8/2 Sox-Royals on FOX Saturday Game - 2:50 CT

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) He took an absolutely terrible route to the Butler chopper, and then completely mistimed the Gordon liner. It would be nice if Buehrle could pitch over a defensive mistake for a change. -

Good execution by the Sox getting OC in. Nice to grab another early lead -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) I also disagree with Depp being the Riddler. Maybe its because I associate Depp with Tim Burton and Tim Burtons fantasy world, but I dont know that Depp's character acting fits in with Nolan's version of the Batman universe. I understand that the Riddler is quite the jester/light hearted type of criminal, but at the same time i dont see Nolan going in that sort of a direction. But i digress, there was lots of poo-pooing the choice of Ledger as the Joker, and that was a stroke of brilliance. I dont know that the Riddler is as much of a lock as we all think he may be. There are so many criminals to choose from, and Nolan already stepped out of the "knowns" in Batman Begins by starting with Ras Al-Ghul, so he could go in a completely different direction. Milkman, Knighni pretty much nailed it. there have been a few different variations of the backstory, but its generally the same. A genius who starts out trying to help people and gets twisted by his own genius, he loves to leave clues etc The Riddler would not have to be portrayed a light hearted criminal. I could easily see him as some sort of deranged serial killer that kills for sport and challenges the cops to try to stop him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) Is that a bad thing? Especially with Griffey and Thome in the lineup? Griffey's hitting .212 against lefties and has an OPS 116 points lower than he does against righties. And I'm still not sold that Thome has suddenly at his age figured out how to hit lefties but forgot how to hit righties. As long as he keeps going to left field Thome will be fairly effective against lefties. THe thing is I still have no confidence in him against lefty specialists late in games and that is where having Thome and Griffey back to back would be problematic.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) Yeah. Obsessive-Compulsive who was beaten by his father for being too smart. Cheated and tricked people for profit as a youth/younger adult. Moved up to tormenting Batman for the challenge. The other big thing with the riddler is he gives advance warning of his crimes to give crime enforcement and Batman a chance to stop him.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) Hawk is citing our troubles in this dome every half inning. "Some places you just don't play well in." Well, guess what -- we have three remaining games against the Twins in the same stadium late September. It may be the deciding series in the division. Something needs to chance. Tell Guillen to put a muzzle on. Instruct Hawk to remove himself from Gomez's .254 ass. Hell, I'd love to hear Gullen guarantee a series victory next time around in Minnesota. Just SOMETHING to show we're confident in ourselves. Yes, in past seasons dismissing the Twins didn't help; but as of right now, what we're doing isn't either. This team is more talented than past seasons, and we've shown in two games the ability to get an early lead. Hawk was unbearable tonight. Carlos Gomez freaking sucks. He doesn't hit for average, doesn't get on base, his SB % is not good, he doesn't hit for power. He is essentially a worthless offensive player.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Great post. Sox sucked during the series. Bullpen was horrible again. Losing 3 of 4 to Twins really really sucks. So we're 3-4 on the trip heading into KC, a team that is very very used to playing us of late and actually playing pretty well after sweeping the A's on the road. Is anybody happy with 1-3 in Minnie? Bullpen was horrible and the defense was just as bad. Absolutely pathetic defense in the 8th inning tonight. Bad throws by AJ and Uribe and Swisher really needs to pick those. But I know that speed intimidated our players into not being able to make routine plays. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) OK, that wasn't exactly infield in... Where's kyle when you need him? I'm not the only one who can't stand Hawk announcing a game. He's f***ing awful all over the board. Didn't you know Carlos Gomez is a game changer though? He doesn't hit for average, doesn't get on base, doesn't hit for power, and hasn't been great at stealing bases but he sure is a game changer. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Will Hawk ever get off Gomez nuts? His routine groundballs to 3B makes him a game changer. -

QUOTE (Soxman72 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) This is just pathetic. Swisher is just brutal. All I have heard is how good Swisher is at first. This does go and show you what speed can do for a team. That is one of the parts of the game we are very much missing. Speed had nothing to do with this inning. Nothing. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) Please, Hawk. I'm begging you. Enough about Carlos Gomez. Look at the guys stats. He's nothing special. There is a reason Hawk was an absolutely terrible GM. And that was a routine play and a horrible throw by Uribe. Speed intimidated Uribe? STFU -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) When your 39 and had a ton of injuries its possible you are washed up. When your 32 and 27 its called a bad year. Worded that poorly for Swisher as I am not saying that Swisher is washed up. Just saying that if Griffey is washed up and is still out producing Konerko and Swisher they must really suck. Fact is that Griffey has been better than Swisher each of the last 2 years and he posted a .868 OPS last year. He shouldn't be an everyday CF but he has been hitting very well lately and with the way Konerko has been hitting Griffey is certainly a better option at the plate.
