  1. While it was after the rebuild started, it was not a pick that was moved up by "tanking." They picked at 11. The next 2 drafts we picked in the top 5. There is clearly a difference in talent from a top 5 pick and pick 11, especially in Burgers draft when the talent dropped off at 10.
  2. You realize RBIs are dependent on things outside the hitters control for the most part. you cant get them if nobody is on base for you, or if you have a base path clogger, like Abreu. I love Abreu but it is impossible to compare players based on RBI.
  3. I see no excuse to miss out on the top guys is what I am thinking. Last off season we had our eye on 2 players and it didn't work out but we weren't in the contention window, but now we are entering our contention window and have no reason to be out bid
  4. Yup... the other picks were just from being bad while trying to be good.
  5. I am not saying spend large money on crap... We should be paying whatever it takes to land the big fish and not say its ok we didn't get him cuz next year we can get player x.
  6. People were saying that about the 2020 class as well... then everybody signed an extension. It is a really bad idea to save for next year.
  7. Actually modern fans do care. These results are exactly why they wanted the rebuild. Going for it every season was clearly not working. These 10 year results are only partially during the rebuild. Also you mentioned Burger is a reason you don't like the draft... if we had lost a couple more games we could've had a better pick and not had to take Burger who was a clear step down from everybody chosen before him.
  8. Its the overslot money we have set aside for him that he is talking about...
  9. Couldn't you also say that putting a good team out there will help even more? This year we are merely competitive if we were good we could get a lot more people. Thus signing a big time FA would be even more beneficial.
  10. Yup. and if they were to all of a sudden demand more it would look really bad to all the other teams. If you cant trust them you wont draft him or work with his agent in the future. He would be really dumb to pull a move like that. My guess is they are waiting for a home weekend series so they can have a Vaughn day, where he gets to throw out the 1st pitch and be celebrated.
  11. The problem is what is considered "really bad"... Just be done with it and have it be an electronic strike zone
  12. If he is eligible any time in the next 12 months it makes him part of the 2019 class
  13. Madrigal is still just a prospect and the more up the middle talent the better. Also, he could be your back up infielder. You don't pass up on talent because of redundancy.
  14. Man I agree. I was really hoping this wouldn't be how it turned out. Ugh... I just picture us trading away the rest of the money for more AAAA garbage. There have only been a few things in the rebuild that have annoyed me and I think this is one of them. We have had years of doing nothing to prepare for THIS class and this is all we are getting for it.
  15. Was it the framing or the umping?......
  16. All I am trying to say was that this wasn't some out of nowhere pick that we should've known better. It was also pretty clear after the draft that we were disappointed with how the draft fell. it seems like he was considered clearly a step below all the guys in front of him.
  17. I agree with you. I think I remember hearing he won a gold glove in college. It sounds like it never looked pretty but it always got the job done. We will see what he can do after the injury.
  18. Ok maybe 15 was too high. But he was def in the top 20 and the best bat still available at our pick.
  19. You realize everybody had him as a top 15 prospect at the time of the draft right? Everybody said he doesn't look pretty but gets the job done at 3b. It wasn't just Hostetler who liked him. He was also the top bat at our pick. Gotta love the revisionist history here.
  20. He is a FA after next year. What if he doesn’t want to stay here?
  21. I am not calling colome ok. A 500 record is ok. As nice as it is to win some games now, if it can help have a great team for a long time that is better... I don’t see why you don’t understand sacrificing a few wins on a 500 team to win more than that in the future is a good idea.
  22. just thought I would bump this, seeing as we are getting close. I haven't read and don't know if anything new is going on, but I am hoping that we maybe have some Cubans lined up for signing because we aren't attached to any of the top guys.
  23. That doesn't mean he is made of glass... or even injury prone. I would say a bruised heel isn't even injured... Yes, it is a hinderance in his development and will cause him to take longer to finally reach the majors (hopefully it still happens) I just don't think that is a label that really fits... yet
  24. ummmm… he had one major injury that reoccurred and sounds like has nothing to do with being injury prone. And a bruised heel... That doesn't sound like being made of glass. The 1st is really unlucky and the 2nd is extremely minor.
