  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) How much money do you want to bet that Iowa will not finish last? They have an improved coach, are a very young team, and seem to be keeping all of there recruiting class (which is though to be a top 35 or so class nationally). I'm not going to say they will win the big ten, but they should be much much improved and the cupboard finally isn't bare at Iowa. Now things could change between now and than, but as of now, it sounds as if everyone is eager to stay and learn Fran's new system and Fran seems to be saying and doing all the right things so far at Iowa. The big question is going to be whether he can recruit the athletes necessary to run his high octane offense successfully in the big 10. Larson has already asked for his release and I have heard rumors Fuller might be on the way out. Those are really big losses. But if Battle stays in the draft it won't matter because PSU will be by far the worst team in the conference and that is saying something with how bad Iowa and Michigan are likely to be.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) well, its official you are high. Sullinger is probably the best HS kid in the country, yet he's not an NBA type player? How many top recruits arent "that good" according to you. All of a sudden you think that ILL is going to go from a non-tourney team, and hop over THREE teams that made it this year. Classic Illanoy view on sports. I'd place OSU over Illinois for sure going into next year and just behind MSU and Purdue. I wouldn't be surprised if any of those 4 teams won the Big 10. I would also be really surprised if Illinois finishes behind Wisconsin next year. Leuer is a stud and I like Taylor but the rest of that team just isn't impressive at all. I really don't get how people can say Wisconsin will be better next year than they were this year without Hughes and Bohannon when they don't replace them with anyone of note although Wisconsin will still easily be a tournament team. Also, Illinois finished ahead of Minnesota playing a more difficult Big 10 schedule this year, loses less and brings in a much better freshmen class. How exactly would it be surprising for Illinois to finish ahead of Minnesota? I see 4 potentially elite teams (with Purdue and MSU being sure things, OSU being close to a lock, and then Illinois as a potential elite team but far from a lock), a surefire tournament team in Wisconsin, and then Minny and NW as potential tournament teams. Indiana will finish 8th and then the other three teams will be absolutely horrible and will fight it out for last with Penn State if Battle leaves being the overwhelming favorite for last place.
  3. I really really want to punch Dick Vitale in the face right now.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) You also give them a chance for a baseball pass without taking any time off of the clock. Which isn't hard to defend if you are up 3 since you don't have to play anyone behind the 3 pt line. It is still going to be an incredibly difficult shot either way.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) You are making a team get a rebound, dribble all of the way up the floor, and get a decent shot off in 3.6 seconds... all without a TO. Butler isn't likely to get a good shot off either way, probably a halfcourt shot in either situation. Only if you make the FT the worst case scenario is you are playing for OT.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) You suck Jennifer Hudson. It is tough to ruin an already terrible song but she managed to do so.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Memphis and Kansas was significantly better than this game, as you knew you were watching future NBA stars on the court. I'm thrilled the game was close tonight, but I feel like the hype machine is out of control. At least the Sox won!! I'm obviously biased, but I'll take the 04-05 title game between UNC and Illinois over this one too. That game came down to the final minute and featured two teams that would have destroyed either team playing tonight.
  8. Also, did Zoubek miss that last FT on purpose because if so that is unbelievably stupid strategy on the part of Coach K. You never bring a potential loss into the equation in regulation. Make the FT and if they make a prayer to send it in to OT fine, but to give them a chance to win it in regulation is just dumb.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) Maybe on the offensive end... the execution on the defensive end was great by both teams. it was nice to see a title game played this hard on both ends of the floor. When is a title game ever not played that hard on both ends of the court? Because I guarantee it wouldn't have looked like Butler was playing that hard if they were facing UNC from last year and getting run off the floor.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) One of the great championship games ever played? Maybe one of the closest, but that game was pretty awful in terms of execution. This is pretty much how I feel about the vast majority of the tournament this year.
  11. Butler has made one shot in the last 8 minutes.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) The ESPN guys have been slurping the Indians all day. "They're so talented. They're so close." They suck. How could anyone possibly look at that rotation and hype the Indians. They are going to be awful this year.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Suggestions, then? I've had Uno, Gino's, Malnati's, Giordano's, and Home Run Inn. It is safe to say you are hopeless.
  14. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) I think I speak for almost everyone when I say "GO BUTLER" Sort of but because I am spiteful and jealous it would annoy the hell out of me if Butler has a championship and Illinois doesn't despite having several teams that would destroy this Butler team.
  15. Would either of these teams have had any chance to win a championship in any of the last 20 years? I'm struggling to find a national champion I think either Duke or Butler could beat.
  16. Many people have misunderstood Bob Huggins? Shut the f*** up Clark. He cares so much about his players that he didn't care enough that almost nobody who played for him at Cincy graduated.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) I really really dont know who to root for here. Hate Duke, hate Huggins. I can't ever root for a Huggins team.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Ah, so you only like to watch games played perfectly by both teams involved, THATS whats enjoyable to you? Something ironic in that coming from an Illinois fan. LOL, I haven't enjoyed watching Illinois play the last few years but I watch them because they are my team. Watching games where there is little to no offensive ability showcased is not enjoyable to watch. If I wanted to watch crappy basketball I would watch the women's tournament.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) So short sighted. You are telling me there werent any good games past the first round? Your memory isnt serving you well. We have 2 #5 seeds in the final four, those upsets alone make it a great tourney. As for a terrible start? You just had a game come down to the last second with a free throw standing in the way of a win. The refs controlled the game for the most part, but the game was contested and close and you can bet that Butler and MSU fans came away thinking that was a great game. There was a 10 minute stretch in the 2nd half where Butler outscored MSU 4-3. That is terrible basketball. I don't care if it is closely contested, that is lousy basketball that isn't entertaining to watch at all.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) Close games and upsets are 100% the reason the NCAA tourney is so popular, nobody watches it because there may be pro-caliber players in the game. Some of the best NCAA games of all time featured players that never sniffed an NBA career. See I guess my problem with this is that a close game doesn't make a game enjoyable for me to watch. This game was absolutely terrible to watch even though it was close. The fact that the last minute might be entertaining doesn't erase the 39 minutes of garbage that I had to watch before that.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) It has been one of the best ever judging by upsets and last second shots. Nobody cares that every player isnt pro caliber since its college sports, you are stupid if you expect every game to be a showcase of highly skilled players. MSU got homered pretty good in that game, but I think either team will be stomped by the Duke/WVU winner. I expect that once you get to the Sweet 16 and beyond that the games will be played at a pretty highly level and they are year in and year out. There have been very few really good games after the first round. The first day of the tournament was a ton of fun and since then there hasn't been much to get excited about. Most of the 2nd round games weren't close, the Sweet 16 games were terrible for the most part and 2 of the 4 elite games were fun to watch. Add in a terrible start to the final 4 and this hasn't been a great tourney.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) I love college basketball more than anything, but this is terrible. Summers is a decent player, but he looks like an NBA guy compared to the rest of the horrible talent on the court. I love college basketball as well, but this tournament other than the first day has been pretty brutal to watch. The only good games last weekend were Xavier/KSU, MSU/Tenn, and Duke Baylor. The rest of the games were brutal to watch and really after the first day of the tournament the first weekend was pretty boring as well (other than KU/Northern Iowa, MSU/Maryland, and a couple of others).
  23. BTW I love how defensive college basketball fans that aren't big NBA fans can be about the quality of college basketball. I started a thread on an Illinois board about how terrible the quality of play has been throughout this tournament and got attacked by people saying this has been one of the greatest tournaments ever. The first day was amazing and there has been 3 or 4 good games since then but nearly every game last weekend was horrible.
