  1. I guess that's why people wanted to be there; to see the riot and pitchforks come out going after Hahn.
  2. I cannot wait. Knowing there are only a handful of possibilities at #3, it will be fun to track them and catch whatever games I can.
  3. If he can stay healthy, hopefully Corey Zangari can do something close to the ridiculous pace he was on last year. He will basically be age appropriate for Kannapolis and if he stays hot he could potentially advance quickly with our lack of real 1B prospects.
  4. Yeah, that would fit under not talking about offering contracts or not.
  5. I'm pretty sure the only things they can't talk about are whether or not they offered someone a contract and what those contract figures are. That is why all the contract numbers have to be leaks and not Hahn just saying what we are offering on a conference call. The other parts of it like talking about players isn't the same as when they are under contract. When they have a contract with a team it could be considered tampering to talk about them, but when they are a free agent there is no team to tamper with, only market rates.
  6. I mean I'm more likely to believe someone who creates a burner just to leak info than someone who is a wannabe reporter trying to get credit for their guessing skills.
  7. So probably a good assumption we will try again next year.
  8. Agreed, but so far he has a 30 on the most important ability: availability. In the last three years (which are really equivalent to the three college years US players would have), he has played in 165 games and that includes 53 in the Cuban League, 16 in the CanAm league, 28 in the DSL, and 5 in the AZL, all of which are probably below his talent level so they don't really give a good read on him or help him improve. So really he has only played 63 games against like competition in the last 3 years. That is scary not only for future projection of production, but also his development or lack thereof.
  9. Dude, check the ratio. Obviously a wannabe. Also check out his most recently tweeted picture. Dude worked in insurance. Not exactly the person you would think has connections.
  10. Regardless of the rest of your argument, statcast sprint speed isn't really useful. They measure it as the fast you are going at the fast moment during your sprint. It does not measure acceleration, average speed over the route or distance, route efficiency, or jump. While it is better to have a higher top end speed, if the other parts are not there then it doesn't matter.
  11. So I got bored and made a platooned roster RHP LHP C - Castillo C - McCann 1B - Abreu 1B - Abreu 2B - Moncada 2B - Moncada 3B - Machado 3B - Machado SS - Anderson SS - Anderson LF- Eloy LF - Eloy CF - Pederson CF - Jon Jay RF - Palka RF - Valencia DH - Alonso DH - Castillo Bench - Jon Jay, McCann, Valencia, Yolmer Bench - Yolmer, Alonso, Palka, Pederson
  12. Another completely non-baseball reason it won't happen: if we wait to bring him up then there will be a random game in April with increased attendance (potentially a sell out?) that would otherwise be pretty empty while the home opener will likely have a high attendance no matter what.
  13. Hell, trade for Ben Zobrist. Report came out they are looking to trade him so they can have room for a middle reliever. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/01/cubs-have-considered-trading-ben-zobrist.html
  14. While I think there might be something to them using a trade as a loophole for punishment, there is little chance the league offices would approve the trade if they know the punishment is coming soon. On top of that, I think the players involved really only seem to be the Cuban guys because I think what they were accused of was basically human trafficking as opposed to packaging players and circumventing the cap like the Braves did. There are a couple guys that fit the Cuban player timeline that they have already traded (Yusniel Diaz, Yordan Alvarez) but the only guys they have left that fit the description and are seemingly worth anything are Yadier Alvarez and Omar Estevez. Yeah, if he has an option left sending him to to work with our new analytics guys and the new AAA hitting coach might be better for any long term potential than just platooning him in the majors. It could also give him some experience at first so he can have some versatility instead of potentially being stuck as a DH only.
  15. F--- that, lets just make this thread the entire board. One stop shopping for all your news and music recs/memes/investigative stalking/banana suits
  16. Interesting thing I heard listening to the mlb statcast podcast is that most Rockies hitters actually have much better road splits when they leave the Rockies. So basically Rockies players aren't as good as their home splits make you think, but they are also much better than their road splits would make you think.
  17. That Evan Longoria quote is so stupid. "As fans, why should “value” for your team even be a consideration? It’s not your money, it’s money that players have worked their whole lives to get to that level and be deserving of. Bottom line, fans should want the best players and product on the field for their team." Couple things here. First, it literally is our money. It might be the owners that sign the checks, but the revenue that is used to pay for players is either directly or indirectly from the fans. Second, we all want the best players on the field too. Does he not see fans being frustrated with this and complaining about the owners? Its everywhere. Yankees and Cubs fans are organizing revolts as we speak. Everyone knows the owners are being cheap and trying to maximize their profits above on field competitiveness. But that leads to the final point which is that because we know the owners aren't spending as much and therefore there is a limited payroll capacity, we care about value because we want our team to be competitive. Being competitive isn't likely if we have multiple guys making $20m per year when they aren't playing any better than a rookie who would be making a lot less so we can then spend that money on someone who will help the team win more. In that way, carrying about value is only applicable if you care about winning. In reality, Longoria was part of the system that helped lead to this situation and now he is trying to put the blame on anyone else, including the fans. Blaming the people who allow you to play a game for a living at any time is a bad idea, but especially so when a strike is almost definitely coming in the near future and it would benefit them to win the war of public opinion.
  18. I think a lot of people would be happy with Vaughn is he is anywhere near his player comp from this article: https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2019/01/16/ten-players-detroit-tigers-could-take-major-league-baseball-draft/2591270002/
  19. LOL. Player to team everyone is talking about for prospect everyone is saying will be included. pluss amount of prospects everyone thinks is necessary for deal. Not really exact details there. If he had said Luis Basabe then that would be something.
