I think Theo wasn't motivated to go through another tank job and if the owners weren't giving him the financial means to compete it made no sense to stay there. Maybe he goes to the angels now after dombrowski declined the opportunity?
-
Can't answer that without knowing the price. Wouldn't want to trade vaughn, madrigal and kopech but obviously there is a price for anyone. I would rather trade thompson or stiever but the return is also lower.

But that was true for giolito too, not a lot of Ks initially. As long the stuff is there I think there I hope they can increase Ks with better command and pitch selection. Cease fell behind often and also missed big with his offspeed stuff a lot so hitters wouldn't chase. If he can get ahead more often and keep the miss margin for the offspeed stuff smaller he will get more chased too. That of course is an if and no guarantee but there is some hope for him and I wouldn't write off lopez either.

Marcus Stroman accepts qualifying offer from Mets
Dominikk85 replied to TomPickle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree. He wouldn't get a higher AAV and a long term contract would have been greatly reduced. So he pockets the 18 mil and then hopes finances are better in early 2022. Of course he will be a year older and also could get hurt and then make nothing but he has made enough money so he can take the gamble. -
He had an absolute monster season though. Over 50% k rate, 44% k-bb, 0.86 opponent average, 0.33 era, 0.86 fip. Also his "change up" that he invented might be one of the best pitches of all time, it has insane spin and movement and players missedore than 50% of the time when they swung. All the pitch design guys like bauer will want to learn it. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/devin-williams-and-the-unicorn-changeup/

Actually Realistic Vaughn Trade Ideas?

Abreu is still very good but with contract he also doesn't have much projected surplus value. You could trade him but wouldn't get much back (maybe a 45fv prospect or so). Even vaughn doesn't have a huge amount of trade value because the market doesn't love short right handed first basemen. Don't get me wrong, vaughn has good trade value because the industry believes he will be like a 120 WRC+ hitter with a very high likelihood but it is more you are getting a good young 3 starter for him instead of a TOR. Don't want to give him up for that. Now there is a chance that vaughn gets even better than that of course. Some experts say his absolute ceiling is essentially paul goldschmidt who averaged like 5 war during his prime (as a 60fv they project vaughn to average 3 WAR) and in that case of course you get a TOR for him (if he has proven that on the mlb level for 2 seasons) but I wouldn't want to trade paul goldschmidt. -
Grandal has been constantly rated a great framer, can't believe pitchers think he is stealing strikes. 2020 he was 4th in baseball savant Framing https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/catcher_framing and second at bbpro https://www.baseballprospectus.com/leaders/catching/catcher-stats-full-season?year=2020&lg=all&team=all&lvl=mlb&min=qualified Not sure about the game calling albeit I would think often the manager calls it these days, doesn't he?

Honestly giolito needs to learn to deal with grandal. It is not that grandal is some defensive hack, so there is no reason why giolito shouldn't get along with grandal especially if you get a worse backup than mccann.

Bumping this thread as I like to fish too. Mainly fly fishing from may till October for trout and some european species that probably don't exist in the US and when it is colder I'm usually fishing jigs and rigs with rubber bait mostly for perch. I rarely catch something big though, usually only fishes until 12-13 inch and often smaller than that. But with light tackle like a class 3 fly rod or an ul casting rod it still is fun.
-
Yeah If he is really cheap why not. Just wouldn't invest much in that.
-
And in a Corner a 95 wrc+ is pretty mediocre.
-
Yeah. He isn't a terrible hitter and does have a bit of pop and decent walk rates but he also had a .340 babip which is unusual for him. He basically is a 15-20 HR hitter who strikes out too much and mostly is about a 90-100 wrc+ hitter who occasionally is a little better with some babip luck. That has value with his defense but the Sox already have that with more upside in robert.
-
He is a good fielder but can't really hit that well. I don't see why the Sox need that. Having a glove first CF is ok if you have two corners who can mash but the Sox have robert who can field well AND has offensive upside. The Sox also have a good glove guy who can't hit in engel. Granted bradley is not as bad with the stick as engel (only slightly below average instead of very bad) but with Robert and engel the sox don't really need a 95 wrc+ CF which is not terrible but a downgrade. The Sox don't need more playing time blockers like EE and mazara this year, if you get one get a real upgrade or let the young guys play.

We will see. Biden has been a neolib in the past but bernie pressured him to make quite a few concessions by staying in the race so Long. He did promise free college, at least some form of medicare and some other stuff and backing off From that would alienate the progressive wing

Actually Realistic Vaughn Trade Ideas?

