  1. So using that logic, would you want to see Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal come up to the major league club in the next few weeks?
  2. Jerry wants to win, but that doesn't mean that he wants to throw hundreds of millions for free agents who may or may not prove to be worth it. Save the money and spend it as needed. That is what a successful business does.
  3. I'm not sure what the reason or the motivation is/was for criticizing Reinsdorf and the WS for the stadium deal. Are people suggesting that a private company , even one that receives taxpayer subsidies, should then share profits with the government? Or that the White Sox should spend every bit of profitability on multi-million dollar player contracts? Or maybe, is it sour grapes that the WS weren't forced to stay in the Old Comiskey, lose money until Bankrupt, and then move to St. Pete? Looking at the tax incentive game one has to be consistent with their own political and ideological views. Consider what  it would have cost NY taxpayers to get Amazon over  there - $3.4 BILLION. And consider what proponents and opponents of that plan said, for example, Amazon would bring jobs vs the cost of infrastructure and loss of tax revenue. More on point, perhaps consider how George W, Bush scored big with taxpayers in a similar deal using the threat to move the Rangers as leverage. How George W Bush and the Arlington Stadium and Land deals This made millions for W and helped him in his future career endeavors.. At the end of the day, I wonder what the criticism of Reinsdorf concerning the Stadium deal is really all about. Is it about wanting the Sox become less profitable and then perhaps to be unable to continue having our team in Chicago? Is it ideologically based...a concern about taxpayer funding private corporations through tax incentives (and if so, were you of that same mindset on the proposed Amazon deal in Long Island) ? Or are you just a frustrated Sox fan who wants Reinsdorf and the WS organization to pump millions into player contracts whenever it is arguable that it would advance the teams chances to win a few games?
  4. Reynaldo will be fine. I like his competitiveness and his "stuff." Today he had a tough go on a cold day against a team that was on a huge hitting streak and power surge with umpteen homers in their first 8 games. Our starting pitching may actually be better than expected. The bullpen...that's another story but that is a work in progress. I wish we could see our line-up this season with Luis Robert and Madrigal instead of Engel and Yolmer. I can't frikkin' wait.
  5. Opening Day weather has been brutal for the last few years. The Snowpener and the Opening Day rain-out where they let us buy concessions and beer for hours before calling the game. After those two experiences I decided that in future years I would wait until warmer weather before going to games.
  6. Sanchez with another key error on a line drive and a feeble fly out in our last at bat. I'm done with that clown. A very disheartening loss at the beginning of the season. Yea, go get 'em tomorrow as Benneti said, you know, when the Sox are off.
  7. Yolmer should cut down on the clown routine and stay focused more. If not, we gotta guy to spell him - Mad dog Madrigal.
  8. Nice video clip. Physically, Luis Robert does not look like a rookie. How much more does this guy need to "develop" before he is "ready" to play at the major league level? He has proven that he can hit fast balls and curve balls abd that he has tremendous power. He is as fast as lightening. How much time should be wasted knowing that the prime career years for most major league players are over by the time they hit thirty. ?
  9. If Luis Robert can protect the same thumb from being injured for the fourth time, he will be able to showcase his true talent as a hitter. I
  10. Palka cannot be your regular starting RFer. I would start Leury in RF and Jay in CF. Not ideal, but adequate place holders for Luis Robert, Basabe, etc. Palka should learn how to play 1B in order to increase his trade value. Maybe the best place for him to do that is in Charlotte.
  11. How is 2b Mocada's "natural position" when he led the league in errors there last season ? We don't yet know what Madrigal's true upside is in terms of hitting for power, but you never know, he could hit like another short guy named Yogi Berra.
  12. I was trying to think of a short major league player that Madrigal reminds me of in order to get some idea what his potential as a hitter might be, including his potential to hit for power. I could not think of any current or former mlb player that had/has his short/wide body and looked like Madrigal swinging the bat. Pedroia and Altuve just look a lot different and have different swings. Long story short, I was looking at some YouTube videos of Yogi Berra . I know I know,, Yogi was a catcher and a left hand hitter but in a couple of ways Madrigal reminded me of Yogi - a short, wide, powerful body, strong hands and an effortless swing. Yogi had tremendous core strength and powerful wrists and hands. I'm not saying Madrigal will be a hall of famer, but I am saying that I do not doubt Madrigal's potential to hit for power. Yogi Berra hits 2 home runs in World series
  13. Vaughn's one hit tool is not what the White Sox need with Eloy, Adolph and Burgur in the wings. Remember "Tank for Beer"?
