  1. He has a couple starts in extended spring training so its not like they are throwing him out there without getting back up to speed.
  2. Yep, he's pitching right now on ESPN 2 for anyone that wants to watch.
  3. I think trade deadline next year is about the right time. It would give teams more than a year of him being healthy to see, it might be the best point of maximizing remaining time of control while also showing his talent, and it will be at a point of the rebuild where we can still make trades that help the future even if it slightly hurts the present. To me, if it doesn't happen at the trade deadline next year, it won't happen at all.
  4. It looks like Carranza is going to sign Also Davis Martin is still in the college playoffs, but it looks good for him signing because he has the tweet about being drafted pinned. Along those same lines of probably not enough to confirm, but at least there being an indication is Ryan Fitzpatrick who only has 23 tweets but 3 of them are related to being drafted by the Sox. Also, Kelvin Maldonado has a pic of him in Sox gear on his instagram. Finally, Bryce Bush probably isn't signing considering it looks like he subtweeted about his being pick with a tweet just saying "lol". So not only are we probably not signing him, you can probably count out a redraft too. I would think all of the HS guys from 33 to 40 aren't going to sign just from general patterns and checking their social media.
  5. Do we have reading from anyone at the game because a lot, if not most, of the other guys pitching were throwing harder than the tv radar guns said. I know Logan Gilbert has like 3 mph slower on tv than people at the game had him.
  6. FutureSox had some additional guys counted as signing: Round 15 Luke Schilling Round 21 Nick Johnson Round 26 Devon Perez Round 29 Taylor Varnell Round 32 Aaron Soto
  7. https://www.instagram.com/lency_delgado/ His instagram says "Professional baseball player for the Chicago White Sox" and this is his latest post
  8. Yeah, they said later that you can't challenge safe/out calls except for plays at the plate, so that explains why they didn't challenge it.
  9. Madrigal just about beat out a weak grounder to second and on the replayed it looks like he did beat it, but they didn't review it.
  10. FanGraphs just put up an odds and ends article that had notes on who will be going or going back to college as well as preliminary notes on the top guys in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 draft classes. Here is the write up for 2019:
  11. I think he could be a sneaky good signing. He batted leadoff for most of the year and appears to be athletic enough to be a utility player when he isn't catching. He also has a weird swing that could probably be ironed out so he can drive the ball a little more.
  12. New top ten rankings/mocks from Pipeline and 2080 https://www.mlb.com/news/early-2019-mock-mlb-draft/c-280269044?tid=167757330 https://2080baseball.com/2018/06/mlb-draft-ten-names-for-2019/
  13. Yeah, that's why I put all the games. Even the Pilkington announcement was just the coach saying he was switching it up, so he could pitch game one.
  14. He had his best power numbers this year but most of it came before the injuries. I believe he had 2 homeruns in the 6 games he played before getting injured. That's like the epitome of SSS, but it could be something that we look back on as an indication that he had added more power and we just missed it.
  15. So there are 5 players on 5 different teams still playing in the college baseball playoffs. I thought we should get a thread of game times and viewing information so its all in one place for anyone who wants to watch and discuss the newest Sox prospects. (all times CST) 1st round pick Nick Madrigal (Oregon State University) vs. 30th round pick Micah Coffey (University of Minnesota) Game 1: June 8th @ 4PM on ESPN2 Game 2: June 9th @ 8:30PM on ESPN2 Game 3 (if necessary): June 10th @ 8PM on ESPN2 3rd round pick Konnor Pilkington (Mississippi State University) vs. Vanderbilt University Game 1: June 8th @ 7PM on ESPN2 Game 2: June 9th @ 8:30PM on ESPN (Pilkington announced as starter) Game 3 (if necessary): June 10th @ 5PM on ESPN2 14th round pick Davis Martin (Texas Tech University) vs. Duke University Game 1: June 9th @ 2PM on ESPNU Game 2: June 10th @ 5PM on ESPNU Game 3 (if necessary): June 11th @ 3PM on ESPN2 35th round pick Jason Morgan (University of North Carolina) vs. Stetson University Jason Morgan was injured this year so he will most likely not be pitching in this series Game 1: June 8th @ 10AM on ESPN2 Game 2: June 9th @ 11AM on ESPN2 Game 3 (if necessary): June 10th @ 11AM on ESPN2 UPDATE FOR CWS Oregon State (Nick Madrigal) vs. UNC -- June 16th @ 2PM on ESPN Mississippi State (Konnor Pilkington) vs. Washington -- June 16th @ 7PM on ESPN Both will play again on June 18th on ESPN, either @ 1PM (w/game 1 loss) or 6PM (w/game 1 win) Pilkington is scheduled to pitch MSU's second game. Texas Tech (Davis Martin) vs. Florida -- June 7th @ 6PM on ESPN2 Texas Tech's second game will be on June 19th on ESPN, either @ 1PM (w/game 1 loss) or 6PM (w/game 1 win) I couldn't find which game Martin is scheduled to pitch in, so if anyone else does, please let me know.
