QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) I do not love the Red Sox as a match in a Quintana trade. Outside of Devers and Groome their system falls off pretty quickly and I'd need considerably more to move Quintana. Groome is young, but has yet to do much of anything in the past year since going pro. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...ticle-1.3288375 This author suggests a Quintana + Robertson to the Yankees in exchange for Frazier or Rutherford + Sheffield or Adams + Wade or Andujar + Abreu That's not necessarily too far off what it would take, but I would be unwilling to eat any of the money on Robertson's deal. We are all pretty sure that RH would prefer to deal Robertson separately and get a bit better return. For both Q and Robertson... I would say no. If they are getting both I think starting with Torres is the only way. That deal seems to be around the asking price for just Q.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) The package listed is pretty close to what their asking price has been for Quintana alone. yeah if I am giving up my 2 biggest trade chips I want torres and Rutherford and sheffeild and florial. I would go for what was being listed for just Q...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) Soto, Luzardo and Severino. Soto is a projected top 20 prospect after this year what about Kieboom, Luzardo and Daniel Johnson? It would be great to get an inf, an of, and a lhp in the deal... -

So looking through the Nats top 30 Daniel Johnson really jumps out! Already has 16 hrs. He would be a nice throw in piece... -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) No way a deal with Houston gets done without Tucker. Exactly. If Tucker, and probably Fisher as well, isn't included another team will easily beat their offer.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) I think the natural "halfway point" to rate the rebuild will be after the forthcoming Robertson and Quintana trades. One homerun there could swing the rankings hugely. But in the meantime, I would prematurely give the efforts so far a 7. I strongly disliked the Collins pick at the time, and it hasn't looked better in retrospect with Rutherford and Lewis both appearing to be better prospects. I did like Hansen, Call and Fisher. I liked the Duke trade. I liked the Sale trade. The Eaton trade was good value-wise in a vacuum, and it's hard to dislike it. Unfortunately, there was no way to know at the time that the lack of hitting prospects would not be addressed elsewhere. Again, the Robertson and/or Quintana trades have the potential to make a huge difference there. The Robert signing is a win. Hahn's waiver moves (W. Garcia, Hanson, Liriano, Covey) have been generally worthwhile. The minor adds (Pelfrey, Swarzak, Rayburn, Bourjos, Holmberg, Soto) have no real downside and can end up being worthwhile as well. I hope he keeps pursuing opportunities like this — an interchangeable roster plus good waiver position is a nice advantage to pay around with. Re-signing Avi was not a given at the time, and it turned out to be a great move. I don't love the Burger pick, but there wasn't much better they could do there. Overall, I don't think this team is in as good of a position as I originally would have thought they would be by now, but there are bullets left to significantly change the outlook. I really don't see how Rutherford is a better prospect... he is probably putting up worse numbers in A ball than Collins in A+. Only one HR isn't very good. Neither is the .714 ops compared to Collins .781. And Collins has improved greatly in his defense.
-
I gave it a 7. Only because we still have moves that need to happen. But it has been great so far. We have accumulated a ton of talent in the farm. People over react to everything. People freaking out over Collins and Fulmer are stupid, they still have a lot of time to grow. Also the perceived loss of value for Q... Just look at the old Buerle thread. That's exactly what the Q freak out feels like.

They are also pulling the brewers out of Helena... which sux for me to see voyagers games. But i wouldnt be surprised to see somebody else put a team here.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) 26 as well and couldn't agree more. MB, the hurt, PK, 05. Some of this franchises finest hours and players. 31... I think I had it a little better cuz I can include the earlier 90's

QUOTE (striker @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) My wishlist: Robertson + Swarzak for Kieboom + Soto + Luzardo Quintana + Kahnle for Schwarber, Jimenez, Cease, Albertos Avi for Kelly + Flaherty Abreu for Rutherford, Andujar, Abreu OF Depth: Rutherford, Robert, Soto, Jimenez, Call, Fisher, Adolfo, Basabe 1B: Schwarber, Davidson 2B: Sanchez, Moncada SS: Anderson, Kieboom 3B: Delmonico, Andujar, Kieboom, Davidson CA: Kelly, Collins SP: Giolito, Flaherty, Lopez, Rodon, Fullmer, Dunning, Hansen, Cease, Guererro, Adams, Stephens, Luzardo, Abreu I think 0 of those trades are realistic... we wont got all 3 from wash, they've already depleted their system to us. cubs aren't giving us shwaber + jimenez, I don't think avi brings that back and no way we get that for abreu

