I think this is spot on. The frustration isn't necessarily about Brennan in particular, but in the recent past, the Sox always seem to keep the wrong guys, and let the wrong guys go.
-
Maybe not, but I'm not sure why you would expect him to be something different than he has always been. He didn't hit for power in college, To expect that he will magically do so now seems like no more than wishful thinking. Madrigal, at the time was the safest pick. The best bet to become a solid major leaguer. In my opinion, he was not picked because of a superstar, MVP type ceiling. He was picked because he had the perceived floor of an everyday MLB 2B.

Not every player needs to fit a mold. If he hits, steals bases, and plays really good defense, he will bring value to the team even if he only hit singles. There should be enough power on the team to play where you can support a guy that is a singles hitter.
-
I wonder why they don't DH him on days like today.
-
I think I agree with you. Though my personal preference has moved to Witt in the last couple weeks. I think he is more what the system needs.
-
Good grief do they need it. Birmingham has been a complete black hole offensively.
-
I was at his start last Friday, I would say the game was in the low 50s, at least while he was still in.

I wish Giolito had as much confidence in himself as you do.

April 10 Gamethread 1:10pm first pitch
turnin' two replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2019 Season in Review
Can it be November please. This pitching in embarrassing. Yikes. When was the last time a guy went 5? -
Looking like a runaway for worst contract ever. Eat your heart out Ellsbury.
-
Well at least he wasn't completely redundant with guys and talent already in the system.
-
What am I missing, box score looks.like he didn't play? https://www.milb.com/gameday/bulls-vs-knights/2019/04/07/575578#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=575578 Sorry for maybe the worst question I've asked... don't know how I'm missing it...

They have neglected drafting pitching the last 2 drafts. That rears its ugly head at some point. When you have guys dropping with injuries, well, it accelerates the process of making the pitching look thin.
-
If I had posted before you, this is what I would have said. Nicely done.

Not with defense like that!?

Kimbrel as well, the reports were that he was looking for like 6/120 at the outset of the offseason. I bet that scared teams away, they went other avenues for their money and Kimbrel ended up hung out to dry. As for the draft pick compensation, even for Keuchel, when was the last 2nd round pick that made an impact for the Sox? Edit, looked it up. Bob Wickman was the last one, and Terry Forster was the other. Those are the only two. Ever. In the history of the White Sox drafting.
-
I'm shocked it wasn't fixed last time, as it did the same thing. Is there a reason they can't give the team that loses a guy a pick without taking it from another team?
-
Yeah, that year that Jackson won his cy young was.... wait, he never did? Jackson is a ridiculous comp for Keuchel. On any level.

GameThread: White Sox (Nova) @ Indians (Clevinger)

I think you can blame Ricky as well. The strongest part of this team should be the Herrera-Colome tandem. That is a backend that would play on many contending teams. That game seemed perfectly set up to use your 2 best bullpen guys in a close game in the 8th and 9th. Isn't that how you draw it up? But they apparently available because they had worked two days in a row. With one of those days, being a situation in which both pitched with the team down 2 runs. Not to mention there was an off day the next day. I can't blame Covey. He shouldn't have been in. Why sign Herrera and trade for Colome if you aren't going to use them in the text book situation for them. -

Ugh. This is so ridiculous. Why would anyone expect a 21 year old rookie to be a finished product? Maybe being on the roster all year last year will help him be better this year, and in the future.
