  1. If he was from outside the organization, he could also be a lot more assertive in public/interviews about "We are going to change a lot of things" and "Things are going to be different." Even if its bullshit, that's the type of stuff people say when they get a GM job and fans like to hear it. I bet there is some reluctance to do that since he was here, knows the guys he'd be indirectly trashing, and maybe even liked them/feels gratitude to them for hiring him.
  2. I'll add this... I also don't know what was happening behind closed doors. What if Getz was on the losing (but right) side of 80% of the internal discussions during his time here? I don't know enough about what he was doing day to day to say with confidence that he sucks. I have enough evidence to be pretty sure that Hahn and Kenny sucked the last decade.
  3. Reinsdorf liked him and knew who he was. haha. I would have loved it if they did a full exhaustive search.... but just because I didn't agree with the way he got the job... or that he got the job at all (!), I'm not going to waste calories trying to bash everything the guy does to prove I was right. I actually like some of the things he's done since he took over. Its pretty obvious that the plan this season was to find pitching and field a lineup of guys who can defend, and hope the three hurt morons finally stayed healthy. I don't believe he was dumb enough to think the team was going to be good. So far, the pitching has been ok. By the end of the year, I think we'll have a decent idea of our staff moving forward. They'll bring up Montgomery and Ramos and we can see how they look in addition to a guy like Fletcher.
  4. I feel like the Getz thing is somewhere in the middle... and also kind of unknowable. If you made a list of any organization's prospects, there are going to be a ton of "failures." That's just how it works across the league. Did the Sox produce less major league talent than the rest of the MLB during that time? I don't know but I'm guessing they probably did. Ok... how much of that is Getz's fault? I'm not sure. He was the farm director but who knows what type of decision-making power he had. When he tried to implement something, was he overruled? Everyone seems to understand that JR, KW, and TLR got their way when it came to Hahn's authority. Am I to believe that JR, KW, TLR, and Hahn all gave Getz complete control and approved every suggestion? Seems unlikely. Furthermore, even if Getz had more power and influence than we think he did, he still wasn't the one picking the players. I'm not going to pretend I know enough about amateur baseball to know which failures are attributable to him and which failures are on the player, GM, scouting dept, etc. I bet most people here share my ignorance. The people who are the loudest in attacking Getz's resume are all fans on the outside and AJ Pierzynski... and one episode of his podcast, AJ seemed confused and implying Getz was in charge of drafts... which was obviously not the case. Other than that, it seems like a lot of the analysts and people connected to mlb have more respect for him than your typical SoxTalk poster or commenter under SoxMachine tweet. Where I think WestEddy is right is that there are a number of people who are just salty and ignoring actual successes on his resume. You can say he didn't deserve the job and still acknowledge they produced some major league talent when he was around. I think its unfair and kind of tiring to say he deserves all the blame for the failures but no recognition for Robert or depth pieces while trashing him for something relatively insignificant like sending Colas back down. Again... a lot of hyperventilating happening and I think its just residual anger from 2022-23.
  5. Lol.... Jose Valentin would probably be our best player by a wide margin with Robert out.
  6. Not to keep this argument going but I offered @WhiteSox2023 a ban bet in another thread when he said they'd lose 120 games (I offered him 118 I think?) and he changed the subject immediately after accusing me of being related to Jerry Reinsdorf. I'll still take that bet....
  7. Oh s%*#, you're right. He sure does get hurt a lot. How come no one talks about this? Thanks for noticing.
  8. Again.... what was the correct move? Those guys are comically injury prone. No one disagrees. Would you have cut them? That wasn't happening. This team was never going to be good this year. You are acting like they were on the verge of being good if only Getz made different decisions. This was always going to be a lost year.... whether that meant 57 wins or 72 wins. It doesn't matter. Blame Getz for actual stuff he had control over.
  9. So what's the solution? You were angry that they dropped Jose Rodriguez to keep older guys. You imply that bringing up Colas and Sosa is some failure. There was no way anyone was taking Moncada or Eloy this year. Did you want more old guys on the roster to be available when Eloy and Moncada got hurt again?
