QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 07:46 AM) They'll probably platoon like they did last year with the other coming in as a late inning replacement for Delmonico. Of course, this discussion is moot if Tilson can stay healthy (ok, I couldn't say that with a straight face ). IF Tilson is healthy and there are no further moves: C: Castillo 1B: Abreu 2B: Moncada 3B: Sanchez (can spot start at 2B) SS: Anderson LF: Delmonico CF: Tilson RF: A. Garcia DH: Davidson (some starts at 1B and 3B as well) Bench C Narvaez IF/OF Garcia OF Engel With this set up, they can go with an 8th reliever or carry another bench player (Saladino maybe). I wonder what kind of football player AE could have become with his blend of size, speed and quickness

Which guys not in the top 30 who will be soon. Seby Zavala ? Justin Yurchak ? Luis Gonzalez ? Lets hear some names and the reasons why.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 11:33 AM) its January 17th Touche

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 10:57 AM) I would almost rather let him get everyday ABs in AAA and see if he can develop anything resembling an average hit tool. It would also have the added benefit of keeping his service time down because I think even if he can never hit in the bigs, he could be a valuable piece when we are contending as a late inning defense and baserunning guy with the expanded roster and playoffs. AE is 26 already. fine glove, great speed. 25th man at best. Why such a deep discussion about a very mediocre talent?

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 02:12 PM) The Blackhawks wouldn't partner with the Cubs, because IIRC Wirtz/Reinsdorf have a pretty good partnership due to sharing the UC. The Cubs, will in fact, be on their own because the Hawks and Reinsdorf teams are more in line with each other than they are with the Cubs. Bears really don't matter, because the NFL is purely national broadcasts. I'd love to see this fail spectacularly because they don't have anyone else to put on their channel. It would be pretty funny if the Sox won a couple of world series right when the station launches and the Cubs go down a bit and miss the playoffs.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 08:33 PM) He supposedly has 5/150 waiting for him but doesn't want it. The guy hit 45 HR's in just 119 games. That's a ton of HR's. Him at the GRate would be perfect. Too bad it's doubtful the Sox would really be interested unless that 5/150 is BS . For that kind of power the "where would he play" question shouldn't matter even with Eloy on the horizon. He did hit a lot of homers but so did about 100 other guys. It was a juiced ball year and MLB sometimes de-juices the ball a little after a huge year. As much as I like Yolmer and Leury, it would really surprise me if either one matches their HR totals from 2017. This isn't a slam at JDM. He is a good hitter, but that looks like a career year to me.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 08:29 AM) Maybe we'll see him as the starter in CF at some point. I like luis gonzalez. #3 pick last years draft. Started a little slow but finished strong. Will battle Collins for minor league walk leader. Between gonzalez, polo and basabe it could be a dog fight for center field.

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
zisk replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 05:31 PM) This is how I look at a potential Yelich trade: Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, Jimenez, Robert, Hansen, and Kopech are all off limits. But after that, I think I would be willing to do about any 3 players, plus a lower level prospect. So if they would accept something like: Rutherford, Cease, Dunning and Hickman, I would do that for sure. Dunno about Cease. He might end up being great. I do get your point tho. -
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 10:26 AM) My top 5 Evan Skoung (Winds up being our best C prospect after this year) Luis Gonzalez (Solid #2 hitter potential) Bernardo Flores (Turns out to be our best LH prospect) Jake Burger (I think he will blow up this year and make the top 100 mid-season) Dyaln Cease (yes I know he's a top 10 already but I am predicting that he will make the same sort of crazy jump Kopech did. Predicting he brings he control in while keeping his rediculous K numbers and just dominates the minors and moves into the top 25 prospects by year end) These are my 5 under the radar with their bold predictions attached. I like your list although I don't have a clue about Skoug. All four other guys could really make the Sox into a great team when they join the big club.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
zisk replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) What happens if you raise the minimum rookie scale from $500K to $1 mill? Seems like that's the biggest exploit from the owner's perspective. It wouldn't put an end to extreme spending for high end talent, but the value of WAR seemingly goes up (and thus, teams and analysts justify costs) because a team like the Yankees just paid $500K for 8 WAR for Aaron Judge, or $62,500K/WAR. If rookies begin taking on a larger share, it seems to me, at least, that the costs would be spread out a bit more and we might not be discussing $25 million for a player in Darvish who has had Tommy John surgery and is coming off a 3.5 WAR season. Raising the rookie salary is a good idea IMO. Getting to the majors is incredibly hard and being rewarded for it seems quite fair. It would really help guys who only play 1-3 years in the bigs most of all. These guys take a risk by trying to make it and it would stabilize their futures quite a bit for a small amount the MLB pie. Once in a while a long time minor leaguer makes it up to the show and helps a team win a world series[Pablo Ozuna]. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) The Winter Meetings begin a week from now with the announcement of the Modern Baseball Era voting results. https://baseballhall.org/modern-baseball-era-ballot-2018 Quite a few of these guys I'd have no problem getting in, but I'm partial to Dale Murphy and Alan Trammell. I think murphy was a great player at his peak, but I'm not sure he was productive Long enough to get in. kind of reminds me of dick allen's career. elite numbers but 2-3 years short of some other guys.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) I would think Carlos Gonzalez is a solid option if it seems likely that Garcia is going to be traded. He would not make sense otherwise as I don't expect Jiminez down for long. I think he'd be good to have around in case Avi falls back to his previous form. If Jimenez looks like he's ready in june or july, and Avi is still hitting,he might be a good trade chip. If Gonzalez is out of gas you can pay him the buyout and move on. Delmonico at DH,1B and LF could still get 500 AB's.

