QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) I just saw a list of the unofficial top nfl times, and Ted Ginn is the top at 4.06. another guy Wright I think at 4.09 Bo Jackon 4.12 with Dante Stallworth 4.13. The most jaw droping though was Deion Sanders 4.45 backwards. There were also some claims of Willie Gault posting a 4.05 and a 3.98. Honestly I would guarantee all those times are crap. All hand timed and thus much better times than they actually were. -

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Not a chance he would be in the 4.0. He easily would be sub 4.0. 3.75 max. Other guys have run sub 4.0 and Bolt is the best ever trained for just that type of thing. He would be closer to your superhuman 3.5 then your 4.1 prediction. Who has ever ran sub 4.0? Nobody has ever come remotely close to that at the combine. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) The tie breaker made no sense... Nastia had more scores over 9.0, but since the scoring system takes out the lowest score she lost because the other girl actually got a 8.9 compared to her 9.0?? Just peculiar. (Edit) If you look earlier in this thread youll find me complaining about how in qualifying a girl who fell got a better score than some one who landed. Quite frankly, whoever came up with that tiebreaker is a f***ing idiot. Quite possibly the most ludicrous tiebreaker in the history of sports. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) Just got to see the tie in uneven bars, pretty controversial scoring imo. Gymnastics judging is a joke. I know there are starting values to routines but how the hell did that Chinese girl win a medal on the vault yesterday when she landed on her knees. That should automatically eliminate you from medal contention. Edit: And that is the dumbest tie breaker I have ever seen. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) I've been watching a good bit of boxing and hate the Olympic scoring system. I don't understand it nor can I get how guys can land solid punches and not score. The lone American left is from Tuscaloosa and he is very raw. i'd be surprised if he wins gold, but if I can, I will watch it. It is a stupid scoring system. I know jabs are not scored as points and I believe it has to be a straight bunch with your shoulder behind it to count as a score. And the scoring has been pretty random as well because a certain amount of the judges have to register the punch for it to count. It is a terrible system for scoring boxing. -

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) The US boxing team only has won one medal? What the f*** has happened to us? We used to dominate in Olympic boxing? Nobody has won a medal in boxing yet. However, the US only has one guy who even made the medal rounds. I think boxing has dropped significantly in popularity in the US which hurts the medal count. But Olympic boxing just has no similarities with the type of boxing Americans are used to seeing and I don't think American fighters are trained to be successful in that atmosphere. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) certainly it doesnt happen every olympics but in the past 10 olympics it has happened twice, and id be willing to bet that a pretty significant number of them have won 4 or 5.....im not arguing that he has been the best swimmer ever, im simply saying that there are alot of other people in other sports who never get the chance to win 8 medals, but may own their sport in an equally dominating fashion Phelps is the only swimmer to win 8 medals in an olympics I believe and he won 8 golds not just 8 medals. That is absurd. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Let's not discount that Phelps has had to swim more times than Spitz to get his medals? They didn't use to have as many prelims and semis. Phelps has had to swim 17 times in like 9 days, sometimes with just a half hour between swims. I'd like to think he is the best ever, but like anything, you can argue that all night long and never get anywhere. What I do know is that what he is accomplishing is freaking amazing! He also is probably swimming against much stronger fields than Spitz ever faced as well. I'm not sure what swimming the anchor leg has to do with being considered the greatest swimmer ever. And Spitz did not win the 50 free either. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) Blah that's kind of stupid. The vast majority of attractive females with a facebook page are going to have "very interesting and very nice" photos on them, that's just part of the deal. Unfortunate news in the olympics as the United States team lost 8-7 in their baseball opener against Korea. The U.S. erased a 6-4 deficit entering the 9th by scoring 3 runs, but Korea scored 2 of their own in the bottom half to win it 8-7. The United States soccer team was also eliminated, losing 2-1 to Nigeria. The American team gave up a last second goal to the Netherlands in their previous game, turning a win into a tie, and that cost them a spot in the next round. Orozco making a ridiculously stupid decision early in the game against Nigeria to throw that elbow plus the refs awarding the Netherlands a pretty iffy penalty kick to give them a win also contributed. The Netherlands is unbelievably lucky to still be in the tournament. Well at least the US finally has some promising young talent in soccer. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) Well cheating to me implies getting an advantage. For example: A player can get suspended from the olympics for doing illegal drugs, these drugs include steroids and marijuana. If some one was caught doing marijuana I would consider it breaking the rules, not cheating as they are unlikely to be getting any benefit from it. If some one was caught doing steroids, it would not only be breaking the rules but cheating. I just dont necessarily see the advantage of using a younger athlete when generally athletes that young are not as good as those a few years older... Now if we just go by the definition of cheating, then yes it is as it is some sort of trickery, but Im going by the gaining an advantage standard. The whole purpose for placing a younger gymnast on the team is because they are better than the alternative. They are using it to get a competitive advantage. And the older equals better theory does not fly at all in women's gymnastics. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) Some of the scoring is crazy, I saw a girl just completely wipe out in a vault get a better score than some one who landed a different vault. A lot of the problem is reputation if you are supposed to win the judges seem to fall over themselves to make sure it happens. On the other hand I feel that no matter what the US did on pommel horse they were getting a bronze, the judges werent going to let them pass the Japanese and werent going to let them fall below the Germans. Its not necessarily cheating as it should be a disadvantage to have younger athletes than older more experienced ones. They are just breaking the rules if its true. And its basically impossible to prove as there is no real test to determine age. It isn't cheating if you break a rule to get a better gymnast on the team who wouldn't be able to compete under the rules? Not following. -

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Was I the only one yesterday who thought the US mens gymnastics team was getting the shaft on some of their scores? How is China getting all their medals? Ridiculous. Any sport where there is a subjective scoring system is inherently flawed. The scoring system now gives a competitor a starting score based on the difficulty of the routine and the US for the most part was starting a few tenths below the Chinese before a routine began. Plus, I think reputation plays a huge role in a subjective scoring system. Well known and top gymnasts or skaters tend to get a lot more benefit of the doubt when they make mistakes than their counterparts. I have more of a problem with the fact it is pretty clear China is cheating by having girls that are too young on their women's team. -
I thought we paid way too much for Linebrink after he really struggled down the stretch for the Brewers last year. I thought Floyd would post an ERA around 5 for the Sox. And I thought Contreras was probably done after last season. I thought Quentin would be good and thought he should get the starting job but obviously I didn't expect him to be an MVP candidate. I thought our offense would be a little stronger but Swisher and Konerko have both had down years which has hurt the offense tremendously. Crede performed a little better than I expected when he was healthy but I was unfortunately right that I didn't think he could stay healthy for an entire season.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) Did the colors of the lights mean anything?Because there were red lights and green lights. ONe of the fencers has a green light and one has a red light. If the fencer on the green side scores than the green light comes on. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) So do the entire KC Royals team. They are a disgrace. They fold vs. the Tigers and Twins at home and they'll kick our ass at least one of the games in the upcoming series, maybe 2. What a joke they are. It isn't the Royals fault that our pitchers s*** the bed last weekend.
