QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) How about how much heart he has shown dominating? He has been great. Wasn't really my point.

Am I the only one tired of hearing how much heart Oden has shown by playing 18 minutes? With all the TV timeouts there is no reason not to be able to play that much.

Altman Leaves Arkansas for Creighton

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) Dana Altman new coach at Arkansas So you fire Stan Heath to get Dana Altman? I don't get it. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) I guess the bears are holding out for more than just the 6th overall pick. Clayton said they may be able to swing a later round pick with it as well. That would be a huge win for the bears. We have proven over the last several years that anyone playing next to Brian Urlacher can play at a pro bowl level. Colvin, Holdman, now Briggs. If we can somehow swing him and draft one stud and another starter, its a huge win. There is a huge difference in the level of play between Briggs and Holdman. They aren't even close as players. And Colvin has been damn good with the Patriots when healthy. Playing next to Urlacher sure hasn't turned Hillenmeyer into anything even close to resembling a pro bowler.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) Well, that was a pretty worthless episode but I guess kind of cool. Not sure why they'd waste an episode to develop new characters and then kill them. All they showed us was they had a radio. They couldn't find an easier and more productive way to do that? I guess we know how Sun was kidnapped too, but I thought it was pretty obvious already. How'd the camp get those shovels, too? They had shovels you can buy at Home Depot. They never had shovels like that in the earlier episodes. I think them Lost f***ers are getting lazy. I pretty much agree. The episode was interesting and had a nice but not unexpected twist ending, but what was the point?

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
whitesoxfan99 replied to AssHatSoxFan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) Yeah, I agree, although I'm not so sure abot just how good tyrus will be. I'm having trouble envisioning him as a legit starting star PF, or anything more than an energy guy off the bench at this point, but hopefully he really can make the huge strides he'd have to make. Not saying aldridge will be a star, but he looks like the much more sure bet to be a solid player so far and would probably have helped the team out more in the present, in my opinion. And here's one of the worst pieces of crap I've read on espn, and that's saying a lot. Somebody sent me the link trying to get me mad. Another reason why women should not talk sports. I like how she claims kobe is just as good a defender as Jordan. And I literally laughed out loud when she said vince carter, mcgrady, and lebron are better defenders than joe dumars because they're bigger. Apparently today's NBA is tougher. I realize that kobe had those consecutive 50-point games and had 82 in a game last year, but does she even know Jordan had a 37 PPG season?? Whether it be mid-80s Jordan (when he was in kobe mode and did it better) or 90s Jordan, there's zero doubt who the better and more talented player is. I take Jordan over kobe, whether it be one-on-one or any scenario, always. She should never be allowed to write another article on the NBA again. I also liked the part where she writes that Jordan didn't have to contend with two multi time MVPs in his own conference. Think that may have had something to do with the fact that he was winning it all the time? Or how about how he had to face a 2 time MVP in the finals in the form of Karl Malone? Or that he faced a 3 time MVP for his 1st title? Or the first few years in the league he had to contend with the Celtics with 3 time MVP Larry Bird and Moses Malone another 3 time MVP was in the Eastern Conference as well? And as a scorer, lets ignore the fact that Jordan's career FG% is much higher than Kobe's single season best FG%. Jordan also has a higher TSP% for his career despite the fact the Wizards years brought both stats down quite a bit. In fact only 5 of Jordan's 15 seasons he had a lower FG% than Kobe's best year. His two years with the Wizards, his comeback 17 game season, his injury shortened 2nd season, and his last season with the Bulls in which his shooting percentage was still just .003 behind Kobe's best year. All this despite the fact Kobe played with Shaq so he did not see the same type of defensive attention. It is fun to ignore facts though. "Phoenix, Dallas and San Antonio are all better than the Utah, Portland and the Charles Barkley-led Phoenix team that Michael met in the NBA Finals" Based on what exactly? The fact that Phoenix and Dallas haven't won a title and Dallas lost to a team that couldn't touch any of those Bulls teams in the finals last year? Utah had two hall of famers and that Charles Barkley Phoenix team was loaded. Phoenix won 62 games that year despite Kevin Johnson only playing 49 games. And I don't get this argument anyways. Every team Jordan met in the finals was infinity times better than the teams Shaq and Kobe met in the finals. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) Hey guys, I guess I should admit something. I was a part of the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee and it has been a really long weekend. I hope fellow Soxtalkers will appreciate the matchups I helped create. 1. A potential Illinois - SIU matchup in round two! 2. A potential Sweet Sixteen matchup between either SIU or Illinois against Kansas (you're welcome Jimbo)! 3. A rematch for Indiana to avenge last year's 2nd round loss to Gonzaga! 4. Kentucky, should they win their opening game, having to play Kansas (a personal vendetta there) 5. Purdue facing Arizona in round one, and should they get lucky and get by the Wildcats, a definite roadblock against Kansas in round 2 (another personal vendetta) The only thing I didn't like (hey, I had to give up a few battles to get the big ones above) is having mid-majors matched up in two games: Nevada - Creighton and Butler - ODU. I voted to make Creighton an 11 seed and match them up against Vanderbilt who I think is overrated. That would have given them a 2nd round matchup potentially against Washington St, who I am not sold on as a #3 seed. I tried to get Creighton an easy path the the Sweet Sixteen, but that petterass (sp?) Hanrahan wouldn't given in if I wanted SIU, Illinois and Kansas all together. Oh well, can't win them all. It's been fun. If you have any questions - off the record, of course - about how the rest of the selections were determined, ask away! What was the discussion of Illinois like? -
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) The only thing is that VT might have the two best defensive guards in the country, and will make it tough for the mediocre guards of Illinois to do anything. Our guards don't score anyway.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) Illinois couldn't ask for a better situation. Nope. Could definitely see us making the Sweet 16 here. Virginia Tech is pretty Jekyl or Hyde though. They play some great games and some really bad ones.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Illinois probably should get in, but they'll be out due to the lack of even a single quality win. Also, quite a few mid majors will get at larges (Drexel and Appalachian State for instance). Hope I'm wrong though. Also, today's action made the 4 #1 seeds awfully easy. Appalachian State getting in would be one beyond ridiculous. Look at some of the teams they lost to. Elon, Wake Forest, Furman, and UNC Greensboro. Any major team has those losses and they aren't even being discussed.

