  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Who they hell did you want me to vote for? Hillary? Cmon. Trump? Cmon. So I wrote somebody in. That's my right as an American too if they give me these kind of candidates. My selection would have a good health care plan. I will take a lie detector test to prove myself if that's what you all want. You pay for the test and I get 1,000 dollars if I pass the test. No one is denying that you have the right to make stupid decisions.
  2. The playoffs the last two years have been absolutely atrocious. Nothing but blowouts all over the place. People seem to forget about it because of having a great Game 7 of the NBA finals and Games 6 and 7 of the Western Conference finals being pretty good but there were very few competitive games last year. Even in the final that went 7 only game 7 was watchable.
  3. I'm still hoping for Chuck Martin and there is no way we should let South Carolina outbid us but if Chin Coleman is the third assistant I hope his job security is tied to landing Dosunmu. I'm sick of having a "Chicago guy" on staff who brings basically nothing to the table other than trying to appease Chicago when we still don't land any of the top players from the city. Land Dosunmu or hit the road.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Javon Pickett asks for his release from Illinois now. Wow. I can't even pretend to care about that one. Obviously would have loved to have Tilmon come but Pickett was really only offered for his connection to Goodwin and Tilmon.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Sure, but the top 10 schools that produce NBA players are all blue bloods. And if you see that, the TV schedule and the top notch coaches as a recruit its not hard to swing that way. Iron sharpens iron and playing every day for a marquee program appears to increase your odds of making the NBA. At least thats the sell job. Of course that is how it is sold, I'm not arguing otherwise. Those programs produce the most NBA talent because they get the most NBA level talent. You or I could have coached guys like Towns, Rose, Anthony Davis, etc. to be top 5 NBA draft picks. Hell, Johnny Jones probably isn't a better coach than people on this board and Ben Simmons still went #1 playing for him.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Listen, not trying to dance on your tears. It was really disappointing when mizzou thought we legit may have shots at Tatum or blakeney or whomever. But, that paragraph is nonsense. Tilmon's principal is Martin's sister. ANd there is a huge difference in playing for Martin at Cal, 1000 miles from home, and playing for him at Missouri, where his folks could watch him play and ESL is all rooting for him. But the much bigger factor is that with Porter at Missouri every NBA scout will be watching every game - a draw usually reserved for kansas, duke, kentucky, unc. But there's also no guarantee Missouri gets him. This may very be from him seeing Smith suddenly getting recruited by blue bloods and him getting cold feet that he decided too early. If it is Missouri and it happens quickly he is picking to play at a school where he had very little relationship with the head coach. I pretty much guarantee he isn't asking for his release because he simply wants to play for Cuonzo Martin. And this recruitment has been dirty from the beginning including when Illinois won it. Whatever school wins this recruitment is doing it by being in the mud, this shouldn't bother you, no good programs in college basketball are clean (except for maybe Wisconsin because Bo Ryan was just that f***ing good of a coach). But that is what is happening.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) There are certainly other examples, but hedging your bets and going to a blue blood isnt a terrible idea. I could also give tons of examples of kids who were super highly rated who would have been better off not playing at a blue blood for exposure. Look at Chase Jeter and Marques Bolden who were both 5* kids now transferring out of Duke this year. Or look at Cliff Alexander actually who played limited minutes at Kansas his one year there and then leapt to the NBA anyways and wasn't drafted. He very well could have been much better off getting to play 25-30 minutes a game at Illinois or a similar program (well probably not Illinois with Groce) then he was at Kansas in terms of exposure.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) No, money and gifts happen in recruiting. But Illini fans have a particular corner covered where only they lose out recruits to higher offers exclusively. It can't be fickle teenage minds, coach guidance, coaching changes, parental advice, no...it's always they got a bag of money. Because Illinois of course has no rich boosters. If he goes to Missouri, it's because our unbelievable booster class offered him more. I'm sure it is much more likely he decided out of the blue he wanted to play for a coach that he showed zero interest in at his prior job. And if you think this recruitment is clean now or has ever been clean you are kidding yourself.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Let's see...you are going to be a one and done, where do you go? Kentucky? Duke? North Carolina? Kansas? Illinois? They really never had much a shot at Cliff in reality. If your plan is one season, you need as much exposure as possible, going 9-9 in the Big Ten and playing in the NIT doesn't do it. Back in the Flying Illini days, you probably land this type of guy. Not now. That really isn't true at all. Markelle Fultz is going to be a top 3 pick after playing on a horrendous team. Washington was terrible the year before and they had two kids who were one and dones and played in the tourney. Ben Simmons didn't make the NCAA tournament. A kid playing in the Big 10 that is good enough to be a one and done will be regardless of the school he is at. The real reason not to play at Illinois the last several years is that Weber is a mediocre coach and a terrible recruiter and Groce sucks. And Tilmon isn't a 1 and done level talent (although he may think he is).
