Nationals rumored (by Nightengale) to be interested in Robertson (if they do not get Kenley Jansen (who they cannot afford) and obviously, if the Sox don't get offered more. I'm now wondering what they have left in their farm system that the Sox would want and what would be fair? Pick up Robertson's remaining Contract plus Robles to the White Sox? Unbelievably, there may be a larger market for Robertson who some of us thought would not be garnering much trade interest.

To those worried about the glutten of pitching prospects

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) A Quintana deal will almost certainly bring back position players. I was referring to "elite" position players, perhaps those rated in the top 25 players in the minors. The Sox need position players that can hit the ball, excite the fan base, and put fannies in the seats. One of Trea Turner, Bregman or Benintendi could very well be worth more than all of the pitching prospects they just acquired. And that is why they are the untouchables. Ask most casual Sox fans for the names of the guys that the Sox just acquired for Sale and Eaton. Most will only recall one name - Moncada. -

While I am disappointed that the Sox did not get Trea Turner or at least Robles from the Nats., what is done is done. Looking forward, there is no question that the Sox need to augment the very small core of young position players (Moncada, Zack Collons and Tim Anderson) with some additional position players that are elite prospects in their early twenties in order for this rebuilding plan to work. It doesn't appear that they can get prospects like that now that sale has been traded,, which, I guess, is the point of this thread. -

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) Someone on MLB network said Sox and Stros are advanced in talks about Q. Need position players including outfielders, Right now 2017 outfield is Melky/Shuck/Avi G. -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

Another consideration for the Nats is that they know they will not sign Bryce Harper when he is a free agent in 2 years. Having Eaton for five years would be valuable to them. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I think you guys are overestimating what the return may be for Eaton. I still think the Nats can do this without Turner. We watched Eaton play gold glove caliber RF last and he was more dependable at the plate than Heyward, especially in clutch situations. He is a better base runner than Heyward and can lead off for a team. He is under team control for 5 years at a reasonable cost. No, we aren't underestimating his value. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) Watch the Sox use Nationals as leverage against the Cards lol for something like Reyes, Weaver, Kelly+ Nats sound like they really want Q now that Sale slipped out of their hands. That's leverage that the Sox did not have when they were offering Sale. Adding Eaton to Q makes the Sox offer much more robust that Sale alone. Rizzo should take Dobo's advice and trade prospects to win now. Turner plu Robles is what the Sox should demand. -

Turner still has to go to the Sox in a three way deal with the Nats and Yanks or in a three way trade with the Nats and Dodgers. In the latter case, Frazier to Dodgers for Puig and the Nats get Puig plus Quintana. Puig might seem more Cutchy to them than Eaton because of his tools and flair.. -
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Are you implying that the Sox may have dealt Robertson to the Cubs? I'm not so sure that the Sox front office wants to help the Cubs win another WS. Well it might be harder to beat Boston with the rotation they have now.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:55 AM) http://www.royalsreview.com/2016/12/6/1383.../blow-it-all-up Looks like the Royals are going to make everyone available...theoretically...including Duffy, who would be a cheaper one-year rental alternative to Q. Kind of crazy...if the Tigers deal Verlander, Kinsler and JD Martinez...could have essentially 4 rebuilding teams out of 5 in the AL Central, with the playoffs practically ceded to the Indians for at least the next two years despite their microscopic payroll. That speaks to the fallacy of the blow it up rebuild strategy moving forard. This is not like when the Cubs tanked a season and got Kris Bryant. Now there is no guarantee that you even get a top 10 pick in the Draft if you decide to rebuild. Speaking about KC, I can't believe they are stupid enough to trade the best reliever in baseball (IMO) Wade Davis to the Cubs for Jorge Soler. LOL. Theo is cleaning their clock if they do that deal. Soler is a bad baseball player who is susceptible to injury, and he looks like his shoe laces are tied together when he goes after a fly ball. So Cubs are giving up nothing but salary to get Davis,. Unbelievable.. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) Could you get Turner, Robles and Giolito for Eaton and Quintana? Good thought because the Nats just lost out on Sale because they came up short (probably because they didn't include Turner). Also , they want McCutcheon, but Eaton had a far better year in 2016 and might be a better player for the Nats moving forward. So Quintana plus Eaton is a strong package for those three. Maybe I'd start with Q plus Melky. I would love to have been there when Rizzo asked Hahn what he wanted for Q and Hahn said, "we still would want Turner in the deal." -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
tray replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am disappointed that Hahn did not hold out to get Benintendi wih Moncada. Oh well.. The plan to do a tear down may not be that simple to execute with teams holding on to their best prospects.. Other than Quintana and possibly Frazier , the Sox don't have players that could be traded for elite prospects. So where will that leave us? Perpetually mired in mediocrity? -

