  1. Every trade possibility for Quintana must be vetted by Soxtalk !
  2. IMO, Quintana, one of the best left handed starters in baseball, plus Frazier, who could easily hit 40+ home runs and play a solid 3rd base, as a package, are more valuable than Bregman. If the Astros are going for it i 2017, they may well consider that, even though they have been dead set against trading Bregman. Just stating that they will never trade him is not going to diminish what Hahn wants for Q and the Toddfather. 4 years of control for one of the most durable, consistent, and competitive starters in the league. Quintana also is a guy who just goes about his business without mouthing off. He's an ideal 1 or 2 pitcher for many teams as he has been with the White Sox. On the other side of the coin, I doubt Hahn will trade Q, even without another player included, unless he gets back an elite position player/ prospect like Robles, Bregman, etc.
  3. I haven't heard much about Tilson's recovery, so I am hoping that this is news indicates that the Sox feel that he will be ready for the start of the season.
  4. The cubs made crazy favorable trades to get Addison Russell and Jake Arrieta. They made much better Draft picks and got lucky that Bryant was there when they had a top pick. They basically stole Rizzo. There is no guarantee that this rebuilding plan will do anything but make the Sox stink for several years and come back somewhere near the middle of the pack. Trading Frazier, Robertson and Melky probably isn't going to net any players that will elevate the Sox to top contenders for a WS. Similarly, teams are not offering players that could be game changers in exchange for Quintana. So this rebuilding plan has a lot of pitfalls. It might be better to moderate the rebuild or half azz it as some say, in order to stay reasonable competitive. There is no guarantee that teh Sox get a top 3 pick in the Draft no matter how bad they are because there are several teams that are probably worse. And, as we have see, even when the Sox have a top 10 pick, they don't a;ways make the right decision.
  5. Without Sale and Eaton, but with Moncada and a lot of possibilities for the bullpen and rotation , the Sox , at least in theory, have a chance to win a lot of games. Let's assume they do and fans start getting excited like we did last season. Do the Sox then try to plug in a DH or RF player via trade to improve the team or do they try to tank the season by making trades involving Frazier, Robertson and Mellky that will likely only bring back less than elite prospects ? Edited to qualify 20-10....I mean that they have a dominant April, I know they probably have fewer games than that..
  6. Similarly as Nightengale tweeted: "The Cubs trade talks for #Tigers Justin Wilson have stalled, the clubs say, unable to find match, and both sides appear to have moved on" As fans we have an insatiable desire for this kind of information, so we should not complain when we hear about deals that have no hope or when trade talks have come to an impasse.
  7. Most baseball analysts seem to think that the White Sox fleeced the Nationals for Eaton. That is not necessarily the case for a variety of reasons. First, Eaton is very underrated as a defensive player, as a lead-off man, a base runner, and as a clutch hitter with power. He really started to flourish as a defensive player last season. Second, the Nationals are unlikely to sign Bryce Harper when he hits free agency, so they are now insured that RF will be manned by Eaton . Third, Giolito is not a sure thing as was demonstrated when he came up to the major league level last season. Quintana is likewise one of the more underrated players in baseball. Anyone who has watched the White Sox over the past few years has seen Quintana battle and keep the White Sox in games despite the lack of run support. Quintana is consistent, durable and he is signed for four years in a team friendly contract. The Sox should hold on to Quintana unless they are bowled over with an offer. Wait to trade Quintana until the trade deadline to maximize return.
  8. Out of 8 position players we have two young players, Moncada and Tim Anderson, to build around, and possibly a third Zack Collins,, that could grow into a future core of star players in their early/mid-twenties around the same time. Unless and until that core of elite position player prospects is added to we may not see any light at the end of the tunnel. Time is of the essence in at least accumulating that young core so that they will all reach a career crescendo in the same time frame.
  9. I would be pleasantly surprised if the Sox acquired another top 50 prospect for any player other than Quintana.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) Why on Earth would you want to reduce anyone's return by packaging Shields with them? Let Shields suck here for the next two years while eating some innings since the team is going to suck anyways. There might be a few teams that would want Shields to fill out the back of their rotation.
  11. Not sure about this but possibly the Yankees if they deal Headley somehow before Frazier is traded or the Mets as insurance for David Wright.Bith teams have other options obviously, The Mets or Yanks would welcome the NJ native and Todd would like to play out East, I think. He's a great guy and I'd be sorry to lose his presence on the team, but nt that Hahn os blowing it up, it would be best for him as well as the team to trade him. Same with Robertson and Melky. I would love to package Shields in any trade. Just get rid of him somehow some way.
