Yeah, that doesn't automatically mean he will hit .300. Wasn't Madrigal's calling card his hit tool? And I don't mean to rag on him, just demonstrating that it isn't always that easy.
-
Not sure where you got the numbers, but I was actually just thinking, if his hit tool fades a bit, Khris Davis may be a solid comp, and Davis is .248/.320/.518 for his career.
-
There were 25 guys that hit 30 HRS last season. Obviously fewer than 1 per team. There were only 4 that did it while hitting .300 or higher; JD, Trout, Yelich and Betts. If the Sox think he is a 30/300 guy, it would be insane to pass on that.
-
I don't really buy this logic. He has to hit to have value yes. But at 4 in the draft, Abrams would have to hit. Or Bleday. Of Witt. If they draft Abrams and he doesn't hit, but is good with the glove, it is still a wasted pick. You can get good fielding bad hitting infielders a dime a dozen (Yolmer?) If they draft Bleday, and he doesn't mash, you have what? A bad 4th OFer? Waste of a pick. All of these guys need to hit to be worth it. Getting a utility IF or backup OFer with this pick is just as much of a disaster as Vaughn being a AAA player. They all need to hit.

This still drives me crazy. The past few years, I have a bigger problem with how the Sox handle rounds 2-6 (or so) than what they do in the first round.
-
Not outside the MLB box, but it is outside the typical White Sox thinking box.
-
They were probably hoping the Royals would retire the Sox so they could just call the game.
-
That is quite the upside. And I would guess far less than a 1% probability.

Hahah. Probably Ruscthman.

Fair enough.

or both.

Seby Zavala promoted to Chicago; Castillo to IL

I think both of these things are fairly understood aren't they? -
While true, this isn't exactly high praise. He, isn't very good, as MLB players go.

Rainy Day Poll: Evaluate the Big 3 Trades
turnin' two replied to gusguyman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wasn't the first, but I voted there. The question was, if I read it correctly, which provides the most value, not the best players. That trade could net the Sox 3 starting pitchers in the majors, for an injury prone, singles hitting RF. I hadn't even looked at the WAR chart, but upon seeing it, Reylo and Gio have provided more WAR than Eaton already. Gio looks like a new man that could feature prominently in the rotation (way to go Parkman! Your faith pulled him through!). Reynaldo has been a bit touch and go, but his last 6 starts after a horrible start have yielded a 3.19 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and 10.1 K/9. Both of these guys could be major parts of the next good Sox team. Could Eloy and Cease be better? Yes, and I hope they are. Are Moncada and Kopech more important pieces? Yeah they are. but if Gio and Lopez are 3&4 in the rotation after Kopech and Cease, and maybe Dunning as the 5, well I think the Sox will have received more value on that trade. They didn't trade a Cy Young caliber possible HOFer for Gio, Lopez and Dunning. They did for Moncada and Kopech. They didn't trade a 200 inning a year, former All Star workhorse. They traded a completely replaceable OFer. Since the trade, Eaton has 671 PA. I'd take the possibility of 1 MLB SP for that. 2 is a homerun. The prospect of 3? That, in my opinion, is the most value they got back. Cmon, that trade, could realistically fill out 3/5 of an MLB rotation. That is pretty amazing. For Adam Eaton. What they got, in light of what they traded, that is the most value. -
Because this organization has no idea how to properly develop players. They went from insanely rushing guys to moving glacially with them in one season.
-
Did someone make that comp? I missed that one.

Thanks. It seems I would have to agree with Law there. I don't see why he would go at a big discount, or one at all.

Toronto (18-25) v. Chicago (20-23) - 5/18/19 - 1:10 PM

Why is there an assumption that Abrams would result in significant savings? I don't see it. He is being mocked anywhere between 3-6. That doesn't seem like a discount signing to me.
-
I disagree, let him get his swing back, build his confidence up for a few games, then get him back up here. I don't think there is any reason to rush anything. In fact, I wish they were just DH-ing him, and hope they would here as well for a bit.
-
I imagine most of his homers will be doubles.
-
Well crap. I guess I didn't realize that greed was a more recent addition to humanity. That really sucks.
-
I don't understand why any fan would ever want a strike.
-
Yeah, that is fair and you are probably right. I guess it was just in my head, I would be much more excited for 1-2. Then any of Vaughn, Abrams, Bishop, Bleday would all be about the same in terms of excitement.

Ok, sorry, maybe I worded that incorrectly. Obviously it needs to be the exact right situation. There needs to be the right guy on 3rd. It needs to be the right guy with the bat in his hands. It needs to be executed. Nearly perfectly. If it is a good bunt (and good bunters are in short supply in the MLB right now), and a good runner, it is incredibly difficult on the defense to get the runner out at home.
