QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) The more I think about it, I guess I can understand. Alot of fans have superstitions and this could be one I suppose... Yep, as for me, I'm wearing my orange hat which was first worn during the Zona game and worn again on Saturday, as well as the Dee Brown jersey, white undershirt and jeans that I have worn for the last two games. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) I could not see anything besides the opening paragraph. The rest was in a premium area. What did you have a problem with? There are more things wrong with that scouting report than you could imagine. It has Felton=to Neitzel when Felton is clearly better. They have Jawad Williams as a SG to name a couple of glearing errors. They also have Marvin Williams as a starter when he isn't one. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) Jesus, how can you be the #1 team in the country all year long and have the #117th class, even with all of the graduations and NBA jumps that are going to happen after this season? To be fair almost every player in the '05 class decided on schools before this season started. I still would have liked to see him bring a better class, although I think Smith and Jackson are going to be very good players and that Weber got very lucky that Jackson was available (that wasn't good recruiting but it worked out well). Weber chose to offer Smith a scholarship before offering guys like Josh Tabb, Jerel McNeal, and even Bobby Frasor, will that work out, who knows? As for Rush, reports are Oklahoma leads and that Illinois is right there.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) I think it would be an atrocity to hold back highschoolers. Lebron, Amare, Dwight Howard have all shown the past year and a half that they are very capable making the jump straight and frankly too many others have as well. I know there are tons of failures, but this guys deserve to play as long as an NBA team is willing to pick them up. I agree. And I guess I don't understand how players lose jobs. It seems to me that you have the same number of players drafted whether or not you have early entries so how are there fewer jobs if guys are allowed to leave earlier. Besides, there is really no reason to put this rule in. HS basketball players have proven they are capable of making the jump to the NBA. This year alone you have Josh Smith, JR Smith, and Dwight Howard all making impacts for their team. And hypothetically, had LeBron had gone to college for 4 years it would have cost him well over 100 million dollars. Lets say he plays till he is 38 regardless of when he leaves. He would lose 4 years of the maximum salary ~60 mil. Then 4 years of endorsments (which are at least 20 for him I believe) and he loses close to $150 million dollars. I know everyone here says that they would take less money if they were athletes but if anyone here says they would turn down over $100 million dollars to go to college they are either a liar or stupid. -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) They're poorly rated on just about every reputable site too. That had nothing to do with me bringing that up. I don't care if those guys were 1,2,3 in his rankings I would still say he sucks.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) ABoz, Do you know anything about any of those individual recruits? Are there any guys that are going to make an immediate impact or make the opposing team tremble? Never use Clark Francis rankings or opinions on players, the guy is an absolute joke. Here is what I would expect from UI's incoming players based on reading quite a bit about each player: Jamar Smith is a 6'3" SG from Peoria. He is a very good shooter, with above average quickness and athleticism. Struggled a bit with injury problems this year, bleeds Orange and Blue, his best game he scored 37 pts on 13-15 shooting including 10-11 from the 3 point line. From what I've read about him he should fit perfectly into the motion offense that Bruce Weber uses. Despite the rankings he had as good if not better of a HS season then any other player from Illinois except for Jon Scheyer and Jerel McNeal (Marquette). Charles Jackson is a 6'8" 270 lb. PF/C from Georgia. He is very strong, has good footwork in the post and has solid quickness. Needs to work quite a bit on his leaping ability. He has played against Korvotney Barber who is a McDonald's AA three times and outplayed him by quite a bit each time. He was offered scholarships to just about any great football school you could think of but decided on basketball instead. He has loads of potential but I wouldn't expect anything next year. By his junior year he could be an absolute monster though. I think he may end up being a very special player and not just because he is coming to Illinois. Chester Frazier is a 6-1" PG who plays for Notre Dame Prep in Maryland. He was his teams best player this year and he is supposed to be a terrific defensive player. He made scout.com's prep second team, where he is among some very good company. I would expect him to be a very solid backup PG who by his junior or senior year could be a good starter. If Dee goes pro and he is our PG next year we are in big trouble though. I think Jackson and Smith have the potential to be All Big 10 time players, Frazier should be a solid role player.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) ESPN guys think he was bumped. Best call would have been no call in that situation. Actually the best call would have been to call one of UNC's two seperate fouls on that play. That call was an absolute joke. -
QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Man this movie is going to be awesome... whats the exact release date? I think I missed it if it was posted in here I'm pretty sure it is May 19th and that trailer was one of the best I have seen. If the movie lives up to the trailer it should be something special.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) I would argue Duke got the toughest draw, slightly over Illinois. Duke gets Kentucky, OU, Syracuse, and Michigan State just in the top 5 seeds. Utah is no cakewalk either. I do think its ridiculous that the overall 1 seed got such a tough draw, having Arizona as a 3 seed in your bracket is just tough to swallow. I disagree completely, Kentucky is not that strong of a team at all. Oklahoma is a decent three seed, MSU isn't really that good of a basketball team, Syracuse is tough though. UNC has arguably the most dangerous team in the tourney in UCONN, one of the better three seeds in Kansas, a very dangerous 5 in Villanova and, Florida as a 4 who is actually playing better than Kentucky right now. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3296418/ I hope this b**** doesn't just hide when he is wrong. This has become the norm from the sports media in this country. Make predictions that have little or no logic behind them and then hope that you are right. If they are right they toot their own horn and say how great they are. If they are wrong they never bring it up again, there is no accountability at all. -

