Also, playing twice in a day (called a double-header) isn't something that is scheduled anymore. They used to do it often on weekends, but now they are only done when another game is canceled due to weather and there isn't an extra day to play the game.

MLBPipeline just updated and expanded their draft prospect list to 100.

2018 MiLB White Sox news and notes
GenericUserName replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Not sure if this guy is a pitcher or outfielder, but he is another slightly older guy we just signed. Best I can tell is he was an outfielder that got passed over and recently converted to pitching and may be able to hit 100mph. I guess we won't know for another couple years at best. -
Mr Bean 2:35 You said in the MLB Draft Prospects comment section that Kowar has two 60s. What are they? Kiley McDaniel FB and CH Adam 2:40 Can you tell me a little about Lenny Torres Jr and the round he’s projected to go in? Kiley McDaniel Sounds like he's creeping from comp round into the 1st round. up to 98 mph, flashes a plus hook, some reliever risk Anonymous 2:40 What are your thoughts on Greyson Jenista? Do you see him becoming a 20-25 home run guy? Kiley McDaniel Power for 25-30, but not a lot of loft in his swing, so will need to make that adjustment Travis 2:45 Still confident in Swaggerty's swing mechanics? (lower half and hitch) Kiley McDaniel I've found the internet is really eager to announce hitters have unfixables hitches in their swing and any teenager that throws hard will blow out later today Dave 2:51 Kiley, what's the safer bet for a team drafting in the top 10, that Rolison cleans up his delivery and improves his command or that Gilbert's fastball bounces back (perhaps he's over-worked?)? Kiley McDaniel I would say Rolison, I never bet on pitchers regaining velo they lost unless there's a clear injury/mechanical thing Jack 2:53 What's the lowest realistically Singer could fall? No chance he makes it into the 20's right? Kiley McDaniel don't think so Len 2:54 Highest spot India could go? Kiley McDaniel Could get into the teens Dave 2:55 Kiley, if the Reds don't take Kelenic, what do you think are the chances he makes it to the A's at #9? Kiley McDaniel pretty decent shot Dave 2:55 Kiley, how far has Nander De Sedas fallen and can he get himself back up before the draft? Kiley McDaniel i think he should go to school, he hasn't looked good this spring Pickle Nick 2:57 Any reliever risk with Rocker (I mean more than the typical HS pitcher)? Kiley McDaniel Not really, he throws a lot of strikes for a guy with that kind of stuff John 2:58 Could Greyson Jenista sneak into the top 10? Kiley McDaniel more 20s is what we're hearing Slick Rick Hahn 3:01 Alek Thomas’s dad is our strength coach and I am getting a college bat at 4 for sure, any chance I can push Thomas to my 2nd round pick? Cold weather HS player but he seems to be ranked higher than my pick on every board. Worth going underslot at 4? Kiley McDaniel late 20s, early 30s there's multiple teams on him, so it'll cost you but the TCU commit may help a bit Mark 3:04 Where does Michael Toglia (2019 UCLA) best profile in the long run - RF or 1B? Kiley McDaniel RF for me Hank Scorpio 3:07 What's the word on Joe Gray Jr this spring? He has massive tools but is his feel to hit improving? Kiley McDaniel 2nd round, has been solid Hank Scorpio 3:07 What do you think of Blaze Alexander? I hear he has helium. Kiley McDaniel ranked him high but he looked bad this week when i saw him and more guys are telling me that's what they've been seeing Tim 3:08 Now that a top 4 draft prospects has established themselves, where would you put their FVs? Do any or all of them slide right into the top 100 after the draft? Kiley McDaniel Tentatively all 55s, but may be some 50s in that group when the board goes up Hank Scorpio 3:07 What do you think of Blaze Alexander? I hear he has helium. Kiley McDaniel ranked him high but he looked bad this week when i saw him and more guys are telling me that's what they've been seeing

Josh 2:41 Between Swaggerty, Bohm and Madrigal, who do you think has the highest floor and highest ceiling? Kiley McDaniel 2:41 Floor is Madrigal, ceiling is probably Bohm but it's pretty close between the three LeBron is the GOAT 2:41 Have you heard even a whisper of Madrigal to Detroit? As a Tigers fan, I'd love it if we occasionally had a good hitting prospect. Kiley McDaniel 2:42 From what I've heard it ain't happenin

