  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) I forgot all about the tie-lighters. Digger Phelps How the hell could you like Digger Phelps?
  2. QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Yea when he's going to make a trade like this. Jim Thome>Aaron Rowand
  3. Anyone else watch that abortion of a basketball game between KU and Zona? Easily one of the worst basketball games I have ever seen. Might as well have been watching the And 1 tour without the tricks and dunks.
  4. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Bold predictions for today: Iowa upsets Kentucky and Maryland beats Gonzaga. The Zags did not look good in their first game at all. The Terps are deeper, more athletic, and have more guys that can score. Morrison is going to need a monster game, because Ravio will have his hands full trying to score on Strawberry and while he may be stronger than the Terps' bigs Batista is not as long or athletic. Iowa beating a Kentucky team without Randolph Morris isn't really a bold prediction. UK without Morris is really more like a borderline top 25 team.
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Jean Lenti Ponsetto Statement - 11/18/2005 By DePaul Sports Information Statement from DePaul University Director of Athletics Jean Lenti Ponsetto Re: Allegation of NCAA secondary rules violation in the recruitment of Manuel Cass "It has come to our attention that allegations have been made regarding alleged NCAA rules violations in the recruitment of prospective men's basketball student-athlete Manual Cass of Carbondale, Ill. Manuel was recruited by DePaul University and its men's basketball staff over the entire summer recruitment period. Manuel then made his official visit to DePaul University on the weekend of November 5. A National Letter of Intent (NLI) was sent to Manuel by DePaul University on November 8. DePaul men's basketball head coach Jerry Wainwright operated under the assumption, based on conversations with those involved, that Manuel had already signed his NLI to attend DePaul University prior to Coach Wainwright's visit to Carbondale on November 13. Coach Wainwright was thus operating under the belief that the NCAA rule stating that once a prospective student-athlete has signed his/her NLI, coaches from that respective institution are allowed unlimited contacts, was applicable. We have reported these actions to the proper officials at the BIG EAST Conference and will provide information to the NCAA upon completion of our review in order to cooperate to the fullest extent." Is it just me or does that statement just not seem very believable?
  6. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) I'm more worried about his feet problems, not how good he is ^^^ McBride will be fine if he stays healthy. I hope the second half of the last exhibition game is indicative of how he will play this year. It was only for a couple minute stretch, but he was aggressive and confident and looked like he could get whatever shot he wanted at will.
  7. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) Check this out. There's no way that duke team beats DePaul, and I was saddened to see scoop jackson, a supposed Chicagoan, choose duke. Illinois is in this too, but they look to have no chance in their matchup against Georgetown. The Greatest College Hoops Tourney Where is Elton Brand for that Duke team? But I do think that DePaul team would definitely beat that Duke team if we are talking about their NBA merits, not how they played in college. As for Illinois vs. Georgetown, while I think Georgetown would win at least 7 or 8 out of 10 it would be an interesting matchup because I think that Illinois squad would be able to run on Georgetown all day although they would have a very difficult time stopping Georgetown.
  8. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) That he is better than Beltran. He might not have the overall skills that Beltran does but he has produced consistently. I was glad the Sox didn't try to sign him last off-season. As I posted in another thread, Konerko and Beltran have been very similiar at the plate over the course of their careers. Konerko goes BA .279 OBP .349 SLG .488 vs. Beltran BA .282 OBP .350 SLG .479. OVer the last 7 years Konerko does average about 6 more HRs per year. Konerko also averages about 3 more RBI per season. However, Beltran scores 19 more runs per season so he does account for more of his teams runs. And the consistency argument is bulls***. Beltran has 5 100 RBI seasons in 7 years and one of those years that he didn't he only played in 98 games. So Konerko really isn't a whole lot better at the plate than Beltran. Add in the fact that Beltran is a better defender and is great on the basepaths and still tell me that Konerko is a better player than Beltran. Lets not forget that Beltran also had one of the greatest postseason performances of all time last year.
  9. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) capable of and results are two different things. Do it in the regular season and you deserve the love he gets. He is OVERRATED! What are your feelings on Paul Konerko?
  10. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) Good luck with Dee trying to run the point.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) You guys in Champaign aren't going to start running the Bracey Wright stare and stand offense, are you? Nope they will be running the motion just it will probably look a lot worse than last year early on. The ball movement and precision required to run the motion isn't quite where it needs to be yet.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) A-Rod is the best player in the game, I'd start any team with him. Pujols>>A-Rod
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) Carpenter is good and all, but Clemens should have gotten the award. Much better pitcher last year IMO Pettitte was better as well.