  14. Vaughn is a short stout player who can box out further with age and become a tank. The Sox already drafted Burgur who is in the same category. In addition, the WS have several 1B/DH prospects (Burgur , the Micker, possibly Eloy if when he no longer has enough wheels for the OF). Not sure who the best available player will be at #3 in a Draft where only the first two slots are consensus picks. And contrary to the Title of the article, I think the Sox wish they had #1 or #2 rather than #3,
  15. Rutschman will be gone by the time the Sox pick at #3. The second highest rated catcher is Shea Langeliers. In his youtube videos he looks like a Josh Phegley, at best. The Sox do not need a 1B/DH at all so I think they should pass on Vaughn. Given that, there is no clear choice at the #3 slot. I might pick C.J. Abrams.
  16. Eloy can hit the baseball. I'm all for signing him now, just like the Sox gambled when they signed Abreu for 68Mil. Lock him up, lock him up, lock him up. Then start print Eloy jerseys, sell some tickets, and promote our future Star. Get the party started.
  17. Once again, post a link with a report that even suggests that Lozano came beck to the White Sox and asked them to match SD's offer. If he did, why were KW and Hahn so surprised when that deal got done under their noses?
  18. Lozano used the Sox to leverage a deal to get Machado and his wife to the town they both wanted to live in. Hahn got played,, but given all the pressure from fans, I can't blame him for trying. It is what it is.
  19. This is how I understand the final negotiations went: " The White Sox made their last, best offer on Monday night: a 10-year deal worth $250 million guaranteed, plus incentives. If Machado hit all the escalators, he could max out at $350 million. A few hours earlier, the Padres had submitted theirs: $300 million, 10 years, opt-out after five. Fowler tried to sleep but couldn’t. He called Preller around 11:30 p.m. “Where are we?” he asked. Preller said there hadn’t been an update in a while. Maybe he was leaning the other way. Fowler told him to re-engage Lozano. :" Lozano accepted that offer which only guaranteed 5 years at $150. Was that deal offered to the White Sox? I don't think it was. and then this from Machado's mouth: " "I'm truly blessed to be here. I'm truly blessed to be a part of this organization," Machado said. "Since day one, since we met you, we knew it was the right fit for me and my wife to be here. We're very excited to be here and start this new journey of our baseball career, our lives -- to take on that San Diego weather and take on this team."
  20. How about a link that proves that Lozano came back to the Sox and offered them to match SD's Offer ? I'm asking because I never saw that reported anywhere.
  21. I wish fans would stop blaming JR/KW/RH for not signing Machado. The dude wanted to play in SD. plain and simple. There are no reports that I am aware of that suggest that Lozano came back to the Sox, asked them to match SD's Offer, and JR refused. Eloy can hit. If he plays 1st base or even is a DH, I want to see him signed long term. Get 'er did.
  22. Ernie Banks played shortstop. Babe Ruth Pitched. Extreme examples but you get my point.
  23. I look at the Offer for Jose Abreu, an unproven Cuban player as being somewhat analagous. I give JR / KW / RH credit for the Abreu deal. He has been a bright spot on this team since he was signed. I know, I know, this is not exactly the same situation. Consider though that while Eloy has not played in an official MLB game, he has faced MLB pitchers. Also the Sox have watched him closely since he was traded to us from the wrong side of towners This would be a ballzy roll of the dice even by Vegas standards. Using the Vegas analogy, maybe double down if this looks like it worked. So, assuming Robert rakes in the minors, comes up and rakes in the majors, and the thumb is no longer an issue, perhaps a long term Offer could be made to him at some point. This could be a legitimate, albeit risky way to build a solid core for a rebuild . You risk a lot of money by signing the best young prospects/players to long term deals knowing they may never live up to their billing. On the positive side, if it works, you have a core of young players signed to long term deals, and as a result, you have a much better idea what the roster and the budget will look like moving forward.
