  1. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) I got it from an article on CBS.sportsline. And yes, it is flawed. I would probably go with team Illinois as well. Drexel has those nice out of conference wins though. The mid-majors should be rewarded for playing all those road games though. They also lost to Rider and William & Mary. That cancels out any big wins they had in my mind.
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) Heads, Self is going nowhere, it was a rumor started by an arkansas web site. Though if he loses in the first round again, he can leave. Just as I predicted a close game against a team playing on senior night with Kelvin Sampson in the crowd. OU played the old thug ball, which is fine. A close game and a win is a great remedy, need a few close ones on the road to glory. Why the hell would he go down the coaching ladder and go to Arkansas. KU is about as good a job as your can get. The only way I could see Self leaving voluntarily for Arkansas is if they offered him just an absurd amount of money. Even then I would be really surprised.
  3. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 07:05 AM) here's a story on illinois recruit quinton watkins: newspaper this game was last monday. since then he's scored 29, then 30 points in his team's playoff wins. dominguez (the third seed) next plays second seeded artesia on tuesday. artesia has a few d1 kids, so it will be a big test. Artesia is loaded. 2007 James Harden 5* going to ASU. 2008 4* Malik Story going to USC and then super soph Renardo Sidney. And then if Dominguez somehow wins that game they have to play Mater Dei whose only 3 losses are to Artesia, Oak Hill Academy and Lake Oswego (Kevin Love). I'm not sure how the California prep playoffs work, but man is that a loaded bracket.
  4. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) haha what a joke, lets go rush the court after almost losing at home. REAL programs dont rush the court, have never seen Duke, Kentucky, KAnsas or UNC do that. Duke rushed the court on Dockery's shot last year.
  5. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) Keeling and Shaw are foul machines. I don't think it is possible for either to enter a game and not commit a foul within a minute. MSU within two. Shaw needs to sit his ass on the bench. He is out of control with too many fouls and unforced turnovers. Sure, but this conversation isn't about one win. Wasn't from the beginning. I know
  6. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Not to me. They are playing well and destroying teams. The things they are doing against the Colorado's and Iowa State's would translate against better teams. I get your point for the most part. But everyone kills Colorado. They are one of the worst teams in the country, not just one of the worst major conference teams. New Mexico beat them by 41. They lost to NC Wilmington who is 3-14 in the colonial by 12 pts. Colorado would struggle against a good HS team.
  7. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 07:42 AM) i'd agree with that. i also am not real confident in either of these two final games. we never play well at iowa (even the dee, deron, lu team struggled there) so i would almost write that one off. even penn state is shaky in my mind. that same group is essentially the one that beat us last year in champaign. and although they're record blows, they have played better of late. but, nice win last night. good to have a game to talk about for a day or two. They won by double figures at Iowa in both 03-04 and 04-05. The game they actually struggled against Iowa was in Assembly Hall.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) I think he should have been kicked out his freshman year. Then, after the DUI, he should have been suspended for the entire non-conference. Weber was way too lenient with these criminal acts in the past, and now he's in a situation where if there's another issue, he's gone. Fair enough
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) If he punishes McBride more severly, then maybe he sends more of a "zero tolerance" message to his team. This was nowhere close to Jamar's first issue with alcohol at the school, and that's why I don't buy this is his first mistake. I'm still of the opinion though that Head, McBride, and Spears should have been thrown out of school, and likely into jail, for their burglary. So you are saying that punishing McBride for say 8 or 10 games instead of 4 that would have deterred the actions of Jamar. I don't see it.
  10. IHOP is giving away free short stacks tomorrow morning. http://www.ihop.com/tellafriend.php
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Also, great to see the Illini just win today and get it over with under those circumstances. Frazier is such a weird player, he has NBA lottery pick skills at everything but shooting, but can't shoot at all. I love Chester but he doesn't see the floor as well as lottery PGs do. If he ever can develop a jump shot he will be a great college player though. He has forever earned my respect just playing through the injuries and now with his family situation. Guy is an absolute warrior and the exact type of player I love to cheer for.
  12. I loved the sticker dunk and I thought Green was solid. Tyrus sucked and Nate Robinson should never be invited to do a dunk contest again.
  13. QUOTE(danman31 @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) What about when Corey Bradford was a freshman and they were towards the bottom of the conference? Not even close to one of the worst years of Illinois basketball in terms of play. The injuries and off court stuff has moved well beyond being ridiculous.
  14. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) Well, I don't think it's fair to say "White People". I think anybody not of the race being possibly descriminated against doesn't have a right. Very true
  15. QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) You would think the opposers of the chief would maybe try and increase native american population on this campus and ya know, actually do something productive. The dance wasn't racist. If FSU can do it, we should be able to do it, period. White people have no right to determine what is racist to group of people and what isn't. I didn't have strong feelings either way, but I think it is time for the chief to go. The Chief being a long lasting tradition is not a good enough reason to keep it around.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) Since the information I've been reading is on the pay part of the sites, I'm just going to wait a day or so to see what comes out. Like I said earlier, I hope everything turns out fine and the rumors are bogus. Hope so to. Kent Brown stated that Jamar did in fact call for an ambulance from the apartment complex. So it isn't like he just left Carlwell in the car for no reason. LINK
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) The guy drove home and left his buddy in the car in the parking lot of his apartment complex. His concussion either was so bad he didn't know what was going on, but able to find his way home with, if you look at the pictures of the car, his 6'11" friend only inches from him, or he was smashed and scared out of his mind. Who knows what would have happened to Carwell if someone hadn't spotted Smith in the lot. He's hired a defense lawyer, so apparently the hammer is coming. I have the feeling you won't be seeing Smith in an Illini uniform for a long time, if ever again. Hiring a defense lawyer doesn't necessarily have anything to do with drugs or alcohol though. Smart to hire a lawyer in a case like this regardless. There are reports that Smith contacted 911 so that could be one of the reasons he returned home. Well that and he had a concussion so there is no way he was thinking straight at the time. I hate when people rush to crucify public figures in these situations (not referring to you, I'm sure I've been guilty of this at some point).