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal

QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Mark and others, If the Sox don't get an "anchor player" for Sale what could they get in return for Quintana? Any chance the Sox start throwing his name out there to see what he would get in return? Great thought. In other words, if the Sox are only getting pitching prospects (and some with damaged arms) and a bucket of balls for Sale, then keep him and make some other trades, including possibly Quintana, Frazier, Abreu, Roberton and Eaton. So, yes, there has to be an anchor position player if they trade Sale, or he stays for the time being. My opinion is that Dombrowski will have the last dibbs on Sale and may have told that to Hahn. Washington is spinning their wheels if they think they can get Sale and Cutch without giving up Turner and Robles. I am intrigued by a possible 3 team deal with Pittsburgh the Nats and the Sox where the Nats get Sale and Cutch, the White Sox get Turner plus prospects and Pittsburgh gets prospects from both teams. Sox can sweeten the package to Pittsburgh with Carlos Sanchez and Courtney Hawkins. LOL! (Sorry, I'm going bat sheet crazy with all the speculation..) I just want an anchor player back for Sale, i.e., ...Turner, Bregman or Benintendi plus a prospect or two. We may know something on Tuesday....or not. Can't take the suspense much longer. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) Can someone tell me why Washington is so appealing if Turner isn't involved? Giolito has already had TJ and didn't do much of anything at the big league level, and Robles is a 19 year old in A ball. The Sox can't develop a player like him. Turner is a condition precedent to trade talk with the Nationals involving Sale. If he isn't, then it's - " thank you for calling but I have Dave Dumbrowski on the other line." -
I would consider Eaton a core layer and not look to trade him. He is the kind of player that is difficult to replace because he brings multiple assets -speed, defense (including an accurate arm from Right field) , on base percentage. There are several players I would trade before him, including Melky and Abreu. Abreu ,might have value to a team like Boston as a DH / first baseman. i think the Sox could either replace him ot fill in with what they have. Zack Collins and Matt Davidson aare two in house options for DH and first base.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) As have I, It's been mentioned numerous times on air. All the envidence you need for that is in their podcasts. Because you mock something doesn't necessarily mean that you aren't a fan of said thing being mocked. Hating KW or Hawk is pretty common on this board if you've read some of the past threads, so none of those posters are Sox fans?? what good do any of us have to really say about the state of the white sox in the last decade? There's not really a whole lot to go on at the current moment. Does someone have to scream from rooftops until they're lips turn blue that they're a sox fan to prove their fandom? Some people aren't the go-hard fanboys to wear gear all the time. This argument is dumb and doesn't have anything to do with the White Sox, which is what I'd rather talk about anyways . Young Danny B Isn't it curious that people have to claim that he is? I didn't, I just responded with my opinion ....he isn't. You disagree. OK. The state of the White Sox in the last decade? How about the state of the cubs in the last century before they won it in the 9th inning of game 7, against Cleveland? The point is, winning the WS isn't what makes people fans of a team. It's about more than winning or there wouldn't be 30 major league teams in the league. You think there isn't a whole lot to go on now,? I disagree with you on that as well.. I am excited about any possible trades and how they will work out. There has been way too much piling on by critics of the White Sox and too much spiking the ball in the endzone by cub fans. Those of us who are true Sox fans look the other way and look forward to Opening Day 2017.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) Yes, he is. This has been stated multiple times. Uh, no he isn't...LOL..I have listened to Boars and Bernstein for years . I met Bernstein and had a good talk with him and no he isn't a "Sox fan." He and Boars have mocked the Sox for years and hate Ken Williams and Ken Harrelson. Show me evidence other than Bernstein or someone else simply claiming his is Sox fan. Have you seen him at a game? Have you seen him wearing a Sox hat around town? Heve you ever heard Boars & Bernstein have anything but snark to say about the White Sox? link?
-
Bernstein isn't a white sox fan. Never has been and never will be. He is a sarcastic wise guyl though. If I am a GM on any team I do not want to deal with Epstein because he wins every trade and will not give up his best prospects and players. That's fine but I don't want to be on the losing end of a trade with the Cubs. I still don't know how they got Addison Russell and Jake Arrieta. for dregach.