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) It's impossible to want the next one as much as I wanted this one. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm actually satisfied. I want the Sox to be competitive, to be in the running, but I am so relieved and happy to have seen what just happened, that if they fall off a little bit I can't imagine being too down on them. Somehow in my mind, breaking an 88-year drought buys you a couple years of a "free pass". Fire on me if you wish, I don't care. The Sox gave me something my grandparents never had, so I'm okay for now. I agree for the most part. As a Bulls fan (that remembers the first three peat was too young to really appreciate it) the first title of the second three peat was by far the sweetest and while the other two were great they just didn't give me quite the same feeling. The only way I would enjoy or want a WS title as much as this one is if we are playing the Cubs.
  15. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) You need to move on up to Quicktime 7 with the IPod ability thingy's. It's nice though, as after I did it I started to get a few ads. :headshake Thanks, and that trailer is unbelievable. I can't wait to see this movie now.
  16. Damn't I can't get the trailer to work
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) So when you are getting paid millions of dollars a year to play a game isnt enough, you should hold out for even more money? Football players can get cut at any time and their contracts aren't guaranteed. Also, football players typically have a shorter period of time to make their big money than athletes in other sports because of injuries and the wear and tear on their bodies. When owners decide to give guaranteed contracts in the NFL then players should be ripped on for holding out. Until then I think the players have every right to hold out for more money especially if they are proven quantities (TO, Walker, etc.) rookies I don't have quite the same sympathy for but if I was them I would hold out for as much money as possible because who knows if they will ever see a second contract.
  18. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) i was encouraged to read that both of these guys played well, particularly since neither were particularly high-rated prospects, and both have been used to support the old "bruce weber can't recruit" argument. if these guys turn out to be solid contributors this year, people might have to give credit where it's due. that said, it was an exhibition game against illinois wesleyan. i will withhold my excitement until they play well against some legitimate D1 teams. To be fair the Weber can't recruit argument is mostly the fact that he hasn't landed highly ranked guys. The guys he has brought in do look like players and how the gurus missed on Jamar is beyond my comprehension. When he puts on some muscle and learns to play defense we have something very special. As for Chester I like him because he plays tough D and handles the ball well, although he is pretty limited offensively at this point, but for a backup PG he is fine. Edit: Boy do I wish that McBride could actually get healthy. I'm starting to think he is going to have feet problems his entire career at UI.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) The Jazz are about to beat the Mavericks tonight. Great win Jazz! Deron is a stud
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) The score announced the starters being Hinrich, Duhon, Nocioni, Songalia, and Chandler.... If the starters can do their job we will dominate them with our 2nd unit with Deng, Gordon, and Sweetney.... we are 4-0 vs the Bobcats cant ruin that now That starting lineup is going to have a very difficult time putting the ball in the basket
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) No player on the Bulls roster excites me... They're still my favorite team, but I'll agree that I'm not all thet excited either. Despite what they did last year, I want to see them do it again now that they have some sorts of expectations before I'll say I'm completely buying into the Bulls. If Tyson Chandler can actually stay healthy I think he will have a huge year on the glass and defensively and that excites me quite a bit. Whether or not he can stay healthy is a huge question though.
  22. Great game in Phoenix. Jason Terry just hit a floater at the buzzer to send it to double OT
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) The NBA has fallen off so much it's not even funny. Usually by now, I am in full Bears/Bulls mode but with the Sox WS and all, I lost interest in the Bulls. I will still watch and still root but the NBA is going down the drain. How it the NBA going down the drain? I just laugh when people make these kind of comments.
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) http://www.madison.com/tct/sports/general/...d=40294&ntpid=2 I think what you have here is One program (Illinois) who got caught, and didnt really do any attempt to cover it up. Then you have another program(Ohio St) who got torched by one of their own in Clarett. The only big problem here is that Clarett has little to no credibility, he is a proven liar, and a silver spooner who expects everything to go his way. Ohio St did an impressive job of damage control, switched the main focus to the improprieties going on in their basketball program, which could be blamed on a coach who was already gone. Troy Smith was suspended for taking $500. He missed a bowl game because of it. Remember that Clarett guy missing essentially the rest of his college career? yeah, thats punishment You should not write this.... .....And follow it with this^^ It makes your argument sound like a sour grapes/rivalry argument. AJ Hawk isnt involved in this at all. It doesnt take a genius to figure out that most, if not all, major programs pay players to come play at their school. The coaches play mad games of hide the ball when the auditors come looking, and sometimes they just cant cover up everything that these 18 year olds with superstar power and fame do with their considerable time off. The difference in these situations I see is that Ohio St came out and admitted their problems(admittedly, after they were about to get 'outed'), and Illinois got caught. Illinois did the investigation and turned themselves in to the NCAA. Mason is no longer a member of the Illini as he was kicked off of the team.
  25. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) 2K series has been rated higher than Live in every video game magazine for the past few years, for whatever that's worth. Thanks, I'll probably go pick that up tomorrow.
