  1. The USA Baseball Tournament of Stars starts tomorrow. It looks like all the top talent is participating including three guys from the Chicagoland area in RHP Quinn Priester from Cary, C Matt McCormick from Orland Park, and RHP Michael Doolin from Schererville. I saw that McCormick was named to a few all american teams and was the Gatorade state player of the year over Alek Thomas, so he might be one to watch. Here is the roster if anyone wants to look through it.
  2. Looks like he is at short for the second game
  3. With how bad and just out of sorts most of the team has been (besides Larnach) I really wouldn't be surprised if it comes out they were all hit by a bug or something. Just about every guy looks off his game and the announcers seem sincerely shocked by it.
  4. (Copied from OP update) UPDATE FOR CWS Oregon State (Nick Madrigal) vs. UNC -- June 16th @ 2PM on ESPN Mississippi State (Konnor Pilkington) vs. Washington -- June 16th @ 7PM on ESPN Both will play again on June 18th on ESPN, either @ 1PM (w/game 1 loss) or 6PM (w/game 1 win) Pilkington is scheduled to pitch MSU's second game. Texas Tech (Davis Martin) vs. Florida -- June 7th @ 6PM on ESPN2 Texas Tech's second game will be on June 19th on ESPN, either @ 1PM (w/game 1 loss) or 6PM (w/game 1 win) I couldn't find which game Martin is scheduled to pitch in, so if anyone else does, please let me know.
  5. It was hard to tell, the crowd and announcer got very excited over everything but I'm pretty sure one was a line drive down the left field line and another was off the outfield wall on the fly. His third hit was also impressive because he got down 0-2, fought one off and then hit a nice liner in front of the outfielder.
  6. Listening to the radio broadcast of the game they said Zangari has a small injury which will keep him out a few days. I'm going to assume that Nunez is still going to play the left side of the infield, but he just slid over to first while Zangari is injured so they can get all three of him, Sosa, and Beltre into the lineup.
  7. Great Falls just walked it off after a nice 5 run comeback in the 7th inning.
  8. Steele Walker, our 2nd round pick like a week ago.
  9. So they have Amado Nunez playing first base right now. I wonder if that is a permanent move or if they just have too many infielders because Lenyn Sosa is playing third base.
  10. http://www.milb.com/documents/5/1/0/281242510/2018_Voyagers_Official_Roster.pdf Great Falls roster is out.
  11. Whoa, I was just reading that before you posted it. Great minds I guess.
  12. Kind of surprised it only took slot to get him. I figured with an SEC commitment he would be a hard sign.
  13. Awesome. Love that we got all the high school guys we probably expected to sign. So rounds 1 (Madrigal), 3 (Pilkington), and 14 (Martin) can't sign yet but are probably expected to. That leaves rounds 2 (Walker), 12 (Carranza), 22 (Fitzpatrick) as guys who are eligible and should sign. Fitzpatrick told FutureSox he intends to sign after he graduates in a week or so while Carranza had indicated on Instagram that he will sign. I'm going to assume Carranza and Walker are waiting to sign overslot deals that the sign won't sign until they can sign Madrigal underslot. I'm also going to assume that none of the guys from round 33 and on are going to sign.
  14. I put that question in for Kiley's chat today but it was right at the end and he didn't answer. I'll try again tomorrow with Eric.
  15. Mo Bamba 12:19 Can you compare and contrast the top catcher this year in Joey Bart and next year in Shea Langeliers and Adley Rutschman. Who has the higher ceiling and who is the better player right now? Kiley McDaniel 12:20 Haven't seen Langeliers but I will in a few weeks and I'm told it's 50 hit/power with 55 defense, 60 arm. Bart is 45 hit/55-60 power, 55-60 defense, 65 arm. Rustchman is 45-50 hit/55-60 power, more 50 defense, 55-60 arm. All slightly different, Bart is probably the best of them but it isn't a huge difference the 2019 kids can't make up.
  16. One of the other catchers on the roster is freshman Patrick Bailey. I have no idea how his defense is, but just look at his numbers as a freshman, they are pretty great. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=210201
  17. So just over the last few years, here are the guys that were on the CNT that the Sox ended up drafting: 2017 CNT: Nick Madrigal, Steele Walker, Konnor Pilkington 2016 CNT: Jake Burger, Luis Gonzalez, Tyler Johnson, Evan Skoug, Travis Moniot 2015 CNT: Zach Burdi 2014 CNT: Zack Collins, Carson Fulmer, Ryan Burr (via trade) 2013 CNT: Carlos Rodon, Jake Peter
  18. Well there are only 9 hitters on the roster right now who are 2019 eligible, so I guess we know 9 of their top 26 already: Will Holland IF R/R 5-10 181 4/18/1998 Lawrenceville, Ga. Auburn Sophomore Josh Jung IF/RHP R/R 6-2 215 2/12/1998 San Antonio, Texas Texas Tech Sophomore Shea Langeliers C/IF R/R 6-0 190 11/18/1997 Keller, Texas Baylor Sophomore Adley Rutschman C/IF S/R 6-2 216 2/6/1998 Sherwood, Ore. Oregon State Sophomore Braden Shewmake IF L/R 6-4 190 11/19/1997 Wylie, Texas Texas A&M Sophomore Bryson Stott IF L/R 6-3 195 10/6/1997 Las Vegas, Nev. UNLV Sophomore Andrew Vaughn IF R/R 5-11 214 4/3/1998 Santa Rosa, Calif. California Sophomore Matt Wallner OF/P L/R 6-5 220 12/12/1997 Forest Lake, Minn. Southern Mississippi Sophomore Will Wilson IF R/R 6-0 175 7/21/1998 Kings Mountain, N.C. NC State Sophomore
  19. I did some breakdown of this a while back because I also found this interesting. If you look at the lowest levels of the minors (short season A, rookie league, complex, DSL) the Sox are one of 12 organizations with only 3 of those teams with two more teams sharing one, so they basically have 3.5 teams. 11 organizations have 4 teams between these 4 levels, though some have two at one and none at another. The Yankees, Rays, Astros, Mets and Diamondbacks have five teams between these four levels, so two at one level with all of those being either an extra complex team or DSL team. However when you just look at short season A ball and rookie leagues (which seems mostly equivalent), only 9 organizations have a team at both the short season level and rookie league level, though the Royals (not counted in the nine) do have two rookie league level teams and no short season team while the Rockies (counted in the nine) have one team at the short season and rookie league levels but do not have a complex team. TL;DR: Only about 1/3 organizations have both a short season team and a rookie league team, though more than half the league does have at least 4 teams between the lowest four levels while the Sox only have 3. So I would like to see us add one more team between the lowest four levels, though it does not necessarily need to be a short season A ball team.
  20. It could just be that its an above slot deal and they don't want to officially sign until Madrigal signs so they know exactly how much they have left in the pool. If for some reason they don't sign Madrigal, you don't want the team stuck with several above slot deals that would cause us to lose picks in the next draft.
  21. So after they clinch the playoffs & have the all star games when there will be a wave of promotions
  22. He was at 64 pitches and just gave up a double, so they pulled him. It's an elimination game so they basically were planning on pulling him at the first sign of trouble and bullpenning it from there. The reliever promptly gave up a hit which scored the runner, so maybe not the best strategy.
