  1. Roy Williams absolutely owns Tom Izzo. Tom Izzo is now 0-7 against Roy Williams since Roy went to UNC and not a single one of those games has been competitive.
  2. Lol at that play not being called a travel. Miller walked before he dribbled and then took about 5 steps after he dribbled. Inexcusable to blow that lead against a bad GT team last night but also sucks to lose on a play like that.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) It's a transition year, losses like this are going to be more common than not. It's just disappointing that so many of the mistakes were by our juniors. Tracy's clearly never going to figure it out. Just doesn't have great basketball instincts. He has his moments but just no real feel for playing PG and not a good enough shooter to be great off the ball. After 3 years of starting I really hope Starks or Tate beats him out for the PG position next year. Tate needs to live in the gym and just become a threat to knock down shots and he will easily be better than Abrams next year.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) The problem is the Illini bench outside of Tate is about the worst I've seen in Champaign. With the way that fouls are being called now, you have to go more than 6 deep. That's the problem when you have an all freshmen bench and none of them are instant impact type guys. Thankfully Nunn is starting to come along a bit and Hill is really talented but this roster just isn't very good thanks to the 2011 class being a complete bust for Illinois.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:30 PM) Recruiting is such a crap shoot though. Tough loss but I think Groce can build on it unlike some other coaches. Eh, good coaches and recruiters consistently get good players. Groce did a terrible job down the stretch tonight but Weber left him very little talent for this season (with a decent roster for last year) that Groce did a good job with. We only have 3 scholarship players left from Weber and they are all very limited basketball players.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 09:23 PM) Double win for fathom tonight. Just terrible by Groce and Abrams. Remember when we all thought that Weber landed a really good class in 2011? Yeah, not so much. Shaw, Langford and Djimde weren't even close to being Big 10 level players, Henry transferred after doing nothing for 2 years, and Tracy hasn't developed his PG skills since his freshman year of high school and while he isn't a bad player he is basically an undersized SG that can't shoot. Awesome.
  7. Horrendous loss. Poor coaching by Groce down the stretch tonight after making great adjustments at halftime. Nice that the refs let GT's big men travel every time they touched the ball tonight including on Miller's go ahead shot. Tracy Abrams is incredibly disappointing, he has been terrible all year.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) La Tank Unfortunately it appears the office is gung ho on making the playoffs this year. So freaking stupid and short sighted.
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) Haven't seen this mentioned but Teague is heading to the Iowa Energy.... There goes Tank Commander Teague....for now Disappointing. I would love to see the Bulls give Hinrich away soon. Hinrich is a pretty bad player these days but the Teague/James duo would be so bad it would actually be funny to watch and on the positive side would lead to a lot of losses.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) Zook would be a great assistant. Just put him in the coach's booth on gameday, mute his headset, and let him hit the road recruiting. Absolutely agree with this. Zook would kill it as a recruiting coordinator. It is generally really hard for someone who was a head coach for 10 years at BCS level programs to check their ego and do that though.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) Either they should have accepted the fact that he would have built a consistently middle-of-the-pack big ten team with a chance at a decent bowl every few years, or they should have fired him in 2009. Keeping him around as a lame duck coach hurt his recruiting, and by the time they got rid of him it was too late. I think if they had been satisfied with what he was doing and supported him he could have kept up the recruiting and we would have been an average program. Instead, they waited too long and hired a s***ty coach. I can't believe 1 big ten win in 2 years is enough to keep you around for 3 years, talent or no talent. There has been little improvement. He better hope Cubit stays and Lunt is worth the hype, otherwise it's going to be another winless season next year. I still would have given him a 5-600k contract to be a recruiting coordinator. The dude can find hidden NFL talent better than most. That is just it though, there is nothing in Zook's 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes that suggests this would have been a middle of the pack big ten team going forward. Zook was also coming off a 3-9 season in 2009 where the team wasn't even competitive in most games despite having a number of NFL players. There was literally nothing to suggest he was going to build Illinois into a consistently middle of the pack big ten team after that season.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) His final two seasons were the first time Illinois had consecutive winning seasons in 20 years. How exactly is that running the program into the ground? His 2010 and 2011 classes were Ron Turner level bad (maybe worse when you factor in attrition) and his 2012 class wasn't going any better before he was fired. Propping Zook up with coordinators who did most of the coaching led to a couple mediocre seasons where Illinois had as much or more NFL talent then pretty much any other team in the Big 10 not named OSU or Wisconsin but predictably Zook's recruiting also fell off because no one had any confidence in him after the 2008 and 2009 seasons and none of the coaches on that staff were particularly good recruiters. If that staff stays together last years team might have been ok but with the lack of talent coming into the program Zook had Illinois heading back to the end of the Turner era. A real program would have fired Zook in 2009 and the next coach would have come into a really good situation to succeed right off the bat. But that would have actually required balls and forward thinking and sadly Guenther doesn't have either of those. Seriously besides Jonathan Brown and Cvijanovic there isn't a single player from the 2010 class who is an above average Big 10 player and you have to stretch to find average Big 10 players. And the only good Big 10 player from the 2011 class is Josh Ferguson with Lacosse and Jon Davis being solid Big 10 tight ends. Notably there isn't a single legitimate Big 10 defensive lineman in either of those classes. Beckman was a bad hire but I have no problem with the decision to fire Zook.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) Nebraska's been pretty much what nebraska has been for past decade. If you remove the Suh years, which I'm not sure why you would, it's been solid and uninspiring since Callahan started at least. Bo Pelini has actually lost 4 games in every season he has coached at Nebraska. Nebraska also has only lost less than 4 games in a season once since 2002. Its been a good but not great program for a long time.
  14. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 12:23 AM) Ha, I don't pull for anyone else in the SEC. They can all get f***ed. But I know what you mean - a lot of SEC fans root for other teams in the conference during bowl season. Sometimes on here I'll talk about how the SEC is the best conference. Because it is. It's insanely difficult week in, week out. So just because I'll tell you that my conference is better than anyone else's doesn't mean I root for other teams in the SEC. I hate Bama. I hate Florida. I hate Georgia (but that's mainly from living in Atlanta and the number of annoying UGA fans here). I'm indifferent towards the others. I only root for other Big 10 teams during the non-conference portions of their basketball schedules because that directly benefits Illinois. Otherwise I really don't give a damn if anyone else in the Big 10 wins anything.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) Trestman is going to get destroyed by the Chicago media after this one. Poor Gould, I can't imagine his emotions right now. Deservedly so, he was terrible.
  16. Just horrendous coaching by Trestman today. Even as good as Gould is settling for a 47 yard fg attempt is inexcusable.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) That's a shame. Expected, but still a shame. That was 57 yards, it isn't like he missed a chip shot Most of the tweets aren't about the kicker who attempted the 57 yarder but the starter who missed 3 fgs inside 45 yards. Doesn't make the tweets ok, but not unexpected given he cost them a very good chance at a national title appearance.
  18. Alabama's starting kicker is getting death threats tonight.
  19. Auburn/Alabama has been fantastic. The same kicker that lost Alabama the LSU game two years ago might lose it for them today as well. Wow.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Yeah I liked going for it but you have to give Gardner a chance to run You also have a couple of big tight end that OSU had struggled with all game and they weren't involved in the play either.
  21. Not a huge fan of the actual play call though. Why send every receiver to same side of field?
  22. I love this call by Hoke even if it doesn't work. You haven't been able to stop OSU at all and you really aren't playing for anything other than ruining OSU's season.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) They already have 2 losses And needed a pretty questionable call to beat Vermont. This Duke team is terrible defensively. Unless that gets fixed they aren't winning anything.
