Yeah mccannn will definitely sign for less per year, maybe something like 3/22 or so.

La russa actually was a pioneer in using data on field and very modern for his time. Also age doesn't mean you have to stop learning, Jerry Weinstein is like 77 and considered one of the most cutting edge catching coaches. However La russa hasn't managed in like 10 years so the question is how up to date is he and whether he is still willing to implement new stuff. I definitely would prefer a younger manager who has managed in the last 2 years.
-
Obviously you are not getting a young tor, but maybe a solid 3 with 1-2 years like Dylan bundy
-
I think the only big mistake was not trading for a SP this deadline. Yeah it was only year one but it still is about one sixt of the window and sometimes year one is the year, maybe they end up like the dodgers as a 3 time WS runner up. Not saying he should have traded Vaughn but he should have unloaded guys like basabe, Rutherford, sheets and adolfo who likely will lose all their value anyway soon.

Trevor Bauer Thread (Mazara Free Zone)
Dominikk85 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To be fair bauer did reduce such incidents in the last year. He used to do this very often but really this was the first incident this season of that nature. He also has stopped posting political content mostly which was smart too. -
I want a veteran but not a super old guy, he should be under 60 but definitely well under 70. So no la russa, sciocia or bochy.
-
Higher than white definitely but really Vaughn has not much leverage here. He is 23 next year, if the Sox keep him down 2 weeks he is 30 at free agency which is not great for a first baseman. That is very different from a 20 yo centerfielder like acuna was when he signed.
-
When does Vaughn get called up next year? Call him up after two weeks or start him in AA and keep him there until super two cutoff? You could also bring him up immediately but that would be stupid as it means you just as well could have called him up this September
-
That can happen but you don't fire the manager of a playoff team to hire a guy who might or might not grow into the job. Hahn will want a guy that he is 90 percent sure that it will work, no time for experiments now as the clock on the window is ticking. That likely means a veteran, Tampa is in a much different situation as they are Pretty Cash strapped and won't spend 3-4mil a year on a manager.
-
Obviously there is a good chance he will never make it and he likely is more likely to never make it but even if there is only a small Chance it is worth to find out. There is a long list of pitchers who figured it out around age 25-27, randy Johnson had like 4 career war at age 26. Obviously those cases are rare but they can happen and it is worth to find out especially with a new PC and after this crazy year.
-
I think it is the most fair thing though. Yeah it punishes over performing teams but still better than weigh last years record twice as much as this year's record
-
Everything points to the Sox hiring a guy with manager experience and not some bench coach or minor league coach. I just hope it is not a super old guy like La russa. Get an experienced guy but no a dinosaur who will fight against analytics.
-
Reylo has very little trade value right now, you would probably get a 40fv prospect for him right now. Definitely keep him and see what a new pitching coach can do. That doesn't mean hand him a spot in the rotation for free but at least he needs to get a long look in spring training. He still is only 26 and has a live arm and could turn it around. If he doesn't you can still get rid of him next year.

Sox Press Conference - 11am 10/12 - RR out as Sox manager
Dominikk85 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Do you think that move maybe means that reinsdorf maybe sees this as a chance to win one more championship in his live and disregard economic stuff? Maybe he kinda sees it like "I don't have that many more years and now we have a great core so spending money is not a futile waste like in the mid 2010s but a real chance to win a championship"? Maybe it really was Jerry pushing for a championship and it means he will go a bit in the red to win a ring like illitch tried in his final years in Detroit. -
I don't think you can expect him to get a star in this economy. If he gets a 2 war RF, a decent reliever to replace colome (maybe colome himself) and a good 3rd starter I would be fine with that.
-
What is your opinion about his job the last couple years and especially this year? The positives: 1)he built a great core by trades. Yeah he had a head start with the talent he could trade away but still he built a great core and the sale and especially the quintana trades were big wins, as was the Eaton trade. Yeah he had the tatis trade but so what, nobody in the industry saw it coming so shut up about that 2) he didn't make stupid trades of top prospects but kept the core together, would have been really stupid to trade Vaughn, Robert or madrigal but he was patient despite fans getting pissed at him that the rebuild takes too long 3) international signing The Sox didn't do much on the Dominican market except for the who shall not be named but the Cuban signings really were spectacular with Abreu and Robert. The Cuban connection remains a strength of the front office albeit the Domenican connection could stand an overhaul The negatives: 1) I think generally he was not active enough in trades. He really needed to make a trade for an SP at the deadline. I think it is good he didn't trade the top guys but if you look at the top analytical GMs like the rays, As, dodgers or Astros they do a lot of trades for their second rate prospects and they still maintain a good farm. Hahn keeping his minor league depth looks great in prospect lists but he let many guys rot in the minors until they lost all their value and that soon could happen to Rutherford and others too. Mixed: 1) the draft Vaughn and madrigal look solid but really they were top4 guys and high floor college guys so they should look good. Other then them it doesn't look so great since the sale draft. 2) free agent signings The veteran signings like EE generally did not work at all for the Sox. I still wouldn't call it bad though as he simply wasn't able to spend much. Grandal and keuchel looked good so far but of course it was only the first year of not so young players so we need to wait and see. 3) he tried to modernize the team bringing in data guys like lisle and johanssen for hitting even if not everyone worked out. Sox still are at best middle of the pack in player dev and analytics but that is a big step up already. Still of course they are not nearly on top here and in their own division while not as bad as the tigers and royals they are clearly behind the Indians and also the twins. Hahn did a good job at improving it but the twins started that modernization process later and clearly shot past the Sox in that regard so change is not as radical as it could be. Maybe that changes with the Cooper firing and the Sox go full driveline instead of the typical in house promotion. I would overall give him a B- to c+ grade. Most important is he didn't mess up the rebuild but he could have invested more this season without ruinning the farm.
-
Good news definitely albeit he still is at an increased risk, often a strain is a precursor for an ucl tear even with no detectable damage to the UCL. So be careful with him next season
-
Does RR and Cooper getting fired mean the Sox spend this winter? Paying out RR and getting a star manager like hinch will at least cost 4-5 mil next year and it makes no sense to spend that money and then go into the season with Engel in right, no 4th and 5th starter and no closer. Hahn puts pressure on himself with the firing on Ricky, he basically now is forced to win 90+ next year after a 95 win pace this year. That means he definitely needs to make some moves and improve the weaknesses to hold the level as some regression will come. Now obviously with the covid situation I don't expect a 150 mil signing but definitely spend like 20-30mil on improvements for next year (with EE coming off the books).

Sox Press Conference - 11am 10/12 - RR out as Sox manager
Dominikk85 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Of course but continue playing with a destabilized shoulder might cause more structural damage. -
Yeah firing RR and bringing in an in house guy like vizquel or jirschele would be totally lame, then you can just as well keep Ricky. Must be a star From out of the org. If they want more of a tough guy instead of a players friend who can inject more discipline hinch probably would be good.

Maybe playing 2 months with that bum shoulder made it worse. -
Sox Press Conference - 11am 10/12 - RR out as Sox manager

Wow did not expect that at all. This must mean Hahn already has a deal with an established star manager similar to what happened with RR and Joe Maddon. Maybe it even is Maddon again:). No way Hahn fires him to install an in house guy or a rookie manager like jirschele or a has been like Ozzie, it must be a veteran star like hinch, Maddon or Girardi. -

Very bad: team sold to Fred wilpon:) -
Mazara very well could bounce back (towards becoming a slightly above average hitter against RHP, not becoming a star) but not sure if the Sox want to pay 5 mil to find out.
