The rotation so far was the biggest strength of the sox (albeit line up and pen have been good too: 1st in AL in starter war, 4th in position player and reliever war) but recently this rotation was struggling a bit (4.9 era last two weeks) and their 3 best pitchers are currently hurt and cease got roughed up too last start. Are you worried starters have been overworked? Or do you think the DL trips are just fake to get some rest? How confident are you the top 4 can be as good as they were in the first half? if they are the sox could be very hard to beat

To be fair he made adjustments already a few times this year. Started out cold, then had a pretty hot phase, then cold again and then another hot phase, now struggling again. Pretty normal for a young hitter

9/3 game thread Sox @ KC *Rain Delay*
Dominikk85 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2021 Season in Review
They need him to eat some innings as long all those guys are on the DL and probably beyond as innings are managed. I think he is kept for the regular season but in playoffs he won't be on the roster because he is not useful in the pen either with his high 80s fastball. But of course as long Lynn and giolito they need him to pitch some innings unless they want to stretch out kopech or reylo. -
The bigger issue is that there are not enough good markets already. As long you have teams Like the As and rays who regularly run out sub 100m payrolls and play in front of empty stadiums despite being in a playoff race you don't need expansion. Worry about improving the location/stadium situations of those teams first. The last thing we need is another small market owner crying poor.

Castollanos is a good hitter and at 29 I think a 3-4 year contract wouldn't be the worst thing but he is a bad outfielder who should be a DH and the Sox have enough of those. They have jose, Vaughn played well in the of but his speed indicates this might not be for forever. They also have sheets and burger and maybe Collins if his bat turn around. No need to get another DH type

Giolito exits early, will miss at least one start

NFL does have an issue with hamstring injuries. They even funded a study for hammy injury prevention with 4 million dollars https://www.med.wisc.edu/news-and-events/2021/july/nfl-to-fund-uw-led-study-on-hamstring-injuries/#:~:text=A team of researchers led, injuries for elite football players. -
Does strike out but also has hit for power and taken some walks in the minors. I rather have him than leury out there even if it is 30%k and 7% walks because at least there is power.

Yeah put him on the IL. I like that this saves him a few innings too, who cares if they lose an extra game or two -
Yeah. They said the rays told glasnow to just throw the ball down the middle horizontally and just worry about throwing it up and down, so he would just worry about not throwing middle vertically but not worry about in and out because his movement and stuff is good enough to play in the middle as long he keeps the fastball up and the breaking ball down. That lowered glasnows walks while keeping the Ks even though there is an occasional homer

Eno Sarris has this command+ and stuff+ metrics and Sarris said in a podcast that cease stuff is among the best in the league and his command is still very bad but now improved to a point where it is playable as a starter, especially with the great stuff he has

The indians are barely a 500 team after the trades they made. Even if the Sox would struggle and only play 500 the rest of the way they still win the division. Obviously you don't want that but the division is very bad after the Sox.

Thanks. How can you find k rate in that search?

Is the White Sox bullpen unusually difficult to manage?
Dominikk85 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like that though. The Sox lost a few games due to that but it will mean the pen is fresh in the playoffs. I rather blow a few games now and have Hendriks, crochet, kopech and kimbrel fresh in the playoffs. -

Dominikk85 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox pen is good at the top but lacking a bit of depth. Hendricks, crochet, kopech ruiz and bummer have been good but they also have thrown foster for 33 innings and marshall for 27 innings. Sure occasionally Hendriks will blow one too but most of the time he is OK. Most important is that the Sox likely won't need those bad relievers anymore after the trade for kimbrel. -
Saw an article that the giants have a slider machine that throws super tough sliders to prepare for games. Maybe Sox can get one too.
-
Good analysis. Vaughn still struggles against sliders on the outer half, albeit I think some of those numbers is also bad luck. Where can you find those numbers how someone does against certain pitch types?

Do the White Sox need an offensive adjustment?
Dominikk85 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't agree. Imo the sox offense got super lucky and massively overperformed in the first half without the homers. Even if offense is now slightly worse the true talent of the line-up now is much better and should be fine. There will be some weeks were they will go cold but overall that line up with Robert, eloy, and improved Vaughn, tim, Jose and so on should be a very good line up and homers will be a big part of that -
Yeah mlb would lose a ton of fans if there was a work stoppage. Those things are not quite related but Fans are still pissed off they lost half of 2020 due to covid and if they have another half season next year they will connect those things and be extremely pissed off. Can't have like two truncated seasons in 3 years. Still it will be very tough to find an agreement.

I think labor negotiations are going to be extremely ugly and there could be a strike or a lockout.

08/18 Game Thread: Oakland Athletics at Sox 7:10 NBCSN
Dominikk85 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in 2021 Season in Review
I think Robert will always be a streaky guy due to his free swinging and swing and miss and have some 340 months and some 190 months but as long the bottom line is ok in the end that is fine. -
Yeah but he is young for AAA. Being old for a draft class is a negative predictor and model based drafting teams do target young guys but if you are really powerful already as a HS player it might not matter so much.
-
The dodgers have been using the fake DL/calling up minors guys for many years to give guys rest and lengthen their pitching staff. If you overdo it too much it might get sanctioned but if you only do it with a handful of guys usually nothing happens.

Is Vaughn turning into a legit ROY candidate?
Dominikk85 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think he will quite make it due to his early struggles and also because TLR used him on and off the first 5-6 weeks which made it harder for him. Still he is having a nice season, among AL rookies he is 6th in war, 3rd in wrc+, 7th in avg and 6th in homers. He probably will finish top 3-4 or so in Roy voting. -
Yeah I get that. I was just stating that the DSL is not really appropriate to his skill and experience level. But it is still throwing some innings under somewhat competitive circumstances so it is better than nothing. The real test will be next year though.
-
Definitely a good result, but he is 21 playing against 16-19 year old Domenican guys. He really shouldn't be in that league but in full season low A ball.