White Sox sign CarGo. 1 year 10 million with option. 2 million buyout.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Jeff Passan is giving up his vote because of the Joe Morgan letter. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.yahoo.com/...-144738128.html Joe Morgan is probably one of the 10 greatest players in my lifetime . I heard Harry Caray slam him and say that Ryne Sandberg was a better player. Joe Morgan may be a jerk in some respects, but this is not one of them. He was about the size of the average 8th grader but he did it without the juice. Sammy Sosa would have been just a good player without it. I know just how Joe Morgan feels. I wonder how Barry Bonds would be regarded if he would have fought the urge. He might have gone down in history as one of the best 2-3 players ever instead of a jerk with a huge noggin. I hate to change the subject, but how do you think Joe Morgan felt when a really good player like Pete Rose got the MVP while playing left field When he was playing a gold glove 2nd base and doubling him up in WAR?. That's why Donald Trump types win elections sometimes.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) I like the signing. Very good bat. OK at framing and defense. Now go sign Carlos Gonzalez.

How about Abreu for Carson Kelly?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) A young guy but I am pretty intrigued by the Braves' Sean Newcomb. He has a good arm but really struggles with control. While he could still be a starter, I think he could be something dominant out of the pen. I am hoping for Carlos Gonzalez. LF,DH,RF til Eloy is ready. Then flip him at the deadline if he has a bounce back season.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 04:02 AM) Yep, that's the ticket. Nothing I've read has indicated he's looking for a specific number of at bats. Just that he wants to be a two-way player. I'm not sure 600 is even possible in the AL anyway. If he makes all 32 starts as a pitcher, that's 32 games he will not be in the lineup which leaves him with 130 games to get his at bats. 500-550 is probably what were looking at AL teams being able to offer. The only way he gets 600+ is signing with an NL team. I think he ends up signing with an AL team. Seattle has a lot to offer Ohtani. Ohtani can pitch and hit in the same game . There isn't a rule prohibiting that.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) It's the offseason and people are not posting much which means they'll still get mad at me for bringing this up ... but I've been reading a lot of Ozzie speculation stories -- to the Yankees or Tigers, which are just reporters dreaming to get great-copy Ozzie on board. But it made me think. The guy is still young and has a WS ring and speaks Spanish. This guy, who assuredly has matured, would be perfect for our rebuilt team. Get him to sign a waiver saying a committee of three (Jerry, KW and Hahn) will have the right to fine him $100,000 for any controversial statements on Twitter or on radio or TV that they deem harmful. A second violation would be immediate dismissal. And he's also fined $100,000 if he ever makes the statement, "I'd tell you what I really think but I could get fined $100,000 if I do so." The only risk is that Ozzie will open his mouth in negative ways again. How many times did he truly get in trouble opening his mouth in his Chicago years? Not that many. Miami was the bad one. I know he's probably blackballed by all owners and will never work in baseball again, but the White Sox are a different organization. Allegedly so loyal. If Renteria doesn't work out, why not forgive and bring Ozzie back? Before you freak out and say I'm trolling or whtaever, remember Ozzie HAS BEEN in the news this week. Some stories have been written saying Detroit and NYY should hire him. Stephen A Smith called for Ozzie. It's not like I'm trying to cause trouble. Yes I worship Ozzie Guillen if that's the right word. Yes I want him back. And some of these articles give me a smidge of hope. So in your minds ... would you accept Ozzie back?? Please answer. a.) Yes. b.) No. c.) No Bleeping Way. d.) Yes dammit of course! If this topic angers you, sorry. But he is a part of Sox history and he's still young and available and talented. Ozzie was a fine manager besides his love of the bunt. If we did bring him back it would probably take some of the pressure off our young players. Tell him to leave his stupid son in Miami tho.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) It can exist, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't exist if they played each other more when anecdotal evidence of other rivalries doesn't show any suffering with frequent head to head match ups. I kinda liked it when the leagues were separate. Don't really care to watch the sox playing 8-10 of the teams in the NL.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) I'll start it off with my suggestion...Maikel Franco from the Phillies. They need pitching and have some infield depth. Wouldn't mind throwing a couple of our pitching prospects at the Phillies if they want to unload Franco. Wouldn't include any of Gio, Lopez, Kopech, Cease, or Hanson though. Who are some young names you'd like to see us acquire for relatively cheap this off season? I looked up his stats. How can a guy hit .230 without striking out all the time? I'm not saying that in jest. Franco hits for good power and only strikes out 17% of the time. Has he just been unlucky?

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) The sox are in trouble then. I don't think they will spend spend 155 mil on a pitcher like the cubs did for Lester. The Sox might not have to spend on a pitcher like the Cubs did. They have 2-3 guys in the system who are potentially as good or better than Lester. Kopech and Hansen could turn out to be true Aces. If that happens there won't be a need for a 155 million dollar free agent pitcher. Each rebuild is different.

Avi,Yolmer and Lucas G. were nice surprises this year. Hopefully Leury will be healthier next year while playing like he did this season. Sometimes after a big home run season MLB takes a little juice out of the base the following year, so I would expect a few less from some guys. The defense improved a lot the second half ans I would expect that to continue. As we add more young players next year I'd bet we become more talented and more inconsistent at the same time. 2018 will be fun and 2019 even more so.
