  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 1m Team officials guesstimated this week that if Brady Aiken was a free agent, he'd get something in the range of $30m-$40m. What a system. This is true of every draft system. Imagine what guys like LeBron, Durant, Griffin, etc. would have gone for on the open market when they were draft eligible.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) The dude over at hoopshype, who apparently scouted Mirotic, thinks the no-defense claims are unfounded. He had some stat where in pure one-on-one situations Mirotic got a steal 25% of the time. That has to be good, right? That stat is almost certainly incorrect. Mirotic averaged 1.1 steals per game so unless teams never attacked him there is no way that is true.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) The numbers I saw writers guessing at were between $10 and $20 million. I am guessing that on the open market, the later is much more likely than the previous. Do you see the Sox putting $20 million down for a pitcher that could be a half of a decade away from the majors, and might have a significant injury risk? I don't. I don't see the White Sox being anywhere near the top tier of bidders. Not to mention, with the insane amount that the Yankees are spending on international free agents this year and their emphasis on improving their farm system, I'm certain they would be licking their chops at being able to add a premium talent that comes with no penalties and would drive up the price significantly.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) No doubt. Irving - worst defensive pg not named Felton Waiters - Horrible James - Top 5 defender in league Love - Bad bad bad Verajao - never healthy and sucks James's offensive numbers may decline with how much he'll need to cover on D. Umm, Varejao is a very good defensive player and terrific rebounder when healthy. The problem is he isn't healthy near enough.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) I'd be seeing what the highest bidder on Putnam is and selling. He screams one year wonder to me. The only two guys in the pen I'd be hesitant to trade are Petricka and Webb and that is mostly because I think the returns they would bring back would be less than their value to the Sox. Guerra, Belisario, and Putnam should all be on the block.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) Jimmy will get a whole lot better simply by having other offensive options around him. He wasn't ready to be a primary scorer, and probably never will be. Except he wasn't a primary scorer last year. He still had a really low usage rate and was never a major part of the offense.
  7. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:29 AM) Agree with that. A 19-year-old pitching admirably in AA as well as a righty who "could serve as a No. 4 starter as early as mid-2015" according to a preseason scouting report. Seems like that might be stretching Tank's value to the max. I can't imagine there is any way the Mariners make that deal but the Sox should do that in a heartbeat if it is possible.
  8. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) Bowden has an article on what it would take to acquire various players. He lists three teams that would have interest in Viciedo and what it would take for each team to acquire him. Mariners - One of Ackley, Montero, Saunders, or minor leaguers Victor Sanchez or Tyler Pike Reds - RHP Jackson Stephens and 3B Tanner Rahier Royals - RHP Christian Binford http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/ If the Sox could actually get Victor Sanchez for Viciedo I would love that move.
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) This has been rather awful though. Well that format won't be returning next year.
  10. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) What a boring first round....Guess that should have been expected at that ball park. I only have it on in the background but wow has this been just awful.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) Agreed with everything above. If the Bulls could just magically swap Dunleavy for a guard, I'd feel a lot more comfortable. I don't think anyone wants Rose getting 38 mpg, but when your only backup is Kirk, who is going to miss, at minimum, 20 games, that's a scary proposition. I can't imagine the Bulls' offseason is done yet. They should send like 5 picks with Boozer to Philly to make something happen with Richardson and Wroten. Then this team would be unstoppable. Unstoppable? Jason Richardson didn't play at all last year, only played 33 games in 2012-2013 (and was pretty bad when he did play) and is 33 years old. He may be done. Wroten can't shoot at all so I don't think he is a good fit either.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) Also who downplayed McDermott in the Summer League? I don't want anyone to think I'm not excited about watching the bulls. Our spacing with certain lineups will be much improved. I'm going to watch regardless, I'm going to convince myself we can beat the top teams regardless, but this was the last FA period (next years FA sucks) with our core in their primes. It's hard to even anticipate what Rose will be. If he truly is 2011 Rose, then the game has changed. But I worry, even if the heavy post offense will destroy in the reg. season, better teams can deny that ball going to the post and it will be up to exclusively rose to make that team offense work. I'm looking at our team, I don't see how there are more defensive holes than last year. Any subtractions would at least be lateral, and Rose/Kirk defensively is much better than Augustin/Kirk. In fact I think defensively we've upgraded. Summer league should be downplayed. Playing well in summer league doesn't indicate anything as to how a player will perform during the NBA season. If a guy does play poorly its cause for concern though so it is nice to see McDermott perform well.