I actually thing vaughn would not gain that much value with dominating AA. Don't forget he is ranked as a top40 prospect despite being a short right handed first base man who did good but not spectacular in A ball (.830 ops). Usually a first year 1b who posts an 830 ops is a 40+ Fv prospect so of course Vaughn's 55 Fv rank or whatever he has now considers his report and assumes performance. This means his ranking already assumes that he would dominate AA ball because what he has shown so far wouldn't warrant a top40 rank. This is not a criticism as I think his milb performance was only a tiny sample and his scouting report and also spring and summer camp reports is more accurate than his small sample where he probably was a bit tired from his college season however I think his current rank basically assumes he had hit .300/400/550 in AA which is what a first base prospect needs to do to be ranked top50. Now if he goes totally crazy and hits 350/450/650 this could maybe raise his value but a good deal of performance is already assumed in his ranking and probably rightfully so. With those top college bats you just assume they will perform at last until AA so that is why they are ranked high before showing something but that also means they don't climb as much if they actually do perform. That is different for a HS or international guy, which those guys hitting is more of a question so if they show something they will climb more. -

Of course there is a price you would trade him for but I doubt a team is going to pay it. Of course you trade vaughn if you get offered let's say shane bieber. However such an offer likely is not on the table and what you get for him is not worth losing him. Just bring him up and enjoy him. -
But then the Republicans also need to compromise and not block everything in the senate they are likely going to win. In the past it often was an asymmetrical war were the Republicans played foul with every semi legal tricks and the Dems losing because they weren't willing to throw as much dirt. It has to be a level playing field and since now the Dems have the president it is the Republicans who have to make the first step and allow for some compromise. Biden should offer cooperation but only if the reps offer something, if the reps go back to blocking everything then the Dems need to start using those foul tactics too so they don't get beaten by that. If the Republicans really want compromise they need to step up and stop some dirty tactics (even if technically legal) they have used in the past. Fairness and compromise isn't a one way street.

What Chance do the democrats have to win the senate? If biden wins but loses the senate it would make it a lot tougher for him, wouldn't it?

The biggest issue with trump is his resistance to good advice. His racist talk, lies, insults whatever but the biggest problem is that he isn't able to listen to good advice and either alienates or fires any smart people that were around him. Had he done all this crazy stupid talk but listened to experts especially on covid like for example merkel did in Germany trump would have easily been re elected. You can be a loud mouth, self absorbed ass but then you can't be incompetent too. His first 3 years he kinda lucked into being seen as somewhat competent in economy but then when a real challenge came he was not smart enough to listen to the experts and run a solid policy. Covid has stopped trump but it was not the virus but trump's terrible handling of it that killed him because such a crisis actually helps the leader if he does a semi decent job handling this. In europe you can see that too for example with merkel or the austrian chancellor too, they handled it well with rather restrictive measures and their popularity grew. Trump didn't even act badly, he did nothing and made jokes about the virus and that is not what a leader does.

Yeah definitely turned out well and the dodgers were a deserving champion. Really no asterisk here as the post season was actually a bit longer and the dodgers won their division like 7 years in a row and lead this year again by some margin so making the playoffs was never in question. However of course the playoffs have a luck component and if the playoff format stays like this eventually we could see a sub .500 team winning the WS so I would not like it if it stays like this.

Taijuan Walker, worth a gamble or is Jake Odorizzi
Dominikk85 replied to AJ'S Cousin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't be surprised if the sox signed odorizzi. He is the type of veteran reclamation project the sox would go for. This hasn't worked so well in the past but if it works it could be good. -
Wasn't there an interview were trump was asked for his favorite bible verse and he couldn't come up with one?:) Btw the one positive with trump imo was that he is not interested in Military and war. Not every war is wrong but with his judgement ability him being more military loving could have caused some serious harm. Fortunately he didn't care about that and create another endless war that costs trillions and achieves very little.

Btw I'm no huge biden fan and would have preferred a younger candidate but do trump people really Believe biden will install socialism, get rid of churches, get rid of police and open the borders? Biden-obama actually deported more people than trump did. Biden and harris also both have a strong pro police, law and order record. Also biden is pretty centrist when it comes to economy stuff.he is talking left to appease the bernie/aoc fans but he certainly is not a Socialist by any means when judging his policy in the last 30 years.

I'm not from the us but I don't quite understand why religious people support trump. I think trump goes way less to church then biden, he was married several times, had an affair with a porn star and allegedly paid several women for abortion. Why would religious people support him?