Can someone explain to me why Lunardi has Arkansas in the tourney? They went 7-9 in the SEC west. The SEC west is freaking terrible. They did beat SIU, but I fail to see how wins against Bama or Vandy help you that much. Arkansas also lost to Auburn, LSU, and got killed by Missouri. They deserve to make the tourney over Illinois? Well I'm preparing to get screwed, it would be typical of the NCAA when Illinois is involved. -

Air Force should be out of the tourney after losing to Wyoming today. 4 straight losses including a loss to an awful TCU team and now only 10-7 in the MWC. Not a tourney team. -

That really should be an intentional foul there. You shouldn't be able to just grab a guy from behind in that situation. -
I missed the last 5 minutes tonight. Can some one send me a message telling me what happened?

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) I gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of the RPI either. IMO it factors in scheduling too much and skews the rankings. I just think anything that spits out Kentucky or Duke as a top-10 team or Arizona anywhere near the top can't be THAT useful. You can rack up a pretty impressive RPI by playing a lot of decent but not stellar mid-majors and one or two strong teams, espcially if you play in a decent conference (cough* Duke cough cough*). Plus, as Boeheim said just before that, a team gains about as much by losing to a good team as the do winning against a mediocre to poor team, and it doesn't account for teams that get better or worse as time goes on like Louisville or Oklahoma State. I can't take any complaint that Jim Boeheim makes seriously until he actually schedules a game outside the state of New York in their non conference schedule. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) I'd take Drexel. Illinois is the worst twenty win team I can remember seeing. Any team that loses that many games in the sludge that is the Big Ten, and beats no quality teams outside the Big Ten, doesn't need to go to the dance. If 5 Big Ten teams get bids (the max in my opinion), Purdue is more deserving (since they ripped Illinois by 17 points and had to play OSU/Wisc more than twice). Although if Illinois would get a bid, that would make it possible for Kansas to eviscerate them in the first round. I have the impression that several posters here would find that quite entertaining. Tons wrong in this post. First off, if Illinois is the worst 20 win team you can remember than you don't watch any college basketball. 2nd the Big 10 is the 4th ranked conference. You may not like the style of play, but the Big 10 is a solid conference. Since Michigan won tonight, Illinois has not lost to a single team that is outside of the top 50 in the RPI. You can make a case for Purdue, but they beat Illinois at Purdue and we all know how different road vs. home games are in the Big 10. Purdue only faced Wisky once and loss. Purdue didn't have to travel to MSU and only had to play Iowa once. They got to face the 3 doormats of the Big 10 twice each, Illinois got 5 games vs. those teams. Purdue lost at Minny which is just an awful loss. They also lost at Indiana St. which is another bad loss. Contrary to what Doug Gottlieb will tell you Purdue's conference schedule really was not a lot harder than Illinois. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Mario Boggan just went up and headbutted a KSU player right in front of the ref with a 16 point lead and 30 seconds left. What an idiot. He's their leading scorer and will likely be suspended now just when OSU needs some wins. He better hope it is just against Baylor and Nebraska and doesn't extend into the tourney. With the way they play on the road I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose those games.