  13. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) I'm not ready to buy it yet either, especially since that article just dismisses the 2002 Brazil team because of their group. That team was stacked and they are still the only team to go 7-0-0. We might be seeing the start of another Spain type run here with Germany. But let's revisit this talk about best team ever if they win Euros 2016. Agreed. And while their group may not have been the best Turkey actually made the semi finals that year where they lost to Brazil for the second time. But a perfect run, 18-4 goal differential while featuring Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Robert Carlos, etc. That team was just awesome.
  14. Soccer really needs to develop concussion protocols. That German player should never have been allowed to continue on.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) Well, they haven't given up on Melo yet. There's multiple offers on the table for Melo, including a 2 year and then back-to-back years of player opt-ins. You sign Pau if you're trading Taj. Also, Gasol isn't really breaking down. D'Antoni refused to play him in the post and made one of the most gifted big men in the entire league shoot 18 foot jumpers instead of working his magic down low - and he still shot 48% with 17/10. He's an extraordinary get regardless of what else the Bulls do. Gasol's still a good player and I'd like him on the Bulls but he's missed a lot of games each of the last 2 years and he's had issues with staying healthy throughout his career. The transition to being a jump shooter also began pre-D'Antoni. He shot a very similar percentage of shots inside of 10 feet as outside of 10 feet the year pre-D'Antoni that he did under D'Antoni.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) Honestly waiters/bennett/picks sounds like the worst of all of their packages. Eh, if Thompson was really pulled from the Warriors package the offers that the Wolves have received for Love have been trash. Despite Bennett being dreadful last year, I'd take that package over the rumored Faried and Wilson Chandler package from the Nuggets or an offer from Golden State that doesn't include Thompson.
  17. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Wiggins helps their defense a lot and can take some pressure off of Lebron and guard the opposing teams best wing player. However, they have to trade him for love. The roster as currently constructed has some serious spacing issues for Lebron and love is the absolute perfect offensive player to pair along side him and Kyrie. Maybe the cavs are playing hardball and think their offer with other young pieces and picks will eventually win out, but if they miss out on love it can legit cost them championships. I'm guessing your last sentence is correct and the Cavs think that Waiters/Bennett/1st Round picks might get this done which would give them a core of Irving/Wiggins/LeBron/Love which would be f***ing ridiculous. When it is all said and done I'm guessing they would trade Wiggins if that is the only way to get the deal done.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Yeah, no. McGraw, stop smoking, that's not happening. Wade would retire before taking the BAE. Yeah, this is Wade's last chance for a big payday and he opted out of 2 more years of the max. He isn't taking anything other than a huge contract.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) The money Sox could offer just isn't worth it. Had he said he was interested in getting drafted he would have gotten a lot more. he needs very close to 7 figures to really have a legit shot at signing him. We can offer a whopping 100K, which after taxes, etc, will be closer to 60K. Yes, he'd still get a free education, but if he is a top 10 round pick, he'll get more then that anyway, with potential for a lot more upside. I'm a huge advocate for taking the money but the money Sox can offer isn't right here. Agreed. There is no way he takes the 100k. The Sox lost their chances of singing Montes de Oca when Rodon got the well above slot deal (and Rodon should have been the priority anyways). If Rodon had signed for around slot I think the Montes de Oca would have had a really hard time turning down what the Sox could have offered.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Didn't Aldridge basically say he will be returning to Portland, the reason he didn't sign is because he was waiting for the max for 5 years next year? Love will be traded and probably given an extension by the team that gets him, and Thompson will be subjected to a match. Would the Bulls be able to offer a max next year? I find that unlikeley. If the Cavs get Love he will definitely sign an extension and Aldridge has stated he wants to stay in Portland and with them having a solid young core around him I don't see him leaving. If those two are off the market next year's free agency class is pretty weak.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) So I've been busy all day and haven't seen a damn thing. Any new information or same old crap? Same crap. Nothing being reported is real news.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) @WojYahooNBA Cavs pressed Celtics/Nets officials to complete paperwork on 3-way trade in last hour, needed it done "immediately." Cap space is clear now. I think that 330 PM rumor might be true afterall. We'll see in 15. I hope so. I'm getting tired of hearing about LeBron and Melo's decisions considering most of the information we hear is complete crap.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 06:43 AM) From what I read, this pretty much confirms Montes De Oca goes to Mizzou. Oh well, it would have been cool to get them both Yeah, basically zero shot at Montes de Oca now. I would have loved to land him but getting Rodon in the fold was way more important.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 47s More I'm actually rooting for this. If that happens, Lebron is locked up for at least 4 years and Melo's FA dreams have to hinge on Durant. He's the only other superstar that will be available in the next couple years. That's if he cares about winning of course, which he does not. Keep gettin' dem checks. Well he also could care about winning but not at the expense of 40 or 50 million dollars and who could blame him for that.
