I don't think that matters much at all, especially for baseball. There are plenty of stars that went to smaller schools in smaller conferences. For example, a school like Stetson has had Kluber and deGrom. Not that it doesn't matter at all, but it seems to matter far less for baseball than, say basketball.

Great info! Thanks!

Anyone see that pitcher pump his fist after K'ing Yoan? I think Abreu should throw his bat at him next inning. Stuff like that fist pump and scream has no place in this game. -

That's great! And I completely agree. What sucks most about TA getting tossed is that he probably would have stolen 2nd and 3rd. -
5IP, 7H, 4ER, 1BB 6K. 93 pitches That doesn't look like "he is back" to me.

Herrera may be the next most attractive guy. -
Anyone else want to claim Swihart / DFA Castillo

I have no affinity for Castillo, and wouldn't be against this, but I can't see it happening due to the money he is owed. -

Well... Kimbrel... -
Birmingham is a complete disaster at this point.

This would be a small miracle in its own right.

Watching the coverage, and listening to the crowds singing is so cool, chilling and so heartbreaking at the same time. At least it seems like now, the stone bell towers will be saved. That is something at least.

Great, nice opinion. You are free to think that. Did you notice, the top his page, where it say HALL OF FAME in that gold banner? That says that your opinion is factually incorrect. What you think here doesn't matter anymore. His career WAR, peak WAR, and JAWS all put him above average as a HOF player. It is a baseball fact, that Tim Raines is a Hall of Famer.

Just a tragedy. To think what this Cathedral has survived. 900 years of wear. Countless wars, Nazi occupation. I was able to go there a couple of years ago, and I was just in awe. It was a very moving experience for me. Aside from being a Cathedral, the building, and all that made it were works of art. Notre Dame is a testament to humanity. This is heartbreaking for me. I'm sad that my kids won't be able to have the experience that I did.

I have hated their last couple 2nd rounders. I would have taken different guys in the first round, but as you said, I understand those, and I don't have all the info they do, so those are fine. What I haven't liked about their second rounders is taking guys with the similar profiles. With Burger they took Sheets. Safe college bat. Corner IF, big power, good eye. Not a lot of project-able talent left. Same thing last year. Madrigal was advanced college bat, great bat to ball skills, limited power. Walker, basically the same offensive profile. They need to diversify their thinking. If you take the safe college bat with the first pick, take the HS bat or pitcher with the 2nd pick. Balance things out. If you always take the low risk option, you will never hit it big. Not that they should always take that high risk player either, you need a balance. The Sox play not to lose. And it results in them losing. They stick their money in the mattress because the market is too risky. A guy like Jeremiah Jackson, or even the much discussed Alek Thomas would have been much better picks (even forgetting they may be suppressing Walker league-wise because of too many other OFers at the same level), just because they would have added more upside to the system. They probably look back at Hawkins and Barnum and say --- "ugh that was terrible, let's not do that again." but they have done it again. Taking those guys wasn't terrible, but using 2 guys with the same flaws and the same downside is what killed them. Take a HS kid. High in the draft. Not exclusively, but don't count them out just because they are HS kids either. That pushes what is probably the most premium talent off to the side because of a flawed philosophy.

Yeah. Obviously. But the narrative of "this guy is newer to baseball, so he will get even better than other guys because now he is more focused" seems like complete hogwash to me, and I don't know of any evidence to support it. If you are going to draft him, draft him because of what kind of player he is and projects to be. If you are expecting a jump from ____/`````` just because he isn't playing football anymore, that seems like a wishing and hoping more than scouting, evaluation and planning.

Joe Borchard, Josh Fields, Jared Mitchell, Spencer Adams, Trayce Thompson, Trey Michaelczewski... I'm sure there are more.
-
Why does this keep being brought up as if it is true? Haven't the Sox ( and plenty of other teams) drafted plenty of guys with this thought process that didn't ever get better at an accelerated rate, or at all for that matter?

Anyone see that play Manny made yesterday? Holy moly.
-
A WHIP of 2? An ERA of 7.2? That is completely dreadful. He gutted it out yeah, but he was bad. He made it 5. Against a depleted Yankee team in terrible conditions. But it doesn't look like a turning point. If the Sox were a real team right now, this would not even be somewhat almost nearly acceptable. But seeing as they're not maybe you are right. There is no reason to not hope on him becoming a servicable starter.

When 5 IP, 6h 4BB and 6R, 4ER is improvement, you've already eaten the crap sandwich.

This is like saying that Robert has been ok.
