not like most of the Draft selections they have made in recent years and I don't expect this year to be any different. Collins, Fulmer, Burgur...
-
I read that Derek Jeter really likes CJ Abrams and hopes that he is available at #4. i'd take Abrams over the short, stout Vaughn who looks to be a single tool player.
-
There is that but it is very possible that the Sox have already ranked Rutcshman, Witt and CJ Abrams as 1-3 and will take whichever one is available. Vaughn has packed on too much weight for his height and age. If that continues, it could slow him down in every aspect of his game. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/andrew-vaughns-special-bat-puts-him-in-rare-air/
-
Anyone who looks at the available videos and scouting reports of these prospects and then compares CJ Abrams to Micah Johnson must still agree with Hawk that Micah is a "game changer." Not even close...
-
I looked at all available videos of the players I could find and every read scouting report I could find. I felt that was enough to express my opinion here as a fan. Do you have some added qualifications?
-
I was admonished for posting something about the Draft that was not in an existing thread about the Draft. That thread not on my first page but you may want to look for it.
-
My thoughts on possible comparisons and outcomes: Andrew Vaughn = Jake Burgur ....or Zack Collins CJ Abrams = Tatis Jr. It's all about talent evaluation. In a few years, we will see who is right.
-
Most mock Draft boards have the Sox picking Andrew Vaughn at #3. I look at his videos and physically, he looks stocky and slow for a player his age, something like Jake Burgur. He doesn't have the athleticism to play anywhere but 1B or maybe just DH. Right now Rutschman is the consensus No.1 pick. No chance we will get him. I think Bobby Witt Jr. or C.J. Abrams will go at no. 2. My hope is that the White Sox/ Hostetler/ Kenny Williams, don't out-think themselves and take either Witt or Abrams, whichever one is still available at no. 3.

Big Bad Bobby Jenks wins $5.1 million settlement

I hope Bobby is no longer in pain and look forward to seeing him at another Sox Fest. -
We have a decent catcher that can hit, a potential star at ss and another at 3B. We have 2 or 3 solid starters, a setup guy and a Closer. We have flexibility with payroll. As Elwood said in the Blues Brothers: " There's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses." I am as unsure about which direction this team is heading as the Blues Brothers were.

Latest deck shuffling: Jones to 60 day IL; Burr reinstated; Tilson Up
tray replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Perhaps if Luis Roberts continues to hit over .400, with monster4 home runs, a few more 3 and 4 hit games with multiple extra base hits, he will be deemed "ready." Meanwhile, we have had to watch umpteen sorry at-bats from Palka. Engel and now Tilson. Oh, they are ready alright..... for then sh1tcan. Anyway, we already have Cordell and Leury Garcia and Delmonico so what is the point of adding another AAA back-up outfielder ? Shuffling the deck.....on the Titaniic. -
When Eloy returns; Eloy Jiminez - LF Luis Robert - CF Ryan Cordell - RF Yoan Moncada - 3B Tim Anderson- SS Leury Garcia - 2B Jose Abreu - 1B Alonso - DH James McCann - C -------- There aren't many holes in that line-up. I also think Eloy will get in a little bit better shape and improve in the outfield. Remember that eye-popping catch he made in the Futures game?

The Rick Hahn Haters thread, sponsored by Balta1701 and Jack Parkman
tray replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Pitching shortcomings got magnified against a hot hitting Boston line-up. Hopefully things will eventually settle down a bit in our rotation and bullpen. Unfortunately we go to Cleveland next and they will have no mercy. Steve Stone tried to assuage fans that things will get better. Hang in there men. -
Luis Roberts last two games at Birmingham: 4 for 5 with a double. and today 3 doubles in one game. This after Robert was dominant at single A absolutely pulverizing the baseball. Bring him up and don't worry about the doubters and cynics. Hopefully, Eloy's ankle sprain heals enough so that he can at least DH pretty soon.
-
Any chance Luis Robert replaces Engel ? We do need someone who can hit the baseball.