The Sox have to try to get one of the untouchable young star position players, some how, some way. E.g., Trade Sale plus Frazier and Eaton to the Nats for Trea Turner plus prospects. , or trade Sale plus Frazier and Nate Jones to Boston for Benintendi and Moncada. or trade Sale plus package to Atlanta for Dansby Swanson plus prospects. The Sox will not blow this thing up completely. They have to come out of this with hope for the future in the minors plus a more exciting young team on the field. By the way, OT, I drove by Sox park yesterday and saw that G Rate sign facing toward the Ryan. Geezus krist...what were they thinking?

QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) Best thing the White Sox could do, is to do the complete opposite of whatever that buffoon says to do He may be a buffoon and you might be much wiser than he is, but Russo hosts a program on mlb network and , in my opinion, at the very least made some valid points which should be considered rather than brushed off. Russo warned that the Sox must consider the timeline to rebuild in terms of the potential loss of interest in the team and lower attendance because of the Cubs. Russo is arguing that the Sox should try to compete every year rather than "running and hiding" for several years only to determine in three or four years, that they are still not competitive. At that point they may have done substantial damage to the franchise, the size of its fan base, and the teams bottom line. I am not cure I agree with all that he said, but the Sox probably should proceed with caution if they are really thinking of blowing the team up and tanking for several years. That strategy might end up hurting the franchise badly.

SOURCE: 2 horse race between Dodgers and Astros
tray replied to Carpe Diem's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox value Abreu because of the kind or person and the kind of teammate he has been, and Abreu, on the other hand, appreciates what the the Sox have done for him and wants to remain with this organization (and he has said so on more than one occasion). Because of that, I don't see Abreu being traded unless Boston blows us away with a package so that they can anoint Abreu as the successor to Big Papi. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) I'm on the other end of the equation. Boston has 3 top 15 guys in Moncada/Benintendi/Devers. 2 more top 30-40 guys in Kopech and Groome. Tons of leftover former elite prospects as throw-ins with Swihart/Owens/Vazquez. If Boston offered me 2 of Moncada/Devers/Benintendi + Kopech or Groome as the 3 headliners, I'm taking it.....Bregman/Tucker/Reed would be close. Urias/Bellinger/De Leon as well. Devers has some of the best hit tool/power potential in the minors. I like your thinking there. I have a feeling that ANY suggested trade for Sale to any team will have to go through Dave Dombrowski who will want last dibbs on him. Dave D gets what he wants usually and he has never been shy about making a trade, even if it is unpopular. He knows that baseball, unlike other tean sports, is built around individual All-Star players, especially the extraordinary talents like Chris Sale. Sale in Fenway would be incredible and DD knows that. And yes, it would take a package with Benintendi/Moncada,/Devers for Sale and Frazier or Jones. -
I would not blow this thing up. I agree with Mad Dog Chris Russo. The White Siox cannot run away and hide for a few years and think the Cubs are going away. They have to try to compete every year. It is what it is. Here > Chris Russo