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) The Illini fan obsession with assuming every player that doesn't choose Illinois is getting paid more is really unparalleled. This was never a clean recruitment. Including when Illinois landed him.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) Tilmon situation is weird as hell It really isn't. Everybody knows exactly what is going on, nothing weird about it. He is taking the opportunity to cut the best deal he can.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Tilmon is such a mess And not nearly good enough to be such a headache. Obviously a really talented player but we aren't talking a truly elite prospect and he wasn't dominant this year at East St. Louis.
  13. Just once I would love to see UNC get f***ed by the refs in a national title game.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:35 PM) Meeks was out of bounds on last jump ball Yep, how did the announcers not notice that and just unbelievable the refs missed that call.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:20 PM) Really think college should go to 6 fouls. 1 or 2 touch fouls can basically change an entire game. More helpful would be refs that aren't completely incompetent. If this game has a great ending I don't want to hear anyone call it a great game or a classic. This game has featured horrendous offense from both teams, some of the worst shots and passes you will ever seen and remarkably terrible officiating. If I didn't have money on it I would have turned it off.
  16. Are you kidding me with that call against Karnowski? College refs are just so f***ing incompetent.
  17. Both teams are playing at a remarkably poor level tonight. Just horrendous basketball. At least the game is close though.
  18. Massive choke job by Arizona. Just absolutely horrendous basketball down the stretch of that game. They didn't have a single good possession in the last 3 minutes of the game.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) Andromeda looks absurdly big and deep but also like a chore and maybe, kinda bad. I had planned on playing this day one but now I'll probably wait. Yep. Sounds like it just isn't good. Bioware has seemingly lost their way. Dragon Age 2 was a mediocre game, Mass Effect 3 had a horrendous ending that took away from the series, and I found Dragon Age Inquisition to be a chore and never even completed it. I won't be picking this one up.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) And if the rumor about them stealing the IL assistant and getting Tilmon too? Wow. That is a top 10 squad instantly. I don't see it even with Tilmon. There is almost no talent on that roster right now. Porter is amazing but the last two #1 picks played for teams that didn't even play in the NCAA tournament so that hardly guarantees anything. Martin had Jaylen Brown, a top 5 NBA draft pick, Ivan Rabb who will be a first round pick this year, plus Jordan Matthews, Tyrone Wallace and Jabari Bird last year and didn't even have a top 25 team. That isn't to say Missouri fans shouldn't be excited if that happens especially with how bad they've been. It just means you are probably looking more at a bubble type team than a contender to really win anything.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) It was Finebaum, really doubt that came from Mizzou/Guarantee that didn't come from mizzou. Those types of rumors usually come from the coach or player. I wanted to be at Missouri so much I turned down another job that offered more money (and no one cares that the offer never actually happened).
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Sounds like Mizzou is about to land Cuonzo Martin for an eye opening 3.5 per. This means either two things (or both): - The prices of coaches are inflated this hiring season due to a number of schools with money to spend (u of I, mizzou, nc st) - Mizzou way over spent on Martin, a good, solid, not spectacular hire now being paid like the best in the game. If that is the actual price that seems like a huge overreach in terms of money. I don't think Illinois was very interested in him and NC State certainly isn't. Plus Cuonzo seemed desperate to get out of Cal since he knows he is leaving a garbage roster in his wake next year. 2 NCAA tournaments in 9 years for 3.5 mil when he was worse than his predecessor at both Tennessee and Cal? Yikes.
  23. This Bulls team is complete trash. Why shouldn't we have traded Butler for the two Nets pick if that was actually on the table again?
  24. People worry way too much about recruits leaving when there is a coaching change. First off Groce is f***ing horrendous and you aren't winning a damn thing with him anyways any one or two recruits don't change that. But in reality most kids don't leave after a coaching change anyways and if the next coach keeps Walker (should definitely be the new coach's decision but as AD you let them know) the signed guys almost certainly all stay and you have a great chance at landing Mark Smith too.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) The Bulls beat good teams. It is what they do. Then they get their asses handed to them by garbage teams. *In the regular season.
