  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Q completely fell apart tonight. Late to the party on this but don't be ridiculous. The Castellanos at bat was bad but giving up a bloop single on a good pitch that was hit incredibly softly and then a seeing eye single is not falling apart. There was nothing hit hard that inning. s*** happens.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 06:14 AM) I hope Pixels is at least watchable because it looks like it could be fun as hell. Just watch the Futurama episode it rips off instead.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) He'll sign, especially with the draft class being way better next season. Agreed. Signability just really isn't that big of a concern anymore for non-HS players. You will still have occasional guys like Appel not sign but it is going to be very rare and Fulmer isn't a guy who will be able to go #1 overall next year like Appel was able to do.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) while Fulmer has a nice sets of tools. but his past signing venture has to come into my mind. he was selected before, somewhere in the teens. he wanted more money than the team who selected was offering. now with the slot allotted money, will that be ok?? who is his advisor??? He wasn't drafted until the 15th round of high school when he didn't sign. There won't be issues signing him.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Return to form? You haven't liked their last couple films? Cars 2 I didn't care for. Brave was fine but I thought it was a clear step down from nearly all their other movies. I really enjoyed Monsters University though (although I wouldn't put it up there with their best).
  6. The reviews for Inside Out are absolutely incredible so far and a lot of people have said it was easily the best film at Cannes. Looks like a return to form for Pixar. I'm excited for that movie coming out in a couple of weeks.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Depends on what camp you are in. Many people would say GarPax valued him at the correct level but Thibs ran him into the ground thus diminishing his value. Meh. Gibson has been pretty consistent from year to year throughout his career including this season. Any diminished trade value is because there is no longer the illusion of upside with Gibson since he is approaching 30.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) And probably guaranteed he's long gone by 8 Yeah, I would have loved to see him fall to the Sox (because I think he is really good with the added bonus that it would be kind of cool for me to have an Illini to cheer for as well) but just doesn't seem possible at this point. There is some risk with picking him because while he has shown in a couple of outings he can maintain his stuff after several innings you don't know if he can do that regularly but it just isn't that easy to find lefties throwing in the mid 90s who have great command and really good secondary stuff.
  9. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Tyler Jay just came into the regional title game in the 6th. His brim is pretty flat. Someone else can have him. Who knows how he will respond when he is actually part of a rotation but he easily held velocity into his 4th inning of work today which was good to see.
  10. So Illinois vs. Vanderbilt Friday. Illinois is good enough to win that series but it is going to be a really tough task.
  11. Hartleb is just a terrible strategic manager. He has clearly done a great job with scouting and player development for Illinois but hitting his best hitter 7th and his use of Tyler Jay this year is just awful. I was hoping come tourney time he would use Jay appropriately and bring him as early as needed to but today is showing that isn't the case.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2015 -> 12:11 AM) It doesn't say head. But I guess their interpretation is any body part. I hope Toronto had some input there. I think 78.5(i) covers this. That rule provides that a goal is disallowed "When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick." http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/rules/201...15-rulebook.pdf
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 15, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) As someone who doesn't watch a lot of college ball, especially Iowa State basketball, I didn't know a whole lot about Hoiberg as a coach. But this is about the most positive article I've seen on him: http://www.denverstiffs.com/2015/3/6/81602...at-fred-hoiberg I like the fact he's a new-school analytics type of coach. He also seems like a really good player's coach. But I'm not sure how well that'll fly in the NBA. And while Iowa State doesn't have a ton of great blue-chip recruits, he did have NBA-level talent players on his teams during his tenure. Although it sounds like he took talented, but troubled prospects and straightened them out one way or another. My biggest concern is that his teams have been consistently bad at the defensive end. I have no idea how that plays out in the NBA though.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) I imagine taj's value took a major hit this year. Last year he looked great after Wiz series. Maybe but his play in the regular season this year was pretty consistent with last year. He had a really good series offensively against the Wizards last year but that was outside the norm and he was also unbelievably terrible on the glass in that series. I doubt teams came away from that series thinking a 29 year old who had always been a solid player was suddenly blossoming (especially when some of his success in that series was based upon him shooting an unsustainably high percentage on jumpers).
