People here are indeed quick to give up on players. Check out the Moncada thread, but Lopez always had question marks on his ability to stick as a starter. Turning him into a reliever is not giving up on him, it‘s trying to maximize his value. Plenty of failed starters turned into lights out relievers.

He turned Nicky Delmonico from a clown show in LF to at least serviceable, so there is that I guess.

These problems and logjams tend to sort themselves out. I couldn’t care less if our next 1B/DH is a first rounder or a minor league free agent like Mercedes.

Just sign a front of the rotation guy and a decent #4-5 and that rotation for next year is looking good.