  16. Yeah, I think that consensus remark was around the same time as the scouts one and that really made it seem like it was not a member of the scouting department that was the major dissenting opinion.
  17. I believe that KW wanted Singer while the rest of the room wanted Madrigal. Fangraphs guys thought KW would win out because he is the more senior guy. I don't think they ever said they had information that KW would definitely win, just that that is what they thought would happen. To me when Hostetler was talking on the podcast about defending and fighting for his scouts because they do this year round made it sound like he was basically saying they followed the guys for a long time and all thought one thing while the other side just came in at the end. That seems to fit with the narrative. So basically from everything I heard from the interviews with Hostetler and Hahn and what the Fangraphs guys said, the split between KW and everyone else existed and the fangraphs guys just got who they thought would win that fight wrong.
  18. Potentially. Personally I think it was true and that the FO was generally pretty honest this time because we didn't really have to be deceitful picking where we were and being honest for once helps throw off teams in the future. If a team only ever leaks fake information then pretty quickly teams will know whatever they hear on the team is incorrect and that they can count on the opposite of what the team said. To be able to keep using misinformation effectively at some point you have to be honest.
  19. The Sox picking Bohm if Madrigal were taken at 3 and there being a split in the room over Singer are not mutually exclusive. They said Madrigal was the highest on the board of guys they thought would be available and maybe they didn't think Bohm would be available but he would be higher if they thought he was. It could also be that whoever the "more decorated" member was liked Bohm more than Singer while the rest of the room had Bohm and Madrigal close enough that it swung to Bohm if it came down it.
  20. That whole thing until the last two lines made it sound like he was going back to school, which confused me because I was pretty sure he was a senior.
  21. Del Castillo was #194 in the Pipeline rankings. Almost no chance he signs, but he is one worth tracking if he signs or not.
  22. I'm not saying Witt is the better player or will go higher than Rutschman, but right now Witt might 5 tools rated at least plus. Of the more quantifiable tools he has elite bat speed and exit velos meaning he probably has at least plus power, he has a great arm for the left side, and his 60 time is plus but his home-to-first times are 80 grade. He is said to have great range and actions for short. The only two questions are really his hit tool and how much projection he still has because he is already almost 18. We will find out about the hit tool this summer and then the only question left going into the year would be how much of what he does is because he is older, much as it was for Kelenic and Rutherford.
  23. Isn't Rodon supposed to be back this weekend? Because I thought that open 40 spot was for him, but apparently we'll have to trade or outright someone else.
  24. Kiley mentioned two names for 2019 on his chat yesterday. One was Hunter Barco who we saw BA also has high, while the other was Bryson Stott a college SS. Anyone who has the time should follow the games for the college and 18u national teams because our pick is almost definitely on one of those teams (unless its a college pitcher) and it will probably be one of the players that does well that shoots up the rankings. I am okay taking a catcher, but they have to have good defense and enough of a bat to be at least an average 1B or LF. Its the same problem I have with guys who are only fringy in center or at short but get pushed up draft boards because they might be able to play those positions. As soon as they can no longer play those premium defensive positions, they don't have the offensive profile to play anywhere else. That is a big risk that I feel like isn't accurately reflected in draft rankings though it may soon be with how risk averse teams are getting.
