  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) I think they miss the tourney this year and then he's on the hotseat next year. If they don't land some crazy recruiting class and/or make a decent run at the tourney, he'll be gone....or should be. If Thomas is still around, no way he fires both of his major hires. That'd be his death sentence. If he doesn't make the tourney this year he should be fired. Three straight missed tournaments at Illinois is completely unacceptable. He gets a pass on the team 2 years ago because Weber left a garbage roster but there was enough to make the tourney last year and in year 4 you can no longer blame the prior coach.
  2. 2 years ago at this time I really thought Groce was the guy after he landed Black and shortly thereafter Snider after doing a solid job with the 2013 class (which hasn't totally panned out but its usually tough to land elite recruits in that first class) and having a good first season at Illinois. With a few exception pretty much everything since has been a disaster and its hard to see him lasting past this year.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Seen some rumors Coleman-Lands out for season Nothing official yet but yeah, doesn't sound good. It is always great to lose 3 out of your top 8 players before the season even begins. They've gone from a team that would have looked something like: PG: Abrams/JCL/Tate (well this is what I would have done but Groce likely would have still played Tate 10 minutes a game) SG: Nunn/JCL/Jordan SF: Hill/Williams PF: Black/Paul/Finke C: Thorne/Paul/Morgan to: PG: Lewis/Tate (both suck, don't care which plays) SG: Nunn/Jordan SF: Hill/Williams PF: Black/Finke C: Thorne/Morgan The former team isn't a great team but its a very solid team and a tourney team. The latter is going to need Hill, Nunn and Black to all be really damn good consistently to make it as they won't have any depth and the PG position will be a trainwreck.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) Part of his ERA problem was having zero spring training. Using his higher than normal ERA as a defensive failure is incorrect IMO. He has had his games where he has been ripped very hard. When every single one of your starting pitchers has an ERA that is higher (and that in some cases is significantly higher than) their peripherals would indicate it is a pretty damn good sign that your defense is f***ing terrible.
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) Just a wild guess on my part but this sounds like the Yanks put in the claim to make sure Toronto could not have a shot at Robertson. Maybe but the Yankees were pretty active in trying to add a reliever add the non-waiver deadline and apparently made a decent offer for Kimbrel. They wanted to add another really good reliever to Betances and Miller to try to make games in the playoffs 6 innings since their rotation is nothing special.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) So much wrong with this post Yep, while there are no guarantees you have a much better chance of getting an impact player picking in the top 5 than in the 10-15 range. And winning games like this wouldn't bother me much if we were breaking in a lot of young talent but that just isn't the case.
  7. It is too bad this team has been so good in extra innings. If it wasn't for the fluky extra inning record we would be in great shape for a really high draft choice.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Has to be conduct-related right? No way you fire a coach for performance issues 7 days before the first game. It almost definitely has to be related to the university's investigation into the football program. Crazy timing
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Samardzija has been a complete bust. It's getting to the point that I don't think you can risk giving him a 15 million dollar option to re-establish his value. It would be insane not to make him the qualifying offer. Best case is he declines it and if he accepts it you are on the hook for only one more year. Would be remarkably stupid not to make him that offer.

    2015 TV Thread

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) lol, yeah, like anyone would have been super upset if something from that finale had been spoiled for them. Yeah, I actually told my brother beforehand that I wasn't going to be watching the finale live but that I didn't care about spoilers. I wish I would have gone through with dropping the show after episode 3 but I'm fairly obsessive about finishing things so I suffered through the rest of the season. I will not be watching season 3 though unless both the reviews from critics as well as word of mouth from anyone I know who still watches it are both good. This season was a chore to get through.
  11. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) The Sox should've claimed him...SMH. This team is still in contention, why not go for it? No, they are not in contention. Not even close to being in contention actually.
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) It's probably a bad sign when a director rips his own movie on opening weekend. I like FF, but this will probably be the last movie about them, maybe forever. The only reason Fox even made the movie was to keep the rights. It was a bad idea from the start and it looks like the execution was beyond terrible. Hopefully Fox doesn't try to reboot this again in 7 years just to keep the rights and the rights revert back to Marvel.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) It was a mistake, but it didn't cost the White Sox any trophies. Finding a really good catcher who can hit and play defense is a trick GMs pretty much luck into. I actually don't think it was a mistake. The Sox would have still sucked the last few years with Pierzynski (who is a really mediocre player anyways) and they needed to find out if they had anything in Flowers. They don't but at least they know.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) All Marvel character movies need to be done by Marvel/Disney - period. Ideally but at least Fox has made some solid X-Men movies so it doesn't bother me as much that they have the film rights there.
  15. So it appears that Fantastic Four is indeed a trainwreck of epic proportions. Fox really needs to give up on making Fantastic Four movies and let the rights go back to Marvel but I doubt that happens. Hopefully the movie bombs financially in spectacular fashion.
  16. I'm so happy Hahn didn't do something stupid and trade for Cespedes or Upton at the deadline.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) I couldn't care less as long as he bet on his own team. Dude is absolutely a scum bag but he belongs in the HoF imo. Disagree. When you bet as often as he did it could just as easily be a tell to other gamblers when he didn't bet on the Reds.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) I'm watching Trainwreck bit by bit and there's one thing that I found to be unrealistic...there's no way guys would be lining up to bang Amy Schumer. It's not like she's a 10/10. Hell if Bree Larson was the main character, it'd be a little more believable. Eh. It's not like they were making it out to be like all of these guys were falling in love with her (other than Cena and Hader's characters). Not unrealistic at all that she wouldn't have a hard time finding guys at bars to sleep with her.
  19. Fantastic Four is apparently not being screened for critics until the 24 hours before its release which almost certainly means its a piece of s***. Hopefully Fox gives up on the Fantastic Four and the characters revert back to Marvel.
  20. Garcia is a really bad baseball player and we haven't seen anything in the last 2 years to suggest that will ever change.
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Clearly the lack of movement this week shows they do not think we could compete. If they don't think we can compete they should be trading Samardzija.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) Are they hurting for pitching, no, but what they want is another front line guy go to with Clayton / Greinke, yes. At least that is what everyone out in Dodger nation keeps saying. Clearly they have been patient and are unwilling to give up Seager / Urias for what has been moved. Wood has been as good as Samardzija since getting to the majors (if not better) and Latos really isn't all that far behind.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:07 AM) I completely disagree with this right now. Shark is now the best pitcher on the market and the Angels, Yankees, and Dodgers are all sitting their needing pitching. I realize the Dodgers got Latos but what they want is a guy that can help the front of the rotation and the Giants just got Leake. Giants would probably still be interested as well and apparently Houston is still looking to buy too. Cubs have to be desperate for pitching as well (if they are going to give this thing a shot). The Dodgers also got Alex Wood in that deal. They really aren't hurting for pitching now.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) Frankie Montas for 2 months of Justin Upton to hope for a 1 game playoff? Way too much. Yep. Especially where the 1 game playoff is still a long shot. I'm not even sure the Sox shouldn't still be selling but they sure as hell should not be giving up anyone of real value for a rental.
  25. And yet the Cardinals are still eligible for compensation picks each year. So dumb.