  12. Kenny Williams put together a team that did what it took the Cubs 108 years to do. I respect the man's intelligence and have always appreciated how he has spoken in public and conducted himself while representing the White Sox and the City of Chicago. Same goes for Rick Hahn. I can't say the same thing about Chris Sale who stepped over the line a few times.
  13. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) Yeah, I'm not crazy high on Anderson. I think he can be an average major league regular, which is a coup for the Sox considering their track record in developing position players, but I think it's misguided to talk about him as a future star. I guess you haven't watched too many Sox games then. Anderson has tremendous speed on the bases. A double for most other major leaguers is often a triple for him. It is a thrill to see him go from first to third. He has had a lot of strike-out primarily because of his aggressiveness. He can easily change his approach and cut down on K's. Tim has unbelievable range and has made some spectacular throws from deep in the hole between short and third. He also has rare power for a speedy shortstop. Tim Anderson is a future star and will be better than addison russell.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) Stone Bennetti is fine. No, that has to be blown up as well. In my opinion, Bennetti is awful. Let him take over the radio side and get some experience. Stone is done and so is Hawk. Thank them for their service and honor them. Then bring in a new team with a fresh perspective.
  15. We have been spoiled by having Harry and Hawk for the last few decades. Moving forward , it would be great if Hawk and Stone retired and the Sox got a new announcing team, with Bennetti moving to the radio side.
  16. What about Robles if the Sox include Robertson plus Nate Jones, or pick up part of Robertson's remaining Contract. I guess I am trying to figure our how our Sox can get a decent position player prospect instead of Moncada plus a slough of pitching prospects. You know, desperation may be setting in for Rizzo since he whiffed on a few trades already.
  17. Nationals rumored (by Nightengale) to be interested in Robertson (if they do not get Kenley Jansen (who they cannot afford) and obviously, if the Sox don't get offered more. I'm now wondering what they have left in their farm system that the Sox would want and what would be fair? Pick up Robertson's remaining Contract plus Robles to the White Sox? Unbelievably, there may be a larger market for Robertson who some of us thought would not be garnering much trade interest.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) A Quintana deal will almost certainly bring back position players. I was referring to "elite" position players, perhaps those rated in the top 25 players in the minors. The Sox need position players that can hit the ball, excite the fan base, and put fannies in the seats. One of Trea Turner, Bregman or Benintendi could very well be worth more than all of the pitching prospects they just acquired. And that is why they are the untouchables. Ask most casual Sox fans for the names of the guys that the Sox just acquired for Sale and Eaton. Most will only recall one name - Moncada.
  19. While I am disappointed that the Sox did not get Trea Turner or at least Robles from the Nats., what is done is done. Looking forward, there is no question that the Sox need to augment the very small core of young position players (Moncada, Zack Collons and Tim Anderson) with some additional position players that are elite prospects in their early twenties in order for this rebuilding plan to work. It doesn't appear that they can get prospects like that now that sale has been traded,, which, I guess, is the point of this thread.
  20. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) Someone on MLB network said Sox and Stros are advanced in talks about Q. Need position players including outfielders, Right now 2017 outfield is Melky/Shuck/Avi G.
  21. Another consideration for the Nats is that they know they will not sign Bryce Harper when he is a free agent in 2 years. Having Eaton for five years would be valuable to them.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I think you guys are overestimating what the return may be for Eaton. I still think the Nats can do this without Turner. We watched Eaton play gold glove caliber RF last and he was more dependable at the plate than Heyward, especially in clutch situations. He is a better base runner than Heyward and can lead off for a team. He is under team control for 5 years at a reasonable cost. No, we aren't underestimating his value.
  23. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) Watch the Sox use Nationals as leverage against the Cards lol for something like Reyes, Weaver, Kelly+ Nats sound like they really want Q now that Sale slipped out of their hands. That's leverage that the Sox did not have when they were offering Sale. Adding Eaton to Q makes the Sox offer much more robust that Sale alone. Rizzo should take Dobo's advice and trade prospects to win now. Turner plu Robles is what the Sox should demand.
  24. Turner still has to go to the Sox in a three way deal with the Nats and Yanks or in a three way trade with the Nats and Dodgers. In the latter case, Frazier to Dodgers for Puig and the Nats get Puig plus Quintana. Puig might seem more Cutchy to them than Eaton because of his tools and flair..
  25. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Are you implying that the Sox may have dealt Robertson to the Cubs? I'm not so sure that the Sox front office wants to help the Cubs win another WS. Well it might be harder to beat Boston with the rotation they have now.