NC State just got screwed. They get fouled shooting a three pointer with about 4 5 seconds to go and no call. Then Chris Paul takes it the length of the floor for the game winner despite the fact he should have been ejected for a sucker punch in the first half. -

Great win for Carolina. The timeout that they were given looked like an absolute gift, I didn't think anyone had control, but since on another play the ball was out of bounds off Nelson and was called off Felton it evened out. -

I'm disappointed but not really upset. In the grand scheme of things this loss means nothing. However, I'm not one of the people who think losing is ever a good thing and I really wanted to see this team go undefeated. Better to lose now than in the tourney. 29-1 ain't bad either. -
Illinois fans, would you be disappointed?
whitesoxfan99 replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This year it would be crushing to not win it all. I'd eventually look back on the season with fond memories but it would be a huge disappointment if they don't win it all. And I'm sure the players and coaches would echo that. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I remember he couldn't shoot a lick as a freshman. I love it when young guys turn a weakness into a strength. Luther's improvement with his jump shot is just as impressive. As a freshman he was good for the occasional dunk, but now he is a complete player. Weber might not be a good recruiter yet, but if this team is an example of players develop under him, Illinois will be just fine. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Well I was wrong about McCants. They still aren't sure what exactly is wrong with him. They are thinking it is Colitis now, but still aren't sure. Probably not going to play against FSU as it stands right now. This is starting to sound like a Jason Giambi type situation. I hope they figure this out pretty quickly. -

I left out home against Georgia Tech, away against Virginia Tech which we lost, I guess you could even throw in home gainst Miami since they have a good chance to make the tournament. He was talking about during the non conference part of the schedule. Reading comprehension is key. -

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) How can you say that the RPI takes a hit because Illinois has played bad Mid-Major Teams. What does that mean? Why doesn't Illinois think thy're good enough to beat a good mid-major? To have your RPI high, you have to play good teams, both from major conferences and mid-majors. You have to play teams like Davidson, Princeton, and Temple to keep your RPI up. You know that you have a good chance of winning those games, but if you don't show up, you could be going home with your tail between your legs. I think the most accurate examples of why the ACC is much better then the Big Ten shows up in November, when the Big ten/ACC Challenge takes place. Wake Forest 73 Illinois 91 Ohio State 73 Clemson 80 Virginia 48 Northwestern 44 North Carolina 70 Indiana 63 Michigan 68 Georgia Tech 99 Maryland 64 Wisconsin 69 Florida State 70 Minnesota 69 Michigan State 74 Duke 81 I rest my case Did you even look at my post and the example of Oklahoma St. who has the 3rd rank SOS vs. Illinois who has the 47th? They have the same amount of top 50 games, Illinois has one more 51-100 games, and they have the same amount of 101-200 games. The only difference is Illinois played a couple extra terrible cupcakes (mainly because of the Las Vegas Tourney) and their SOS is over 40 spots lower. And Princeton as a good team, LMFAO, their 4-6 in the powerhouse Ivy League. Temple was 4-6 in their non conference play. As for the ACC-Big 10 debate, the ACC is better but not by as much as you want to believe. The #1 ACC team struggled to beat a middle of the pack Big 10 team, Duke struggled in Cameron Indoor to beat MSU, a team that Illinois beat fairly easily on the road. And every game except for GT vs. Michigan and Illinois vs. Wake were decided by less than 10 pts. -

