Jalen Hurts is a guy that gives me some hope. Was really bad as a passer in year 1 and is having a big year now in year 3 so far. Of course he made a big jump from year 1 to 2, so far Fields looks just as bad, maybe even worse, than last year.
Fields has been fucking horrendous. Nothing in his play from this year or last suggests he is an NFL starter. He was as bad as you’ll ever see an NFL QB today.
Diekman was trash before the Sox traded for him. And the Sox chose to sign Kelly knowing he was hurt. Both horrendous moves at the time they were made.
It’s insane. Smart organizations build depth and trade superfluous mediocre pieces for guys with upside (see Dodgers trading guys like Mitch White for Nick Frasso). We throw in guys who, while not stars, can help organizational depth in case of injuries or just so you can save money on your bullpen and not spend $9m on fucking Joe Kelly for trash.
Yep, they likely don’t bring in Cueto if Lynn doesn’t get hurt and they don’t sign Andrus if Anderson doesn’t get hurt and Andrus (while almost certainly a fluke) has been better than Anderson and Cueto has been their second best starter.
Also, Eloy getting hurt should just be baked in at this point. He hasn’t shown the ability to stay healthy for a complete season. Kopech having some issues also not a surprise given his history and ramping up his innings.
