  1. And the Sox finish it off with the annual ACE pick https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerprofile.aspx?ID=382785
  2. In the 39th round Shea Patterson, the QB at Michigan, was picked by the Rangers. Also the Cubs picked a guy from Wauconda HS probably just so they could say Wakanda.
  3. He's the feel good story of our draft class. Warning, only read the story at the link if you are somewhere where you can cry. http://www.gwinnettprepsports.com/sports/klug-remains-positive-force-at-brookwood-despite-repeated-heartbreak/article_b13f64b2-53fa-5759-9735-36026e9cc00f.html
  4. The 33rd rounder is pretty good prospect which means we probably don't have enough to convince him to not go to college while the 34th rounder was an area cross-checker's grandson (or something similar) so we probably drafted him as a favor and he will probably go to college.
  5. Sox just picked Bryce Bush a 3B from Michigan. He is pretty well regarded, but if he is still on the board at this point he probably isn't going to sign.
  6. They can give each pick up to $125,000. Any amount above that comes out of your bonus pool money from rounds 1-10. Spending less than $125,000 on a pick doesn't save that money to be used on a different pick though, unlike the first ten rounds.
  7. He put up some pretty good numbers the past two summer in the northwoods league. 8. I didn't think about that. Kind of how Venezuelan kids are signing cheap. They did talk about how some of the guys may be under the radar just because they didn't get to play or practice as much this year.
  9. https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=395144 Gabriel A Ortiz Abreu is a 2018 C/1B with a 5-11 210 lb. frame from Ponce, PR who attends International Baseball Academy. Big and strong build, especially in the lower half, has good body life for his build. Left handed hitter, big leg lift trigger, gets it down in time, short and strong swing, straight pull approach, patient hitter who looks for his pitch and looks to drive it, has very good raw bat speed and the ball comes off the barrel hard, lots of carry on his line drives and will get occasional lift, strong hitting tools. Has good lower half flexibility for his size and showed surprising agility getting out in front of home plate to make plays, long arm action, gets some tail on his throws, can shorten up his actions throwing, 2.06 best pop time. Has a definite chance with the bat.
  10. FutureSox says Greene was ranked 244 on the BA rankings
  11. Well looks like the Twins are in here too because they just took my guy.
  12. Hello Mr. Hostetler, love having you here. I just wanted to let you know you're doing a great job and we all appreciate your hard work. If you could choose Erick Rivera that would be awesome.
  13. So are one of us like Hostetler's burner account or something? 2/3 so far on the day
  14. Carranza is a RHP from Azusa Pacific, which is a school we know Hostetler personally scouted this year. Carranza is a tranfer from Oregon and last year we picked several guys who transferred from bigger to smaller programs. Carranza is also ranked 166 in the pipeline rankings so he is well regarded and would probably need an above slot deal but he is also a junior so he wouldn't need a huge deal because if he turns it down he loses all leverage next year. His scouting report says he sits around 92 with his fastball but the video I saw had him sitting 94-96 from an easy delivery though the fastball is pretty straight. He has a good k/9 but he doesn't have great control so he walks too many guys and gives up more hits than he should, though he doesn't give up many home runs even though his home park looks like a launching pad based on his teammates stats. He seems like the perfect candidate for our pitching development to try to get his command under control and maybe add a cutter so his main fastball isn't so straight. He also has more of a projectable frame than you would anticipate for a college guy, so his stuff could even add another tick if he fills out in a better strength program.
  15. Yeah, that sounds about right. Hopefully we have some good hitting coaches in Arizona.
  16. Sounds like he has good defense and speed, but is lacking with the bat. Not a bad lotto ticket. From the three HS guys this year and Sam Abbott last year it seems like Hostetler likes guys who have other tools but need to develop their hit tool.
  17. I thought of Hess too (and I would love that pick) but a ton of the LSU guys are going back to school/keeping their commitment, so I wonder if they are all giving high numbers so they all go and have a loaded team to try and win the CWS next year.
  18. I'm taking a shot in the dark here, but I think out first pick tomorrow (which Hostetler says he has someone in mind for) is going to be Isaiah Carranza. I tried to look for similarities to other guys we drafted and think of who would be overslot, but not massively so.