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) If you actually believe that the Big Ten is even close to as good even with Michigan and Iowa, then you have completely lost your mind. First off, bot have run crooked programs to put themselves in the positions they are in. 2nd off, the Big Ten isn't even half the conference that the ACC is. If Georgia Tech, NC State, or Maryland was in the Big ten, I guarantee that they would have at least 20 wins by now. Like I said before, it's damn near impossible to win on the road in the ACC. This season in the ACC has been weird because good teams are just beating each other up and it's taken a toll on everyone's records. If these teams were separated from each other, it's obvious everyone's records would be much better. The fact is, is that Illinois' SOS is 48th. Is it fair to Duke to have to play a tough non-conference schedule and then play a brutal conference shedule? As for your 1st paragraph, I posted that res[ect thing a long time ago, this was regarding Duke getting the respect they always get over the years and Illinois wanting more respect. Duke deserves it for what they've done year after year. Illinois hasn't won anything. Georiga Tech just isn't a very good team this year period. They almost lost to UIC (and should have if the officials didn't rob UIC). They lost their only two real non conference games to Gonzaga and then to Kansas who was without Simien. Maryland outside of beating Duke hasn't done a damn thing all year. Their non conference schedule was a joke and their biggest win was against a very mediocre Memphis team and they lost to Wisconsin and George Washington. Plus they have lost to Clemson twice. NC St. just isn't good either. They got hammered by a bad St. Johns team, got hammered by a mediocre West Virginia team struggled big time at home against Purdue and their only decent wins all year are against Georgia Tech and Maryland. SOS is not a very good indicator of how difficult a schedule really is either. Look at Illinois and Ok. St. They have played the same amount of games vs. top 50 teams, Illinois is 7-0 Ok. St. 4-3. Illinois has played one more game against the 51100 ranked teams 8-0 vs. 7-0. They have also played the same amount of games vs. 101-200 ranked teams. However, because Illinois played terrible cupcakes 200+ their SOS falls to the 40s as opposed to Ok. St. who has the 3rd rank SOS. Not to mention, Illinois is 14-0 in road or neutral court games. They have twice as many wins in those games as Duke has. Duke's non conference schedule. Tenn-Martin W Davidson W NC Greensboro W Michigan St. W @ Valpo W Toledo W UIC W Oklahoma W Princeton W Temple W Illinois non conference schedule Delaware St. W Florida A&M W Oakland W Gonzaga (neutral court) W Wake Forest W @Arkansas (not Arkansas true home court admittedly) W Chicago St. W @Georgetown W Oregon (Chicago I'll count this as a home game) W Valpo W Missouri (neutral court) W Longwood (RPI killer) W Northwestern St. (neutral court) W Cincinnati (neutral court) W Anyone who thinks Duke really played a tougher non-conference scheudle based on that is an idiot. -

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) I knew some jealous tarhole fan would bring this up. If you watched you saw Muhammad put his leg over Redick to try andd keep him down. Redick got offended and lost his temper. I thought it was a great call by the refs to just leave it as a double foul since both were at fault. Now I ask the tarhole fan, would you want JJ Redick on your team? Obviously you would. Redick didn't have a great shooting night, but he hit some big 3's and won the game for us with his 2 clutch free throws. He's better then anyone on UNC and everyone knows it. He showed that in their first game and he'll sbow it again on March 6th. It's great that people will still belittle this guy wh is gonna win the ACC Player of the Year. Some of these people need to get a life and start worrying about their own team. All I know is that Duke beat Georgia Tech on the road, and it's because of JJ Redick. Exhibit A as to why everyone hates Duke and their fans.
