Official NBA Playoffs Thread

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 7, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Wasn't his fault that Nash's help showed up in the last 3 games and his didn't. Kobe is still the real MVP, even if Nash won this battle. Oh, and I think Cleveland vs. Detroit will be a good series. Cleveland won't win, but they will make it a decent series. Miami vs. New Jersey should be pretty easy for Miami, but I am biased against New Jersey since they suck on defense. I hope Dallas beats San Antonio, IMO they are the only team in the NBA that can beat the Pistons (they being Dallas) and Clips vs. Suns will be a REALLY fun series, I'll take the Clips to win though. Real MVP's don't quit on their team in the 2nd half of a game 7. Jordan never would have gone down that way. -

QUOTE(Dan @ May 6, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) they are a good baseball team, but their record doesnt reflect it, so many people like yourself just assume that they suck. They really aren't a good baseball team. But you can keep thinking that if you want.

Kobe to wear number 24 next year
whitesoxfan99 replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Kobe>Lebron imo. Kobe defends and Kobe doesn't pass every time his team is in a clutch situation, Kobe will take and most of the time make the big shot where as it seems like Lebron is almost afraid to take that shot. Passing to wide open teammates is worse than forcing a shot? People can criticize LeBron for passing up big shots but each time he has done it I have seen a teammate get a wide open shot. Plus, down the stretch LeBron has been taking games over down the stretch consistently. And not that this means all that much, but opposing players were more efficient on offense against Kobe then they were against LeBron. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Will someone please contact me when LeBron James wins something meaningful above the high school level? Until then please don't compare him to a hall of famer like Kobe Bryant. Wins last 2 years (Kobe without Shaq): LeBron- 92 Kobe- 79 Let me know when Kobe wins something meaningful without having the most dominant player in the NBA. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) LeBron is not better than Kobe, but thanks for playing. Anyone who takes a team who has a 3rd option named Smush Parker to the playoffs is a pretty damn good player. About the only thing I can see that LeBron does better than Kobe is pass and rebound. Kobe is a much better defender, scorer and shooter. He easily makes the toughest shots night in and night out in the league. He can also score basically (82 points in one night?) at will even though he is surrounded perhaps by the worst roster in the NBA besides himself. And when Shaq never wins another ring without Kobe, but Kobe wins one without Shaq, everyone will see just how huge Kobe was in winning the 3 rings. But everyone will keep trashing Kobe in this thread and that's fine, but just realize you are watching one of the best ever. The guy is a stud. Lebron's 3rd option was Drew Gooden and Ronald Murray, hardly what I would call great players. Kobe hasn't played any defense at all this year but neither does Lebron. Better scorer? Maybe more explosive but the only reason he averaged more PPG this year than Lebron is because he takes a lot more shots. He is a better outside shooter than Lebron but it isn't by all that much and Lebron actually shoots a much higher percentage from the field than Kobe. And last I checked passing and rebounding are pretty huge aspects of basketball. Saying Kobe is a much better scorer and shooter is downright laughable. The only reason Shaq might not win another ring is because of injuries and decline in his play as a result. You put D-Wade on those Lakers teams and they still win the title. Same goes for Lebron. Kobe is a terrific player and terrific scorer and definitely an all time great so you won't see me trashing him as a player. -

Nash reportedly repeats as MVP

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Besides Marion they are not in the same league as Sheed, Rip, Ben, and Prince. Barbosa isn't but Diaw is. Diaw is an absolutely terrific all around player and defender. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Where would the Pistons be without Billups? Where would the Suns be without Nash? No one can answer that. But the Pistons sure as hell wouldn't be a title contender and the Suns wouldn't be a #2 seed. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) No. Look at it this way: The Pistons wouldn't have been hurting that much without Billups, with that supporting cast. However, the Suns, Lakers, and Cavs would have been royally f***ed without Nash, Kobe, or Bron. The Pistons drop off in production was greater without Billups than the Suns production without Nash on the court. http://www.82games.com/0506/rolandratings0506.htm -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Wallace, Wallace, Prince, and Hamilton are not that awful. Neither are Marion, Diaw, and Barbosa. And for my money D-Wade, Lebron, Kobe, and Dirk were all more deserving of the MVP and Billups probably as deserving as Nash. Nash is a great PG, but he flat out isn't as good as the 4 guys mentioned first, he doesn't have more value to his team than Billups, and he absolutely sucks on defense. -
QUOTE(SoxRock05 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) but hes doing better than any of you can do. I fail to see how that has anything to do with whether or not he is a Major League caliber pitcher at this time.

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) I personally just have trouble seeing Carpenter as dominant. I see a guy that was horrible in Toronto, and then just becomes dominant? To me, the guy is still a 1 hit wonder. As for Mulder, he hasn't been all that great for a while. 2 years ago Carpenter was 15-5 with a 3.46 ERA and was 4th in the NL in WHIP. Last year he won the Cy Young and he is dominating so far this season. Sure doesn't look like a 1 hit wonder to me.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) Yeah, our school supplied them for us for free. We did it a lot in class and it helps with time management and what not. But I mean, what should I do this last day and 1/2 to prepare. Nothing. At this point you will either know the material or you won't. Relax, get enough sleep, and eat a good breakfast on the day of the test and you will be fine.
