Not really. He hasn’t seen one pitch at the ML level. He could definitely have some swing and miss issues for some time. If he immediately hits like he did in AAA last year, you obviously move him towards the top of the order. But I’m not counting on that to start the season and it’s not a bad idea to put him a spot with less pressure. We actually have the talent and depth to start him towards the bottom of the lineup. I understand that Madrigal hasn’t seen a pitch at the ML level either but they are totally different players with different hit tools. Madrigal will have not have swing and miss issues. He’s a much better lock to replicate what he’s doing in the minors fairly quickly.

Zack Collins is not someone who should be preventing the Sox from acquiring players like Encarnacion, who can easily provide 35+ HRs and a .350 OBP. Everyone who wants to compete next year should not be willing to roll the dice on Collins and potentially have a black hole in the DH position. You can’t survive in the AL that way. Especially with 80 games at Comsikey. A one year deal is not going to cause any harm to the rebuild. Collins should still be given a decent amount of at bats next season and Encarnacion will only be blocking him for a year. It’s Vaughn who pretty much renders Collins uselss.

I see that now. That’s not a bad deal. Still not crazy about 5 years, but the AAV obviously lessens the risk/burden.

The 15 year authority sounds more like a 5 year old child throwing a tantrum because a someone proposed trading for Cubs players. The trade isn’t that bad, even when you tried your hardest to make it look completely one sided.

There is zero reason to believe Eovaldi can be a starter for an entire season. And he’d be worth the gamble on a small contract, just not that monstrosity.

Grandal is primarily C. Yes, he will get some starts at DH. Not sure why that should prevent a team from acquiring at LH power hitter with a .400 OBP. My apologies if I manipulated Vaughn. Would never manipulate him intentionally. One thing you should know about me.

Darvish is a pitcher. Rizzo would be the 1B, Abreu would be the DH. Mostly. Not sure who else you’re worried about besides Vaughn. This will allow them to not rush him to the majors this year. If he forces their hand next year, they can always make a trade. Having good players is a good thing.

That’s why I was warning you. Because how could you know to worry before you knew I existed?

Hi, old poster. I used to post at Whitesoxinteractive before it even became that, but under a different name. Been reading her for the last few years during the offseason since no one posts over at WSI anymore. In regards to the nonsense, the White Sox get a real LH hitter with massive power and ridiculous OBP skills. They will compete the next two years after this trade and he would be a huge part of it. Darvish has some risk tied to him due to his weird struggles and inconsistencies. But he completely dominated the second half. His stuff is arguably the best in baseball. For his career, he has struck out more players per 9 than any other SP in the history of MLB. So while he might have his struggles, he might also be a completely dominant ace for the next four seasons. His contract isn’t even that bad.

I’m every kind of guy. Be worried.

It’s not a perfect science as it doesn’t account for things like deception. It generally is useful information, but it doesn’t favor Sale who has the highest SO/BB ratio in MLB history, and is tied for highest SO/9 in MLB history. I mostly posted it to show the massive drop in velocity per Caulfield’s request, but the steady decline in overall QOPA year after year has to be very concerning.

Thanks, dawg. So you can see not only is his overall pitch quality declining, his velocity percentile has dropped dramatically. Went from one of the hardest throwers in the league to the middle of the pack. I was all for this trade when I thought we could get Benintendi as well. Insert Price after Giolito and then Keuchel at the back end. Then think about a 1-2 of Benintendi and Madrigal with Mazara getting DH at bats at the bottom of the order and it looks really really nice on paper. But I’m in denial about Price’s health severly limiting his innings and talent. I need to keep looking at this.

Sure. Trading everyone one of our elite young players is the exact equivalent of what I proposed. And uhh yeah totally putting that Florida Marlins plan on the table. I’m just that kind of guy.

The Cubs will make any trade they feel helps their organization and/or fits their plan. Not sure why you would think that does little to help in our window. That’s two massive impact players for the next two years and one for the next four years. It’s more of an impact than any rumor out there.

Madrigal, Cease, Basabe (Collins?) for Darvish and Rizzo. Anyone think we could get close on something like this? I’d rather do something like Madrigal, Leury, Reynaldo, Collins but I don’t think the Cubs would trade Darvish with Reynaldo as the best SP coming back. Although, I do belive this option could fill more holes on their current roster. They’d still be able to compete by singing a guy like Keuchel to somehwat replace Darvish while adding the talented young SP from the Sox who would probably be an asset next season. Madrigal could give them their 2B and top of the order hitter for the next six years. Collins could get time behind the plate and 1B to unrealistically but still possibly come close to replacing Rizzo’s power. At worst, he will give them power and walks from the left side. Leury could also be a very nice piece next season as he can literally play all over the field and their current CF is awful across the board. The big thing for Cubs would be clearing 40mil over the next two years by taking on like 3mil in salary while filling holes on the current roster and replenishing the organization with young talent.

I’m not a Hahn apologist, but I’d love to see what he could do with an owner who will not only support him, but back the fuck off in baseball decisions. He just can’t handle someone else making decisions with his limited money allotments. Granted, Hahn could make better use of his money like the A’s or Rays, but they are not supposed to be appear as a small market team. Reinsdorf probably thinks he’s making splashes with Melky Cabrera. This goes back to him needing to take a back seat in baseball decisions. Think about how hard it must be for Hahn to negotiate big contracts with player’s agents while he’s probably simultaneously negotiating harder with Reinsdorf. I think Hahn is an intelligent guy with a good modern baseball mind. So far, I like what he’s done during this rebuild so I’m going to hold off judgement until he completes it. Hopefully they are able to acquire some talent this offseason. I really doubt Hahn set this team up with so much financial flexibility for this stage of the rebuild if he didn’t have expectations to be able to spend this money. Anyways, they really need to compete next season. They can’t waste a year of this much young talent on the ML team.

This trade really isn’t that big of deal. It doesn’t mean anything besides the Sox saw an opportunity to buy low on potential that worst case scenario can fill two needs.

I guess he could have, but not sure why anyone thinks he needs to. If the Sox sign Ozuna, we will know soon enough. It makes more sense for them to not want anyone to know until the deal is done. I’m sure Reinsdorf doesn’t give a shit about Heyman and maybe he was just having some fun with it. Plus, the only thing being said is that a deal is not finalized, which appears to be true. They’ve been burned enough with big FA signings heavily talked about in the media the last two off seasons.
