White sox prospects podcast update 12/12/20: dalquist interview
Dominikk85 replied to Dominikk85's topic in FutureSox Board
Here is the dalquist interview https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/prospect-interview-andrew-dalquist/id1525225214?i=1000501979117 -
How about getting him as a reliever. Former top prospect who initially struggled but since 2018 he has a 3.5 Fip/era and last year even 2.9 era, 2.6 fip. Not a k machine but with about a k per inning not bad either. Is only 28 and just got non tendered by the reds. I think he would be a good get for the pen if you can get him at like 2/12 or so. Hendricks probably would be better but bradley wouldn't be bad.

Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option
Dominikk85 replied to Greek-konerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A Lot depends in whether his decline last year was permenant. It was a short sample and many good players had bad seasons but with him his walk rate went down, k rate went up and contact and chase rate also got worse. It could be permanent decline, related to health issues (permanent or resolveable) or maybe a result of bad training due to covid. Health is always a challenge with him but if he can get back to his old good K/bb ratio and hit 12-15 homers with a good obp that would be fine but with him being 32 and having his extensive injury history it could also be the end. With 1 year and a club option the risk for the sox is rather limited and at least doesn't affect long term payroll outlook. -
The Sox don't need to sign a DH. They have Yermín Francisco Mercedes.

I think yermin probably will be hitting 40 bombs in korea or japan pretty soon:). -

He also Said he has an interview coming soon with a sox pitching prospect. I forgot who it was though. -
Every GM wants to have more money, no GM would say "nah, don't give me more money, I'm fine with our budget":). Can't blame hahn for the budget, it is what it is especially with covid but still wondering about some moves.
-
Maybe he just wants to keep his job. But yeah, there is a chance he is on board with this but his presser after the season just sounded very differently.

I agree, yermin and Collins for 2-4 weeks is fine and they shouldn't sign a DH. However I doubt that either of the two can keep vaughn down. If one of them really mashes then keep vaughn in the minors till the trade deadline (which would be nice due to super 2 status too) and then sell high on mercedes/Collins at the deadline and get a good reliever for them. -
Hahn was tasked to do a very painful rebuild in which the sox were very bad. He did what he was asked for, traded some stars and built a top3 farm system in mlb. It took some time but this year it finally lead to success and the first post season appearance in like a decade. Hahn also took efforts to turn a very backwards organization into at least middle of the pack team in analytics and player dev and when he announced that he fired ricky and cooper he said that he wants to get more analytics personnel in that presser. Hahn was generally celebrated and voted executive of the year by media. But then some stuff happened very quickly. A 75 year old TLR was hired despite jerry knowing the legal allegations but even if not TLR probably wasn't the guy hahn was describing at that presser. Also the signing/trading of two older veterans eaton and lynn doesn't really look like a hahn move. So how did this happen? I get jerry is an old man but he seemed to be fine with hahn modernizing the sox (player dev, coaching, analytics) and making them younger in the last 2-3 years so what did change his mind? The sox are still in a good position to Win but still this seems to be a pretty big change of direction by jerry.

Sox acquire Lance Lynn for Dane Dunning and Avery Weems
Dominikk85 replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm fine with this trade. I think dunning is a solid 5 starter but his upside is rather limited. I don't know anything about weems. His stats are great but he was 22 in rookie ball so he better put up good stats, now he is 23 and missed his "sophomore" season due to covid which makes him a 23 year old who will be 24 in June and hasn't pitched above rookie ball. In terms of overall war the Sox are going to lose this big time but I rather have 3.5 war by lynn than 9 war by weems and dunning stretched out over like 10 seasons. -
So You essentially want to trade like half of the top8 sox prospects?

Will We Have a Full 162 Game Season in 2021?
Dominikk85 replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No unless there is full crowd from day one. If there is no full crowd owners will say they need to save money and reduce games again. I tend to say no because even if vaccination starts soon it will take very long until enough people are vaccinated. -
I haven't really seen any posts here on people down on him, just a few guys who believe he could use a few more milb at bats

I think he didn't mention madrigal because he considers him graduated out of prospect ranks. I agree he is a good listen. They said he also is a minor league play by play commentator and he really went off on manfred and the milb contraction and thinks the new draft league is a joke with no top college players going there. -
I think it depends If the Team ist going to eat the whole contract. If a Team eats the whole contract it won't be much of a return (maybe a 45 and a 40) but if the Phillies add 15 mil it would require a good package.
-
I agree. In theory the develope hitting and buy pitching approach that the cubs or red sox used is good because hitting prospects are the safer thing but that approach really got expensive and one or two injuries can make it blow up. It still worked for the red sox the last 15 years but it needed an insane amount of money and really one big pitching injury and the season was gone.
-
The Phillies also had a much worse starting situation because they didn't have several cost controlled players in their prime to trade. Phillies really tried to ride the core of the 08/09 team till the end and were left with a bunch of expensive washed up guys that couldn't be traded. Kinda like the tigers too now.
-
You wouldn't take 1 ws win and 2 ALCS losses plus another WC? They could do more but they cubs also could have won another one (or none at all), the postseason does involve some luck.
-
I wrote this already in the other thread but again here: the cubs didn't have a short window, they had six years averaging 93.8 wins with 5 over 90, 5 postseasons, 2 nlcs and 1 ws The cubs since 2015 won 2015: 97 (nlcs) 2016: 103 (WS) 2017: 92 (nlcs) 2018: 95 (WC) 2019:84 (no playoffs) 2020: 34 (92 pace, lost WC) That is a fantastic, very long window and I would immediately sign up for that for the sox.
-
Yeah had giolito and moncada not turned it around after their rocky start it would look much worse for the sox now.
-
They simply Had too many prospects not working out (Monika, crawford, kingery, velazquez and others).I don't really think they made big mistakes except for their drafts which weren't great apart from bohm who looks ok. When they hired ochart from driveline the player dev got better but at that time it was too late as the high upside guys were mostly out of the system or high minors already.
-
Not sure who that guy is but he has a several times per week prospect podcast. Here is Stuff about the sox system.some interesting info, he seems to have stiever ahead of kopech which is kinda strange though. Kyle Schwarber signs with Nationals: 1 year 10mil
Dominikk85 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It is tough to say. Yeah it is true that vaughn only played high A ball and he also was good but not super dominant there (good K/bb rate but power just ok and ops of 830 is good but not spectacular and doesn't warrant a direct promotion). However the scouting reports are all very high on him and he also looked very solid in spring and summer training. You could definitely justify keeping him down half a year as an 800 ops in A ball is not a concern but also not forcing you to skip AA an AAA but I think here you can trust the scouting reports that he likely will be at least above average right away when he comes to the majors and hold his own due to his very solid plate discipline and mature approach. -

The Sox already have a DH in Andrew Vaughn. They Just need to plug in a scrub for 2 weeks and then call up Vaughn. So why would the sox sign a DH? -

Dominikk85 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Schwarber is a pretty solid hitter as he has averaged 30+ homers and lots of walks in his career but his BA is a bit of a disappointment. In college he was a bit like vaughn with more walks than Ks and great BA, OBP and slg and in the low minors his K rate and BA was ok too but once he made it to the majors (or really already in AAA ball) his K rate really went up and also the shift are up his babip due to his pull tendency so he basically is a 240 hitters with lots of walks and homers now (kinda adam dunn). That is not terrible (peak adam dunn was a very good player) but when he was scouted in college and the low minors many thought he could be a "triple threat" guy (avg, obp and slg).
