  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 02:52 AM) I didn't mean that she couldn't fend him off, I mean that is was a 10 minute long struggle. That's a LONG time to be jostling with someone. It obviously doesn't change the story/outcome, but it was likely more like 1-3 minutes and potentially exaggerating some details will lead the defense/Sano's team to say she exaggerated other things too. I think everyone would understand that if she had a terrifying 2-3 minute fight with him, that it probably felt like an hour.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) And the Orioles are looking for more? For a RENTAL? What idiots. That is one hell of a return. I'm going to guess that Baltimore would view it as more than a rental, with Machado likely resigning with the Red Sox. They sure have the need and the money. Also there's the 'expect an overpay' if you deal within the division. They already showed great hesitancy to trade him to NYY, so I would imagine the Red Sox would be viewed similarly.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) I'm talking about the shape that team is currently in and the direction it's heading. SF has some bad contracts and no farm. Their fans are in for a long rebuild when it happens. That statement could be made about the Blackhawks. I think we all agree that whatever happens with the Hawks, it was worth it.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) And that is one, horrible trade for the White Sox. You are giving up literally 2 of the 3 top players in the organization, maybe three if you are a Lopez guy. And two all stars. This trade is horrifically bad if you are a White Sox fan. The Angels should take it in a heartbeat. And the Sox can pay Trout 30 million a year the next 3 years then see him walk. I can't speak for the original poster. But I think we all know the Sox can't realistically trade for Trout and have it be a good deal for Chicago. The original poster said just for fun.... The only kind of team that could trade for him and have it work out well is an already playoff contending type team that somehow still has a loaded system. Yankees, Dodgers, Astros...that's probably about it.
  5. His first half last year was medicore at best, bad at worst. He was one of the better pitchers in baseball after the all-star break if I remember right. That was interrupted by a trip to the DL late in the year. And he pitched well in the playoffs. Maybe in the grand scheme of things he was trending the wrong way, but speaking of last year only, he trended in a good direction.
  6. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) Man, If Arrieta is anywhere near the projected contract of 100 million I'd be interested in making a run at him. Kind of like what the Cubs did when they signed Lester. Everyone thought it was a year too early but it turned out to work in their favor.. 100 million for Arrieta seems very cheap.. Especially since Samardzija got 90 million after his tragic year with us. I thought about this at the beginning of free agency as well. If there are no big takers, he might be worth biting on if the price is reasonable. And that's possible, with many of the big spending teams trying to stay under the luxury cap this year, in preparation for next year. He's supposed to be a young 32 in terms of innings. Also I think there's a big hole on the team right now, where guys like Giolito, Kopech and company won't have a big mentor on the team when they come up, or in spring training. Maybe Shields can fill that role, but someone who can more lead by example sure wouldn't hurt.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 25, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) I don't either. It's possible that Pittsburgh just wants another position as a headliner. If if they trade McCutchen, they'd still have Polanco/Marte/Meadows. I could see them wanting pitching and Miguel Andujar from NY. It does make sense though that the Sox would be in as a 3 way type deal possibly. I truly think Hahn probably "checked" in because it's his job. Something like this could work possibly though. Pittsbugh Gets: Reynaldo Lopez, Justus Sheffield, 2 more prospects NY Gets: Gerrit Cole White Sox Get: Clint Frazier To each his own, but I'd rather keep Lopez over Frazier.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 07:12 PM) I think it's Frazier's lofty ceiling that had him ranked so high. The talent is there and he's young. Cole's stats weren't very impressive last year in the NL with almost half the teams rebuilding. How well do Cole's numbers translate to the AL and in the ALE division? I wouldn't be willing to pay too high of a price for Cole. I'm not going to pretend that I've followed his minor league career all that closely. But a glance at his stats shows he hasn't really torn any league up. And that the Yankees seem to want to dump him so fast is another cause for concern. Just like we started hearing the Yankees were down on Rutherford right before the Sox traded for him...the same things started getting said about Frazier when the season ended. And sure enough they're trying to move him now. As for Cole, I don't think the NL is any weaker than the AL. Yes there's probably more bad teams, but there's also more good teams. Where the AL is kind of a league-wide mediocrity, instead of the extreme goods and bads. Anyway, Cole had 200+ innings pitched and I think he's worth a gamble that he could return to better form this coming season. It's not like he's going to generate a Quintana or Sale return.
  9. Any trade for Trout would completely ruin the rebuild. The Sox would be in even worse shape than they were before they traded Sale and Quintana.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) I just don't see how Frazier's value dropped so much that he's not a headliner for Cole. What are the reasons for Frazier's drop in value because I'm not seeing it? For me it's more a question of why his value was ever high in the first place? But regardless, Cole has 2 years of control left and has shown be can be a TOR starter. I think his value is massive to a contending team.
  11. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) Hostetler said that? I really hope he is not talking about Beer. Yeah he said in to the Athletic. Here's the quote: JF: Guys who are near the top of the mock drafts — Brady Singer, Nick Madrigal — at this point you have years of reports on them. How is it that their ranking and these mock drafts can change so much over the next six months when everyone already knows so much about them? Hostetler: That’s a great question that we continue to ask ourselves over and over. I think while it may seem on the outside like it changes so much in that six-month frame, really inside it doesn’t change as much as it may look. We might not have a certain player up where some of the services have them, or we might have a guy who is lower than all these places have them, and we do, it’s one where I was just talking to Rick [Hahn] about him a minute ago, that is nowhere to be found in the top-20 on these services, where if right now we were picking today, would be in consideration at No. 4. I think that sometimes on the outside it looks a little bit more volatile than what it actually is. It’s hard because when you’re investing five, six, seven million dollars on a certain player, you’ve got to be careful how much stock you put into the last look. Also, the first look. You’ve got to get out of your mind maybe what you’ve seen in the past if he just is continuing not to show it. https://theathletic.com/187901/2017/12/18/q...-hes-ever-seen/
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Frazier is a good headliner for a pitcher such as Cole. Sale netted the #1 overall prospect for a headliner, do you really think Cole should net the #2 overall prospect? I don't. Oh damn, forgot about the Maddon thing. Good call dude. That would be hilarious if STL traded for Archer. Agree about Hahn. Rebuilds are the perfect time to explore all possibilities and Hahn is doing just that. Torres is overpayment....Frazier is underpayment. All I'm saying is I understand (and agree) if Pittsburgh says nah to Clint Frazier.
  13. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) Perhaps we could give them one... which of our prospects would be more enticing for Pittsburg and would justify us trading for Frazier and Sheffield from NY? I'm not sure where Clint Frazier's value is now. I know he was a fringe top 20 prospect, but I think that's fallen a good deal, whether fair or not. I don't think I'd give up any prospects above Cease. So...how about: To NYY: Cole To Pittsburgh: Sheffield, Dylan Cease + lower lottery ticket prospect from NYY To CWS: Clint Frazier
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 12:31 AM) Supposedly the Yanks insist on a package starting with Clint Frazier and the Pirates want Torres. If that's true Pitt can keep Cole because Pitt's asking price will probably begin with Jimenez from the Sox. Still yet, nothing wrong with kicking the tires. Well I certainly don't blame Pittsburgh for wanting a better headliner than Clint Frazier.
  15. He followed that tweeet up with: @MaxWildstein Had heard the #WhiteSox have called about basically every player that’s on trading block, just for due diligence. So, it looks like nothing. Would be hard to imagine the Sox getting involved unless it somehow turned in to a 3way trade
