  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Anyone loving the Simpsons 24/7 marathon? Yeah yeah I know it's the cool thing to s*** on the show but every season still has its redeeming qualities. It has been awesome. The first nine or 10 seasons of that show are basically perfection. I've stopped watching it on a weekly basis because it did fall off but even post season 10 there have been some great episodes (and the next few seasons after season 10 were still pretty great).
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) I believe there is some protection on it, but i'm not certain. I also wouldn't expect it to be a high pick. We are talking about the east here and Bosh / Wade / Deng plus the rest of the roster should be able to secure a playoff spot. It is top 10 protected. The Heat will be better than that so the 76ers will get the pick but I'd guess it will probably be right around the 20th pick.
  3. Baez is a mess at the plate. Other than that first series against Colorado he's been absolutely horrible. Not shocking given his age and his strikeout problems in the minors but it is going to be really interesting to see how he adjusts. He has a ton of talent and his power is insane but his approach and plate discipline is really really bad so far.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) Just to curb things a bit. There is a difference between 3 inning games / outings and a typical start. Guys seeing your more times, etc. You can excel out of the pen quicker and easier then you can out of the rotation. Even if he is lights out in the pen in September, there could be many reasons to have him start next year in the minors to continue to actually work on secondary pitches, etc, so that he's capable of excelling deep into games, etc. If the plan is to start him in the minors next year the Sox shouldn't be calling him up in September this year.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Here we go again. Avi's over-aggressiveness going for a triple there might end up hurting, as you never make the 1st or 3rd out at third. He didn't. He made the 2nd out at 3rd.
  6. LOL at Hawk and Stone perpetuating the myth that Beckham has good range.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) Danks has nothing yet again. He's terrible. I doubt anyone was actually interested in acquiring his whole contract but if Hahn had the opportunity to dump his contract he should have done so even if we got nothing in return.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) Then he should go to the SEC. I don't want a dickface coaching ND. I'm not saying I want Charlie Weis back and go 7-5 every year, but there has to be somebody out there who can win without being shady. I'm actually not sure that is possible (well at least winning big) in college football.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) If the conventional wisdom is that all of these guys suck and need to be dumped, why is it assumed that somehow someone else wants them? Dunn would actually be an upgrade for some teams at the DH spot. I'm really surprised he hasn't been moved yet. Beckham on the other hand...
  10. So Dorial Green-Beckham might be eligible at OU this year. That is f***ing disgusting. I hope he blows out both knees.
  11. So Q's statline ends up looking like s*** through pretty much no fault of his own.
  12. One of the rapists is back on the Steubenville football team. Can we just wipe that place off the map? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/11/m..._n_5669903.html
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) I don't know..Angels pretty big winners in that draft. They had Trout at 23rd and took Garret Richards (IIRC) with their supplemental first round pick that same year. For those not familiar with Richards, he's been lights out this year and has nasty stuff (huge fastball and a great curve). Oh and he was beat out by Sale in the final vote, however, both deserved to be all stars, imo. Edit: I just went to your link, Angels hit pretty well on 3 of their first 4 picks in that draft, with their first being a good prospect in the Cards system now (traded this off-season; not a top prospect but has a shot at sticking with a major league squad in the OF) and then nabbing Trout, Skaggs, and Richards. They nailed their 2nd round pick as well as Patrick Corbin who was really good for the Diamondbacks last year.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) There's so much potential in this universe, but when your anchor is an already brutal Superman franchise and Ben Affleck as f***ing Batman, the opportunity to build upon it is already pretty shot. Plus you are banking on a Snyder directed film which is just gross.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) I think he's a much, much better prospect than Almora. I see what you're saying. I still find it kind of hard to agree with. Almora is holding his own in AA, but Baez has been fairly good at a very similar age at a higher level. It is a very small sample size but Almora has been terrible at AA and he wasn't particularly impressive at high A either.
  16. I really wish we had just given Danks and his contract away if anyone was actually willing to take that thing.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) That comp has been around for the last two years, as they compare the bat speed. Still an odd comparison because Sheffield walked a lot and was really hard to strikeout. Baez thus far has had incredibly high K rates in the minors while not walking a whole lot.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) LOL if the White Sox had Baez, everyone on the board would love him. This Cubs thread on the WhiteSox message board is a real treat on a bad day sometimes. Baez has huge upside and is an obviously fantastic prospect but there are legitimate reasons to be skeptical about a guy who has struck out about 30% of his at bats in AAA and doesn't walk all that much. The fact he is so young for AAA makes those issues less of a concern and I would bet on him being a solid major leaguer but guys with those type of issues often really struggle at the major league level. For instance, Adam Dunn never had anywhere near the strikeout problems that Baez did in AAA and he was playing in AAA at the same age as Baez. If Baez also sees his K rate jump from its already incredibly high rate in the majors he won't be a productive hitter.
  19. QUOTE (glangon @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) DFA them all. Either release them or demote them. Utter garbage. Have you seen our pitching staffs at AAA and AA? We sadly have nobody to replace these guys.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) Out of the major transactions Hahn made this offseason, the players have either been great (Abreu/Eaton) or absolutely, positively awful (Davidson, Belisario, Downs, Paulino) I wouldn't describe Paulino or Belisario as major transactions. Downs busted but he had been a very solid and consistent reliever for a long time so it was hard to see this season coming. Davidson has been a complete disaster though.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) I would really doubt it. It isn't like they have someone else to replace him with. If Putnam and Lindstrom come back, Thompson is going to go and you have to think since they refuse to use Rienzo he will go back down as well. Agreed. The bullpen is awful but we really have no pitching prospects in the upper levels of the minors that are worth calling up. There are a lot of intriguing arms in the lower levels but its going to take time to build pitching depth in the organization. There sadly is really no one in AAA or AA that looks like they would be an upgrade over what we have right now.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Action packed and laugh out loud hilarious. Agreed. It was funnier than just about every comedy I've seen in the last few years and the special effects and action were really fun.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) True, but his defense probably added 30 pitches or so to his count today. He would have easily gone 6 innings today if it wasn't for the defense behind him. About the only thing left for Q to improve on is going a little deeper into games but he is still on pace to throw over 200 innings again this year and he's averaging over 6 innings a start so it isn't like pitching deep into games has been a huge problem for him.
  24. Guardians of the Galaxy is really good. Go see it.
