But it wouldn't make sense for him to sign for anything less than second round money and I don't think we'll draft him in the second round not knowing if he will ever commit to baseball. If he is going to stay in college to play football next year (which we are pretty sure he will) why not also not sign so he can play college baseball again next year. He would be in the same position next year if he is conflicted about football, but if he realizes after this football season that he is not going pro and instead decides to concentrate on baseball he could be a high 1st round choice. So by signing this year he is basically leaving millions on the table (like he did already coming out of HS) for basically no reason.
-
I doubt either would sign for the money we would offer them taking them in later rounds when both can focus on baseball and probably earn much more.

New pipeline mock draft just came out https://www.mlb.com/news/casey-mize-still-favorite-for-no-1-draft-pick/c-279050910 The don't have Bohm going #3 any more. Edit: Also they drop a bomb saying Nick Schnell could be a back up option. Hopefully we are scouting him to try to get him to float to our second rounder and not as a first rounder. He is a popup 5 tool talent that could be like that Trout thing of not getting much exposure because of the weather, but that would be a crazy rise all the way to #4.

Well India did change his swing heading into the year so that should probably actually be a positive and not a negative.

So there has been a ton of talk about the Giants going underslot with a HS pitcher. If Bart and Madrigal are both available at 4, who would you guys want?
-
Except he has a lot of risk because people think he will end up a reliever because of his delivery, he has never struck out a ton of people which is slightly concerning considering he should be able to with his stuff, he didn't pitch last summer so there are some questions about whether he can handle a full season load, and there were reports of something on his medicals when he was drafted out of HS and that is why he didn't sign. So he is a lower ceiling pick that also has a low floor because of these risks.
-
I didn't have time to look it up, but he gave enough info that we could probably figure it out. Didn't Roberts do really well? Because Hostetler joked saying the guys always did bad when Getz sees them, so I thought maybe Bart because I think he struggled in the tournament.
-
I thought someone else said Adell was #1 on their board last year (or at least of guys they thought they had a shot at). He also has been killing it so I might just be projecting so that I think Hostetler is better so that I'm more confident in our pick this year. Also I loved him being so honest about Laz RIvera, both in that he kind of forgot who he was and that he was probably picked as an org guy, and that he thinks he should be in Winston-Salem. I thought Rivera might just be doing good because he is old for the level, but it sounds like the organization thinks they might actually have something. It was also interesting to hear about Gavin Sheets making a swing change (presumably to hit it in the air more) and that it might only finally be starting to set in fully. What did you guys think about him talking about Bren Spillane? That thing about the contacts was pretty huge when you consider how great of eye sight almost every major leaguer has. Spillane may still have some strikeout issues, but if you can assume that he is just now seeing spin and stuff like that, you can probably project more on his hit tool improving than you usually can for college guys. With his speed he should be able to play an outfield corner and I heard his arm is pretty good, it could be a nice high upside college pick in like the 3rd round, much like Luis Gonzalez last year.

FG 2018 Top White Sox Prospects
GenericUserName replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in FutureSox Board
Yeah, it seems a little stale, but I think once the draft is over they will have more dynamically updated rankings and reports with THE BOARD so I'm not too worried about it. -
They just put out the tweet and guide explaining it, so really we got on it a couple hours before it was officially out.
-
It doesn't make sense to want to pick 10-15, but it does make sense to want to be in the position of the Royals or Rays over ours. They have a ton of picks when there is still going to be a ton of high upside talent on the board and because they aren't picking in the top 5, they can afford to be a little more risky with their picks and go for the high upside guys. All of those high upside high school guys that we couldn't justify taking because they would be too risky for us right now are available to them and they could get several of them with the number of picks they have.
-
Keep in mind that was the Florida Auburn matchup, so he was there to see both and maybe also India and possibly getting eyes on some potential later round picks in the game.
-
He said regardless of position! That means its a position player, right ?! And the first thing he says is it doesn't matter if we have it in the big leagues, so the first person he thought of was Madrigal! White Sox are drafting Nick Madrigal confirmed!
-
Mike Vasil has withdrawn his name from the draft. He was likely to be a first round pick with a small chance he fell to the White Sox second round pick.
-
Well since everyone is hating on Madrigal's swing mechanics, why don't we check out how bad Singer's throwing motion is too.
-
From what I remember we claimed him off waivers from the Padres. He was a catcher that couldn't hit so they tried him at pitching. He was hitting the high 90s but didn't have much feel or great control when we got him. He still was able to make the majors at one point with the Padres, but there was a ton of work to do. I think most thought he had the upside of a late inning reliever if he puts it all together. Hopefully he has.
-
Has anyone else gotten to the point where you don't really like any of the prospects at the top of the draft? I don't know if its just because we know the pick is one of five so we have more time to sour on each one, but at this point I feel like I'm not going to be happy with any of the possible picks.
-
I can't figure out where I stand on Kelenic. His profile changes so much for me depending on how he runs and how much raw power he has. If he has plus or more power or he runs plus or better times then I feel like he could be either a good RF or CF depending on which is plus. If both are more than plus he could be a star. If all of them project for more average than plus then you are looking at an old for his grade HS corner outfielder who's carrying tool is his hit tool which may be the most unreliable tool to project for HS kids.

The MLBPipeline draft rankings have been updated and expanded to 200 http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=draft

Just from the free portion of the article it looks like the top 3 are Mize, Stewart, Liberatore.

Yeah but even if he knows he will lose the appeal it would buy us more time for Smith to hopefully get healthy so we don't have to worry about playing Alfredo Gonzalez -

Can players appeal PED suspensions? Minor league DL is only 7 days so if Castillo could do that we theoretically could have him available until Smith is back. -

Who was that emergency goalie the blackhawks used? He did pretty well in a squeeze. Maybe he is available.
