  1. If anyone is interested in looking up some stats for current Cuban league players, I found that this is the best site: http://www.beisbolencuba.com/series/serie-nacional-beisbol-2018-2019/todos-contra/estadisticas Baseball reference has stats for past season, but not for the current one like this site does. Generally I like to find players on the site listed above and then find more info on them on baseball reference. If you have auto-translate features on your browser you can get a good enough understanding of what the columns are in the above site.
  2. I guess even without that the players are technically still eligible to play for Cuba in the WBC, so I could see the players using WBC participation as a bargaining chip for amnesty.
  3. I've actually been thinking about general online group behavior for a while. I feel like something that could work would be instituting a mandatory 30 second delay before your post or tweet or whatever is sent in which time you have an option to cancel the message. Hopefully having to look at whatever you are writing for a long enough time might make you reflect on if you really have the strong feelings you are writing or if it passes by the time the message would be sent. Even if it doesn't accomplish that goal, it would likely slow down communication enough to where there is some break in the action.
  4. I don't think they actually do. Apparently the agreement works within current regulations, so the president would have to change things for it to not work.
  5. So it sounds like every Cuban player that is 25 years or older and has at least 6 years of pro experience will automatically be released to negotiate with MLB teams with the posting fee just being a percentage of the contract. These conditions would mean they would also exceed international amateur standards so they would not be subject to the international bonus pools. So basically start scouting the stat lines and see who we should target.
  6. I think they will also like it because some of the players will probably opt to still play in the Serie Nacional as a winter league like the dominican winter league. It would also probably allow Cuba to field a better team for the WBC and olympics instead of getting killed because they are only using players that didn't defect.
  7. I wonder how we would be able to utilize a posting system. There are a handful of guys who seem like they could be major league players and they have played with either Moncada or Abreu. The Cuban pipeline could be even more valuable than it is currently. On the other hand, if it just opens to the highest bidder for older players the big spenders might just out spend everyone on any decent talents. I also wonder how much control the Cuban government would still have over players. Early reports were that a percentage of the players contract would go to the government, but I wonder if the government would negotiate the contracts for them or otherwise just only allow them to leave if they go to the highest bidder so the government gets the most money.
  8. That tweet sounded like a guy guessing and wanting to show others how smart he is if he does hit on the guess.
  9. Walker was just coming back from an injury (strained oblique muscle) that kept him out for a pretty decent chunk of time towards the end of his college season. So you are comparing an injured guy in his draft year to a multi year pro. If you want a stats based approach to comparing them, you should check out their college stats because they have asymmetric available professional data. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=201173 http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=184086 They put up incredibly similar numbers in their final college seasons, but Walker played in a much more difficult conference. Walker was also good enough that he was selected for the Team USA collegiate national team where he also did really well. To me, Call was a nice outfielder that maybe could play at the major league level, but was more likely a tweener that ends up being a AAAA player. Walker might similarly be a tweener profile, but I think he could be the best of both aspects similar to a Yelich. He has good power and good speed, but not great at either, while Call seems to be more of an average at both. I think Call is a fine prospect, but he is also the type that most organizations have and we could find another like him rather easily if we wanted to.
  10. That will likely have an opt-out after the 4th year. So basically half the time with the team. When we could probably be offering the highest actual per year salary on a front loaded.
  11. Lisle just got name dropped on the MLB Statcast podcast. It was quick but they just said how Daniel Descalso worked with him to rebuild his swing and then set career highs in slugging, on base, and homeruns while dropping his groundball rate to a career low.
  12. He didn't tell them to get off, he told them to walk themselves to the ledge and jump off.
  13. Yeah, I thought about that too. When was the last time a move really leaked through smaller sources far in advance of it being outright announced or otherwise given to the national reporters? Seems like they really got it locked down.
  14. To me, the angle with the BIL thing isn't so much that he would want to be around his BIL so much, but that his wife might be happier if she got to live in the same city as her brother. You know what they say: happy wife, happy life. If money is equal and he can make his wife happy by playing the next few years in the same city as his BIL, maybe that is enough to sway him. And the reason I like this too is that there is an easy backup plan with this if we miss out on Machado and Harper. If we get neither and want to punt this season, we can trade Abreu and his one season of control and still have someone for first base who is actually cheaper. So we would potentially get a better return than what we gave up while also saving money. So the way I see it right now, this really is a net gain no matter how we spin it. The only way I'll end up being mad about this is if it comes out we did this to try to make up for the money we weren't willing to spend compared to other teams, but since that hasn't been indicated so far I won't worry about it yet.
  15. That was my firs thought too, but it wasn't a tweet. It was a post on a subreddit. From how the people responded to him it doesn't sound like he did it a bunch of times. It sounds from the Bour post like he posted it and everyone was skeptical and then suddenly he was right.
  16. All in favor of turning this site into a Brewers fan site?
  17. Except he wasn't. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/narvaom01.shtml
  18. Something I am interested in: why is everyone assuming Zavala is going to be up to the majors quickly next year? He is supposed to be an offense first catcher, but his offensive numbers cratered at AAA.
  19. To me this signing is one of two things: 1) Overpaying for someone to hold a spot until Seby is ready because we could probably get the same for close to league minimum 2) The front office actually think McCann is a decent backup which almost no one agrees with.
  20. 2% of our projected payroll for a guy who will only be on the team a few months? You could definitely have gotten someone for less.
