Great game today by Vaughn. His split is really extreme, 493 vs righties and 1064 against lefties. So essentially he is leury against RHP and Jose against LHP:).
-
Yes, totally dependent on the type of injuries. Some injuries can be reoccurring or getting worse over time but sometimes there also is a series of bad luck incidents.
-
Why? The sox are 4th in the majors in wrc+ despite half of their lineup being on the DL including several stars.
-
I think long term Vaughn will be fine but why not send him down a couple weeks and get that service time year back? He still has a big hole in his swing that he can work on in the minors https://www.fangraphs.com/players/andrew-vaughn/26197/heat-maps?position=OF&ss=&se=&hand=&count=&pitch=&season=&view=bat&data=&grid=&blur=&type=5

Glasnow claims the ban of substances changed his grip and contributed to his ucl injury
-
The offense really has overperformed considering all the injuries. This could regress and I hope it stays good enough so that they survive the time until Eloy and Robert are back. The offense really needs Eloy, Robert (and Nick too). The sox did benefit from an easy schedule and some guys over performing, I just hope they play above 500 the next 6 weeks so they can pick up when Eloy, nick and Robert come back

Glasnow probably needs TJ now, that is a big hit for their playoff chances

The Jarred Kelenic Appreciation Thread
Dominikk85 replied to Harold's Leg Lift's topic in The Diamond Club
I think his struggle was a bit of bad luck too. He struck out too much at 28% but his swstr rate was more indicative of around a 20% k rate. -
Yes. There are still many missed calls but there was a fangraphs article that umpires got Significantly better since pitch fx was installed since Umps are checked against that and kinda get a report telling them which pitches they got wrong so They can work on it. There are still some old Umps which are pretty bad but I think overall they get like 93% or so of the calls right which is pretty amazing considering the stuff of modern pitchers. Still of course robo ump would be better as even just 5 or 6 bad pitch calls can have a big influence. Instant replay They are pretty good too, just 47% of calls are overturned despite teams checking video before calling for replay.

I think Sr said elijah had more physical talent but not quite the work ethic of his brother. Not sure how much we can give on that though. We probably shouldn't expect that outcome with any prospect though, if he becomes an mlb regular that would be a success story.

I agree about the Lynn move. Rodon and the depth pieces have been with the club for years though except for Hamilton.

13 runs already:)

I hope Hahn will not sit on his ass this deadline again. I certainly support don’t breaking the bank and keep the top5 prospects but the market for rentals has been very cheap the last years. Thus I would hope he gets at least two rentals this deadline (a 2b and a relief pitcher). Just keep the major leaguers and young high upside prospects like Kelley and Bailey and be aggressive in shipping away the 22-25 yo prospects which are not top 100 and haven't made the majors yet.

Yeah, Cashman has done that before and he might do that little mini rebuild again but only if the next couple weeks go really bad.

I still like the trade. Sure war vs war the sox likely will lose him but they got an absolute horse who dominates and - which is also important goes 7+ all the time compared to dunning who at least at this point is a twice through the lineup guy which means the sox shaky pen would have had another day where they had to come out after 5 or even in the 5th. The sox simply traded depth for quality even though dunning looks pretty solid too. Great trade for Texas too as it lines up better with their next window. Trade made sense for both teams. Steele walker has a strange season over there too. Very low K rate (11%) and solid power (223 ISO and 6 homers) but still only a 233 average with a 212 babip. That is probably a bit bad luck but also very high pop up rate, fly ball rate and pull rate, so it seems he is going full bore "launch angle" to maximize power which is eating into his babip. Still an 11% walk rate with a 223 ISO isn't a bad combination, maybe he can become like a second division regular or at least a long side Platoon guy for texas

Madrigal goes on 60 day DL, Hamstring tear: Goodwin recalled
Dominikk85 replied to 2Deep's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Let's wait for the results, it could be a grade 1 that is only 3 weeks or something worse. Depends on how big the tear is. -
Is he ready for learning that on the job though? Kopech has been a starter for years while crochet has no Milb experience (and very little college experience too) and has basically been FB/slider with an occasional change. Can he learn to establish a real 3 pitch mix in that role in the majors? Is he allowed an occasional blow up in that role?
-
I don't see a realistic way of Making crochet a starter. Sure he would be plenty young enough but if he finishes 2021 strong are you really sending him to the minors after appearing in two consecutive years successfully in the majors?
-
He has like 250 career plate appearances so his ops means nothing. General consensus is that your stats don't mean much until you have 700-800 career plate appreances. Mike trout had a sub 700 Ops his first 150 plate appreances. Obviously trout was way younger so that doesn't really compare but still you can't call someone with less than a half season worth of PAs a bust. It is a little disappointing that it took so long to arrive in the majors but I would mostly blame the front office that they didn't force giving collins (who has a 840 minors career ops) 450 PAs in the meaningless 2019 season and instead played 30 yo McCann (who was great but not the future of the team).
-
Adley rutschman has really turned it on in AA. After striking out like 35% in the first week his K rate is now down to 18% (15% since game 7) with a 20% walk rate and 8 homers with a 293 avg. He is looking really good right now but for the orioles that is a bit uncomfortable as they kinda try to slow cook their prospects and bring up all the guys together which will be hard to Justify if he keeps that up another 2 months

Yerminator campaigning for HR Derby opportunity
Dominikk85 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He needs to get his approach in check. He can hit but he is taking absolute G hacks at every pitch even if it is a foot outside. He doesn't have an elite eye like grandal but he has had decent walk rates in the minors so he should be able to get his chasing at least somewhat in check, 43% o swing is just too high for a guy who walked 9-10% his last 2 Milb seasons, he shouldn't be higher than 32-33 or so. -
Mike trout hit 220 his first cup of coffee (150 PAs or so), that stuff happens. Maybe if he was striking out 50% I would be worried but while his 28% k rate is a bit high but his swinging strike and contact rate is actually slightly better than average so his K rate actually should be more like low 20s. His batted ball quality was pretty bad but it was 92 PAs. Not very worried at all

What is interesting about Bauer is that he likely was using before and this year is another plus 200 or so. That likely means he has found a new substance that significantly outperforms the state of the art what others are using.

Sucks for sheets he didn't get an AB before getting sent down:)
