  1. No unless there is full crowd from day one. If there is no full crowd owners will say they need to save money and reduce games again. I tend to say no because even if vaccination starts soon it will take very long until enough people are vaccinated.
  2. I haven't really seen any posts here on people down on him, just a few guys who believe he could use a few more milb at bats
  3. I think he didn't mention madrigal because he considers him graduated out of prospect ranks. I agree he is a good listen. They said he also is a minor league play by play commentator and he really went off on manfred and the milb contraction and thinks the new draft league is a joke with no top college players going there.
  4. I think it depends If the Team ist going to eat the whole contract. If a Team eats the whole contract it won't be much of a return (maybe a 45 and a 40) but if the Phillies add 15 mil it would require a good package.
  5. I agree. In theory the develope hitting and buy pitching approach that the cubs or red sox used is good because hitting prospects are the safer thing but that approach really got expensive and one or two injuries can make it blow up. It still worked for the red sox the last 15 years but it needed an insane amount of money and really one big pitching injury and the season was gone.
  6. The Phillies also had a much worse starting situation because they didn't have several cost controlled players in their prime to trade. Phillies really tried to ride the core of the 08/09 team till the end and were left with a bunch of expensive washed up guys that couldn't be traded. Kinda like the tigers too now.
  7. You wouldn't take 1 ws win and 2 ALCS losses plus another WC? They could do more but they cubs also could have won another one (or none at all), the postseason does involve some luck.
  8. I wrote this already in the other thread but again here: the cubs didn't have a short window, they had six years averaging 93.8 wins with 5 over 90, 5 postseasons, 2 nlcs and 1 ws The cubs since 2015 won 2015: 97 (nlcs) 2016: 103 (WS) 2017: 92 (nlcs) 2018: 95 (WC) 2019:84 (no playoffs) 2020: 34 (92 pace, lost WC) That is a fantastic, very long window and I would immediately sign up for that for the sox.
  9. Yeah had giolito and moncada not turned it around after their rocky start it would look much worse for the sox now.
  10. They simply Had too many prospects not working out (Monika, crawford, kingery, velazquez and others).I don't really think they made big mistakes except for their drafts which weren't great apart from bohm who looks ok. When they hired ochart from driveline the player dev got better but at that time it was too late as the high upside guys were mostly out of the system or high minors already.
  11. Not sure who that guy is but he has a several times per week prospect podcast. Here is Stuff about the sox system.some interesting info, he seems to have stiever ahead of kopech which is kinda strange though. 12. It is tough to say. Yeah it is true that vaughn only played high A ball and he also was good but not super dominant there (good K/bb rate but power just ok and ops of 830 is good but not spectacular and doesn't warrant a direct promotion). However the scouting reports are all very high on him and he also looked very solid in spring and summer training. You could definitely justify keeping him down half a year as an 800 ops in A ball is not a concern but also not forcing you to skip AA an AAA but I think here you can trust the scouting reports that he likely will be at least above average right away when he comes to the majors and hold his own due to his very solid plate discipline and mature approach.
  13. The Sox already have a DH in Andrew Vaughn. They Just need to plug in a scrub for 2 weeks and then call up Vaughn. So why would the sox sign a DH?
  14. Schwarber is a pretty solid hitter as he has averaged 30+ homers and lots of walks in his career but his BA is a bit of a disappointment. In college he was a bit like vaughn with more walks than Ks and great BA, OBP and slg and in the low minors his K rate and BA was ok too but once he made it to the majors (or really already in AAA ball) his K rate really went up and also the shift are up his babip due to his pull tendency so he basically is a 240 hitters with lots of walks and homers now (kinda adam dunn). That is not terrible (peak adam dunn was a very good player) but when he was scouted in college and the low minors many thought he could be a "triple threat" guy (avg, obp and slg).
  15. It would bei stupid to Bring up vaughn immediately because unless he signs an extension because then you could just as well have brought him up last September for the playoffs instead of EE. I doubt vaughn has improved much between September and next spring so there is really no argument to think he is ready in April but wasn't in September.
  16. I think the Duncan signing could be a bad sign that reinsdorf has transferred power from hahn to TLR. Not saying duncan is bad but it is probably no coincidence that he is the son of Dave Duncan. It is ok TLR wants to bring his own coaches but an analytics coordinator should be on the front office and not on the manager. Maybe I'm missreading this and it is a coincidence but it sounds a bit fishy.
  17. I guess at least the political views of bauer and TLR are pretty similar:). Not sure how he would get along with how TLR handles data. I think as long they let bauer do his thing with the training and preparation.
  18. For teams like the sox not the highest upside guys are interesting but rather more polished guys who can fill out a niche (most likely pen). So guys like maitan and pint make no sense as they are nowhere near mlb ready even in a small role.
  19. Rule 5 will be tough this year with no milb season last year a lot of guys will be pushed into rule 5 that might have used 2020 to get mlb ready in the minors. This should mean the talent level could be better than a normal rule 5 draft but there also is missed development time. Imo you can't really draft hitters this year after they missed a year of at bats. But there might be some high octane guys you can put into a relief role. Most interesting would be to find a pitcher who has used 2020 to gain velo or add a pitch but that is almost impossible to find out for the other 29 teams.
  20. Bradley is still a plus fielder out there in the outfield. Uzr has him slightly positive in center
  21. With one year and His salary I can't see him being too expensive in terms of prospects. Cubs shouldn't get any of the sox top4 prospects for him. I would thing something like a good 45 fv and two 40s or so prospects should get it done.
  22. I'm also against trading the top prospects but I think this "the cubs were only good a short time" is overstated. The cubs since 2015 won 2015: 97 (nlcs) 2016: 103 (WS) 2017: 92 (nlcs) 2018: 95 (WC) 2019:84 (no playoffs) 2020: 34 (92 pace, lost WC) Eventually they had 6 years with 5 of them over 90 wins (average 93.8) and also some bad luck in the post season.they could have won in 15 and 17 too, they definitely had a strong window, 6 years is a good period. If the sox in the next 5-6 years win a WS, and make another 2 ALCS and two WC I would take it in a heartbeat. The dissapointment with the cubs is more because they had most success at the beginning of their window but overall it was a pretty good window even though they made some bad decisions, especially on the free agent market and could have been even better.
  23. Ideally the Sox keep all the advanced good prospects (close to mlb and 50fv+ and sign guys via free agency. The Sox have one of the lowest payrolls in the majors and could afford some more even without breaking the bank.
  24. I think they need to get another top reliever or at least resign colome. The pen was great last year but there is some regression expected and a pen minus colome and plus some regression could get ugly especially if there maybe is an injury.
