White Sox sign Leury Garcia to 3 year deal
turnin' two replied to raBBit's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Did you sleep through last season? Leury was incredibly valuable last year. He can play anywhere and while he isn't like a plus offensive player, he isn't a black hole either. He is pretty much perfectly suited for a utility role. Which is what the Sox signed him to be according to all reports. Also the Sox have never really pretended that he wasn't a utility player. He had to play too much last year, but with out him it would have been more Mendick or Hamilton. Or some other type of roster filler guy they had to pick up. Garcia isn't a world beater, but he is a guy that you need on your team. -

Seems to prove the point that he's pretty valuable to the Sox, right? -
Guys say all sorts of things. But, what, 9 out of 10 sign with the team that offers the most money.

Where could Kimbrel be traded, and for what?
turnin' two replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, if he were a free agent, and you were trying to sign him for 1 year, the number would be more than 16. -
I almost barfed. Ugh. I hate this place. It was a tradition in my wife's family. I would always complain about it, then one night we learned everyone hated it. And we haven't been back, and I couldn't be happier. Del Reys is like 10 minutes away and waaaaaay better. At least in my opinion.

Javy Baez Signs 6YR 140M Deal with Tigers - Morosi

This made me LOL. -
Not saying he belongs here, and he clearly isn't the offensive player the others are, but you may be surprised that at his best, Simmons certainly belongs. Simmons, over his career averages 3.73 bWAR per season? Correa is 4.87, Story is 4.45, Semien is 3.18, Seager is 3.04, Baez is 2.95. By bWAR, on a per season basis, he has been bested only by Story and Correa on this list. Now, with that being said he is oldest guy on the list, and has been really pedestrian the last 3 seasons. He obviously won't get near the contract any of the other guys. I just wanted to give his due credit because at the most important defensive position on the field, he is the best defensive player.

Which is why I said it is hard to straight compare their stats. Coors certainly has an effect. But, with that said, you couldn't say the same in terms of his counting stats in relation to Seager or Correa. I know no one is comparing those guys, just interesting. Really, what I'm saying I that I still don't see any way that Baez is clearly the superior player. As you said, similar offensive players, I think they're similar defensive players. Story is gonna get you more walks and higher OBP regardless of where he is playing, probably more SB too, though in today's game, that's pretty minor. I'd say Story is a better bet to be more consistent too. -

Is he? Story has a higher career WAR in fewer seasons. In both bWAR and fWAR. Its hard to straight compare stats, but Story averages (per 162) more hits, more 2B, more 3B, more HR, more RBI, more SB, more BB, more, higher BA, higher OBP, higher SLG, (so obviously a higher OPS). They are both well regarded defensively, I don't know how any of that adds up to Story being inferior, much less clearly inferior. -

I don't know what the second part means, but as for a piratate, it is obviously a rum soaked potato. As for my plan for the offseason, well it doesn't matter because I'm not in the front office and the needs of this team are pretty obvious. But here goes, since you asked, and i like to give people what they want. They need to sign a LH hitter. Conforto seems like a great fit. But no one seems to know what his market will be like. Joc is still a fit, though not perfect. Rosario could work too. Suzuki maybe, I don't know a lot about him but he seems like he could be a fit. Not really an area of Sox expertise though. They need a 2B. I'd love Chris Taylor, but I think the odds the Sox sign him are pretty dang slim. Segura seems like the most likely option, and he's a good player, expensive, but a good player. There aren't many other options that are exciting. The good thing here, is that with Yoan, TA, Abreu and Grandal, they have a pretty dynamic infield already. And like every other team, they need at least one starter and one more pen arm (assuming they trade Kimbrel -- another obvious must). Tepera was a great fit and would be my first choice. Hendriks-Graveman-Bummer seems like a solid back end now, but one reliable (if that's possible) reliever would be a huge pickup. As for a starter, well, I think Rodon would work. But he seems unlikely as well and is really risky. They won't play at the top tier and probably not even the second tier. The good news is that they have Lynn, Giolito, Cease, Kopech, Keuchel and Crochet. -

Cmon man, he's the best tagger ever. Haven't you heard?? That has to count for something! -

Because he one time ran backwards, and the Pirtates don't know how to play baseball, so he's the best ever at that. -
I would guess, and I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, but I'd guess he is poking fun at people freaking when the guys that were realistic targets (and good fits) are still available.

Robbie Ray to the Mariners, 5 years $115 million
turnin' two replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, but just talking about an individually sized contract isn't nearly reflective of the situation. So really its a not a great point. But the one point it really makes, is that if you understand your own point, and expected them to sign Scherzer, Seager or someone like that, well that's your own fault. -

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/2021/ They're pretty far from the Pirates and A's in payroll. -

Or... or, maybe they are being realistic about the White Sox having a budget that is not on par with teams like the Mets, Yankees and Dodgers, and are trying to prioritize how they would spend the money perceived to be available. -

All I had planned was a king of the hill marathon, so I'm just gonna keep on doing my thing for now.

turnin' two replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe Kimbrel for 1 year is better than Kenley for 3-4 years? Maybe Kenley is going to demand more than 16 per year? Maybe they don't believe in Kenley. Maybe Dombrowski knows Kimbrel and thinks he can get the best out of him. Those are the reasons of which I can think in 15 seconds, there are probably more. -
Isn't this every rotation in baseball?
-
Wow. That is downright astounding.

Oh Prometheus! When will you learn?

That's interesting. I know if I was a GM or owner, I'd much rather invest in Lindor. Edit: Full disclosure, that is most likely due to Correa being a stinky cheater pants.