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) what sucks is Hinrichs future is in his own hands. He has a player option I may cry if he is back next year and the new coach gives him minutes. He has no business being part of an NBA rotation on a good team anymore unless you like guards who can't create off the dribble, don't shoot, and when they do shoot are inefficient. Oh but I guess he still has rep as a good defender which really isn't the case anymore.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) This was a championship caliber team if healthy. It didn't play like one though late and obviously we missed Pau during the season. The problem is "if healthy" becomes a pretty big caveat given some of the long-term health issues some of these guys have sustained. To me the biggest thing this team was missing was a true point guard. Aaron Brooks is hot garbage (as anything other then a guy you bring in when you need someone to jack up shots and see if he is hot...when he isn't on fire, he is absolutely worthless) and clearly Hinrich is past his prime. Rose you are stuck with and you have to hope that this postseason gave him confidence (even though he finished week) in his knee and he'll finally have an off-season where he can think about basketball and making improvements, which should be huge. Niko will get better and the team will have MLE money to add a quality player which should make us better. You are way too nice to Hinrich. He is hilariously bad at basketball at this point and the fact that Thibs continues to give him decent minutes is a joke. 20 minute yesterday without producing anything positive and that really hasn't been the exception to the rule for him.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 14, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) a lot of back and forth, from what i am hearing on the Score and reading on twitter. There was a story out of Toledo that had some of his ex players confirming some of what Simon said, and there is a lot of circling the wagons by current staff and players. Cvijanovich said they basically went over his head and had doctors remove part of his meniscus so that he could play sooner, and he didnt find out until after the surgery. He also has stated that the Illini employed(i thought he said still employ) a head trainer that isnt certified. Its ugly I don't buy the part about his meniscus at all and if it is true, he should be filing a claim against the surgeon, not the university. The fact is that he admitted that he has talked to lawyers and none of them will take his case which to me indicates that there are a lot of issues with his story because if there was any merit to this I can't imagine he would have a hard time finding a lawyer, particularly with respect to the surgery issue.
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) top pitching ERA in college...... including rp. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/205 so with this list, what are your opinions on Kevin Duchene - sp - Illinois??? He is a pitchability guy. Stuff isn't great but he knows how to pitch and has very good command. I think most people like him somewhere in the 4 to 6 round range.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ May 7, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) at the time, the articles didn't say anything else. were they 3 plus at the beginning? also if the rotation is so stacked, then why are they ranked #11 as of yesterday div 1 standings. the team will always use the #1 pitcher as a starter. They are 40-6-1 and haven't lost since March. They are a really really good team and depending on the ranking you are using I've seen them as high as #3. There have been tons of comments about Jay having multiple plus pitches and stating that Illinois should be using him as a starter. The great unknown with Jay is how his endurance will be and if he can maintain velocity deep into games. Scouts don't seem to have any questions regarding his secondary pitches being good enough for a starter.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) On the other hand, it was remarkable how wide open people were for those shots. If you leave Gasol wide open from 15 feet, it's going in 80% of the time. That's a free throw for him. Rose, his midrange has looked good all year, and it's there for him to shoot. Rose shot 28% on shots between 10-16 feet and 38% on shots from 16-23 feet. He shot poorly all year on shots that weren't at the rim.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) This actually worries me Agreed. He may have hit a couple last night but Rose shooting 20 foot semi-contested jump shots is not a formula for winning basketball games.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) I think the layoff hurt the Cavs a bit. Is it just me or does LeBron seem a bit sluggish on the court these days? Obviously he is bigger and stronger than most, but I think his athleticism has fallen off a bit. MJ was able to weather that storm for quite a while. Maybe it was just Butler's defense. There are a ton of miles on those legs and while he is still the best player in the world, he already isn't the same player as peak LeBron and the gap between him and the rest of the NBA isn't near as large as it was just a couple of years ago. He really should work inside more often. There just aren't a lot of players that can stop him when he makes a concerted effort to post up strong and back a guy to the rim.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 3, 2015 -> 09:35 PM) Conley hurt. Paul hurt. Love hurt. You never know what Rose you're gonna get. I had three teams that could take down GS: Thunder, Spurs and Cavs. We know what happened to the Thunder. Spurs are out. Cavs won't have Love. Something crazy would have to happen for GS not to win this thing. Tony Parker was also clearly not healthy in the Spurs/Clips series which is the main reason the Spurs aren't still playing. Just a ton of key injuries around the league this year impacting the playoffs.
  24. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) I still can't believe this streak Illinois is on, just amazing. 21 straight after sweeping OSU this weekend. Wow
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Noesi deserves more of a chance than Danks. Noesi hasn't exactly been helped by Rodon. It is unclear what Danks has to do to lose his rotation spot at this point. He is f***ing awful and has been for a long time.