White Sox make 25 minor league roster moves
yesterday333 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
As the article says, it'll be interesting to see how they handle Zavala and Collins. I'm a little surprised Collins didn't move up because of that. Have we heard yet where they are putting Burger and Sheets? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) Fulmer looked quite good in early May. I don't understand what happened. He doesn't look different mechanically now, from what I can tell on a grainy MiLB feed at least. 23-year old repeating rookie ball, first baseman. Fun to see, but I wouldn't get excited. He played 3rd in the season opener, and made a couple really nice plays. I don't know if that changes his value or not, just thought I'd throw it out there.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:12 PM) Damn Curbelo got hit on a 3-0 pitch. Gonzo! Had a rough first professional night till that at bat. He also got hit in the helmet earlier in the game... They had to come check him out but he was fine. It didn't sound like made hard contact on the helmet. There were quite a few hbp by their pitchers last night. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Listen ok! I have the market rights to Montana. LOL I will see the Voyagers in Billings I grew up in Billings. I was hoping to make it to a Billings while the voyagers were there. But its kinda hard now with a 2 month old. I did see the game last night though.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Cool, get to Montana. Yeah, bring him to MT! Although I feel like I remember somebody saying he could start in Kan... The voyagers will be back in Helena next week so I would get to see him if they send him to the MT.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Side note: What the heck are the Astros doing with Francis Martes??? He has been awful so far in AAA this season posting a 2.10 WHIP in 32 1/3 innings and they reward him with a call up? I get wanting to showcase a player, but they arguably are doing greater damage to the young player's value than helping it. Maybe they just want him to work with their pitching coach in the majors. He has definitely struggled though...

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 26, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) Isn't Beer considered to be more like a mid first rounder at this point? Was he talking about the baseball player...

If the sox believe Burger can succeed at 3rd, similar to how they believe Collins will stick at catcher, would that make him an option for our pick?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Did you guys see who matches up on Monday afternoon? That should be a fun game! wish I could be at that one.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) Yeah I also say it as people shouldn't freak out if we draft a pitcher in the first this year. Well drafting a pitcher wont help with pitching next year either. With Kopech, Dunning, and Hansen still coming along I am not too worried about pitching. Yeah next year we wont have much but we will sign a couple of average vets again. We wont be trying to compete next year so I am not worried about next years pitching.

QUOTE (pablo @ May 25, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) I was in the camp that Q should have been traded before the season started. That being said, the underlying numbers this year are not nearly as bad as the surface numbers. 1) FIP is a full run lower than his ERA 2) K Rate is easily the highest of his career 3) BB Rate is also easily the highest of his career by a wide margin which just smells a little fluky to me. 4) He's running a pretty high FlyBall% currently which is likely leading to his increase in HR/9, but his Hard % & Soft %'s are better than his previous two years. You would expect that to even out. 5) Looks like he's giving up some untimely hits (similar to yesterday) as his LOB% is rather low at 66%. League average usually sits in the 74-75%. All in all, Quintana looks a tad unlucky based on the above. I'm not an analytics guy, but those are some of the numbers I've been trained to look at from Fangraphs articles (when trying to find some buy-low/sell-high SPs for fantasy). I think the most encouraging thing is the K Rate is way up this year. Everyone thinks that Quintana is a pitch to contact guy, but an an 8.76% K/9 rate is very very good. The BB Rate is curious as he's throwing about as many pitches in the zone as he was last year and his first-pitch strike percentage is in line with last year. If he turns some of those Flyballs into outs rather than HR's, the numbers should correct themselves. Despite the above, he's going to need to get his ERA down to around 3.6-3.8ish territory or else it's going to be hard for teams to justify trading multiple top prospects for 4+ ERA, especially with other SPs available. Obviously the good thing is the Sox have time to trade Q given his contract so I'm not really worried about not getting a good package for him - they will at some point. This is a great post. There is so much over reaction to one start and bad ERA which appears to be mostly unlucky. He is still a great pitcher and any team would be lucky to have him. If we keep him through the rebuild that's just fine with me, or if somebody wants to pay the price that's fine with me too. He hasn't lost any value in my mind.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) It's not about forcing a trade, I still think a team will offer enough to make it worth it. if its not overwhelming its not worth it... -
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Any chance of the White Sox drafting Keston Hiura? Seems to be a polished hitter who should find a home in the OF. What are the knocks on him? I cant say I'm an expert or anything, but it sounds like we can get a much better player at 11. Whether its a pitcher or college hitter, there will be something better than him available for us. He would be quite a reach...