  10. Lol... come on. Did I miss news where this is career ending injury? If it keeps happening, sure.
  11. Yup. I'm Jerry's nephew. You can tell because I'm so positive and saying stuff like they will win 60-something games. If you don't take my bet, you love my uncle.
  12. Ban bet o/u at 118 loses. Take it or else you are just some cheerleader who loves Reinsdorf and Getz
  13. No. I have like 400 posts vs your 37,000.
  14. True. I originally thought they may win 70ish games and now it’s probably in the 60s. Both outcomes are bad. I watched the least amount of baseball in my life last year and probably won’t watch much more this year. It sucks… but 1) they aren’t going to win less than 40 games. 2) no one thought they’d be good. Anyone who thinks the team will play at a 1-7 clip the entire year has never watched baseball.
  15. They are bad. I knew they’d be bad. I’m not pouting and pretending that Jose Rodriguez is a future stud and that a 1-7 record is some newsworthy occurrence. It’s a 162 game season and at least half the lineup can’t hit. They’ll have stretches like this and they’ll luck into a few small winning streaks and end up where most everyone thought they’d end up. People on this site are claiming the team won’t win 40 games. It’s a pathetic circle jerk of misery.
  16. And the Cleveland Guardians are on pace for 126-36. Sox fans have turned into little whiny bitches. They are a bad team. This isn’t some shock. Crying about Jose Rodriguez getting DFA’d like they gave up Mike Trout, flipping out over the record a week into the season. Did anyone expect them to be 7-1?
  17. Also when they removed the Goose from the RF concourse
  18. lol... Jacob May, who my dad would accidently call Carlos Lee who my dad would accidently call Carlos May.
  19. I don't understand why the general consensus opinion of the Cease trade on Soxtalk (and only Soxtalk), that you and the experts disagree with, is evidence of the trade being a "headscratcher." Give yourself more credit! Your thoughts on the trade align with the pros haha. Maybe I have to read more about Jose Rodriguez. Before this thread, I didn't realize people thought so highly of him.
  20. 1. The professionals he is talking about broadcast and publish their thoughts to the public. I don't remember any expert trashing the deal. 2. I mean more goes into roster decisions than just "age." Do you think all rebuilding teams just decide who to drop based on date of birth? If this team was good and everyone was happy, I don't think anyone would care about dropping Jose Rodriguez outside of someone like Josh Nelson. 3. I think its safe to say Fletcher is more likely to be a good major leaguer than Jose Rodriguez.
  21. Just like people are not calling Crochet an ace after 2 starts, I'm not going to make any determination on Dom Fletcher on April 4. If he turns out to be bad, that's on Getz and the front office. It was a baseball trade. They targeted a guy they liked and got him. I don't remember Hahn ever really doing that. It was like when KW went and got "The Carlos Quentin." The idea is that this guy is someone who can be a starting OFer for the team in the future. Are they correct? Who knows. But I wouldn't call it a headscratcher. I see the thought process. The Cease deal is also early to judge. You say an overwhelming majority feels it was a bad return. Outside of Soxtalk and twitter, I don't know if I agree. Guys like Jim Callis all seem to think it was fair.
  22. Ok, so what's your implication? That Getz is so loyal to (obsessed with?) the Kansas City Royals that he brought a guy in to spring training (and then cut) at the expense of deserving players (that he also failed to develop into viable MLBers) because he wanted to spend more time with a former teammate for a couple weeks? Maybe. It could also be that Moustakas was a guy they took a no-risk chance to bring in to see if he had anything left and it didn't work out. You know, like what happens every spring with every team.
  23. I think we'd hear a lot of "Barfield worked for Arizona and LaRussa worked for Arizona so he's essentially an internal hire." And then Barfield would have hired some nerd from the Diamondbacks to negotiate contracts and calculate budgets and people would cite him as proof of more of the same.