  18. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) haha, stadium arcadium up for best album of the year is so funny. My god, they could've at least shaved 1.5 albums off that thing. So much filler. And then just throwing up gnarls barkley just for the buzz created. "it's so weird!!! lol" jesus. Thing has 3 good songs. Not as funny as My Humps winning a Grammy
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) A lot of coach's could have done what Weber's done with the talent he's had. Talent wise, this is an Illinois squad that's "down" so to speak, as is Indiana. Nonetheless, in a down year, Sampson has revived his troops and turned this team into a real contender in the Big Ten when at the beginning of the year people said it was a two team conference. I have played basketball, I'm well aware that plays break down. However, I don't believe these two plays can be excused. Both plays were failures on the inbounds play, luckily one resulted in the open look, still from three when shooting from behind the arch wasn't necessary. Weber built a SIU program that was very down into what is now a consistent tourney team and MVC valley powerhouse. A lot of coaches have had more talent that Illinois and not won 37 games in a season. And there is a big difference between IU playing this season while healthy and Illinois having Jamar Smith, Brian Randle, and Chester Frazier all injured at times. If Sampson was so much better of a coach than Weber, IU shouldn't have lost at Illinois and shouldn't have needed our guards to choke today to win. The 2nd play was a full court out of bounds play. Not exactly a quick hitter. Our problem is that we have no one who does a good job creating their own shot. McBride was covered well coming off the screens and Chester panicked. Bottom line is you have no idea what was called. Were they great play calls, probably not, but I guarantee what was run wasn't exactly what he called in the huddle.
  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) Whether or not he got an open look is irrelevant. If that was what Weber drew up, it's pathetic. Same with the second play. You come out of a time out, nobody is moving, and the guy has the ball for close to ten seconds being guarded for half of that? Please don't tell me you support those play calls and the play of your squad in the last minute. I could use a good laugh, but I don't want to s*** myself after the Chipotle I just ate. I never said IU fans were full of class. So don't put words in my mouth. I couldn't care less about IU students not showing class to Bruce Weber or Mike Davis. When you have 10k drunk kids in a building, I don't expect them to think things all the way through. Just as I expected Illinois students to unjustly poke fun of Kelvin Sampson. It's part of the game, it's what makes college basketball. So get off your high horse and make a post thats worth a damn. You have no idea what is called in the huddle. Did you ever play basketball? Plays break down all the time. We don't have a true PG (although I love Chet's heart, and yes this is Weber's fault) which makes things break down. On the last play Frazier picked up his dribble to soon, and then threw it to Pruitt. If you watched, screens were set initially for McBride, he didn't get open. Nobody moved to the ball. But yeah, that is Weber's fault. Bad coaches don't win as many games as Weber has won in the last 6 years. And your hypocrisy towards Weber vs. Belichick is laughable at best. Let me also say, that they didn't show Weber not shake hands with the players but if it didn't happen I disagree with him on that. He has some pretty good reasons for not shaking hands with a couple of IU's assistants though.
  21. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Great post! Have fun in the NIT for the next few years or you explain what you disagree with and I'd be glad to continue this conversation without telling you how badly your team is going to suck for the next few years. 1st Rich got a wide open look that IU was extremely lucky didn't go down. The 5 second call was terrible. DJ wasn't close to him until for the couple of seconds and it wasn't anywhere close to 10 seconds. Secondly I find it funny that someone whose program has employed Bobby Knight and Kelvin Sampson would call Weber scum. Not to mention the way IU fans treated Mike Davis. Yeah you guys are full of class. This from the same guy who defended Bill Belichek after the Colts game.
  22. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) I love the Illini complainers. Bruce Weber had two chances to draw up a play and take the lead. One resulted in 15 seconds of passing back and forth right at the half court line that ended with a desperation three and the other was a clear five second call, probably closer to ten, in which no one moved. Not only he a poor sport, a complainer, a whiner, but the guy is just a flat out bad coach. I'm glad he didn't shake the hands of our players, I wouldn't want that filth and scum touching our guys' hands. Not to mention, our very own Zach Hansen shot the half court shot at halftime. I'll have him explain the rest. Haha. You are the biggest homer in the history of sports.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Uh yeah it has. The Big 10 isn't very good this year, the Illini only played the 2 legitimately good teams once each, both at home, and lost both (1 in a blowout), they didn't play ANYBODY in the OOC, and lost at home to Maryland (a bubble team), a neutral game (although it was in Phoenix) to a falling off Arizona team that is now only 16-7, and at Xavier (lol), and haven't won anything resembling a good road game all year. With all that, and the amount of good mid major teams this year, that resume has no shot. Tell you what go through this site RPI and tell me how many major conference teams have been left out of the tourney that had over 20 wins and were over .500 in conference.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Must win both road games, period. Penn State is Northwestern esque, so they'll win that, but you have to win both home games and at Iowa, and at Iowa would be your best win (and that's still not a very good win). 9-7 in a major conference with Illinois strength of schedule has basically never been left out of the tourney.
  25. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) I don't know about that, they got some work to do. They really have one decent ooc win and that was against Bradley and then MSU and IU in the big 10. They're 3 and 8 against the the top 50 which isn't pretty. The only thing the Illini have going for them is they do have a good sos, they need to finish at least 3 and 1 to give themselves a shot imo. Agree, should win both home games and need to split against Penn St. and Iowa on the road.