Yeah, with Thomas the Fangraphs guys mentioned there are signability concerns, so there may be a chance he falls to us. The more I read on him the more I feel like a comp for him would be Travis Swaggerty. Thomas has really good bad speed, but doesn't project for power. I feel like some of that is his size, but some is also his swing which seems really flat and geared for contact right now. If he has a swing change like Swaggerty and gives up some of his contact for more power, they could be very similar with a L/L CF profile of average hit/at least average power/ plus speed/above average defense.

https://247sports.com/mlb/scouting/Article/MLB-Draft-April-Big-Board-18-34-117698608 #18-34 on 247 sports big board. Probably very few of these guys will be an option at either 4 or 46, but its still a good read.
-
I wonder if they could let him try both next year (assuming we get Madrigal and he sprints through the system this year), and then play him primarily at whichever he is best, but also get usage at the other. Having the flexibility to play 3B, 2B, CF, and probably either of the corners could be very useful when we are in the playoffs.

Dunt 12:28 How does Bobby Witt Jr compare to Brice Turang? Eric A Longenhagen 12:28 More power and general explosiveness, not as graceful defensively Bobby Witt is a 2019 HS SS who many consider the favorite to go 1-1 right now
-
Assuming we get Madrigal and he is on a quick path to the majors, would you guys rather have us try Moncada at third and fill that organizational hole, or put him in center? I kind of like the idea of him at third because the range of him, Timmy, Madrigal could cover basically the whole infield.
-
Sean 12:51 Is Nick Decker trending towards being a 1st rounder? Seems like an exciting profile. Eric A Longenhagen 12:51 Maybe not rd 1 but has power and bat control, and so I'm in
-
I just really feel like the Royals are going to take him with one of their 500 picks before the second round. He would have been a great, super high upside second rounder if we could have gotten him.

https://247sports.com/mlb/scouting/Article/MLB-Draft-April-Big-Board-1-17--117665782 Top 17 for the draft from 247 sports. Two other 17 player lists will be released in the next two day to bring the total to the top 51. Nothing really surprising in this one, at least for where we will be picking. He does signal more doubt about Bohm at third, but I feel like he has always been pretty low on his defense. Also probably lower on Scott while being higher on Rocker and India.
-
Yeah, Vasil was confirmed by is school's trainer to have injured his throwing elbow, though they didn't say how badly. It sucks for him because he was trending up and was looking like a mid to late first round pick. An elbow injury this late in the process will probably scare a lot of teams off. EDIT: Trainer said he felt tightness in his forearm and they believe it to just be an elbow strain. He will get an MRI and will be shut down for 3-4 weeks if its confirmed as just a strain. Considering he is a northern guy, he might actually have a couple starts left once he gets back. It will be interesting to follow this. Also, I know HS stats are less than useless, but Law said Torres ended up going 5 innings, striking out 14, walking 2, and allowing one ball in play.

Welcome!!! Like others have said, if you have any questions feel free to ask them and we'll try to be helpful. I don't know how much you understand MLB's system for minor leagues, but right now our big league club is not the best (actually pretty close to being the worst), but we have a lot of young talent that will be coming up over the next few years and should make us good and fun to watch again. If you want a preview of that, and to get more positivity about the future, head over to the FutureSox Board section of the site. Even if our team is losing, we can dream on the future over there.

Connor Scott, HS OF, Florida He was considered probably a back of the first round type guy before the season, but he has really taken off. He is this year's Austin Beck, but he has faced better competition. He goes to the same HS as Kyle Tucker and they have similar swings. He is a possible plus hit/plus power and he already has 70 speed. He is probably below Kelenic in current ability and safety of hitting projection, but he offers higher upside because he is already faster and he has a big frame at 6'4" that is yet to fill out while Kelenic might actually be mostly maxed out. It was less the question and more him talking about the strategy will pool manipulation. He knows how deep this draft is and with the 6th highest pool we can be in a position to take advantage of that. With how uncertain drafting is, we are probably better off taking a slightly lesser talent underslot if we like someone who we think will fall rather than go overslot with someone who is just barely BPA.
-
I would say thought that it is probably easier to keep scouting of a HS guy quiet because the analysts probably aren't out there as often because they can't scout the other players on the team as much. I mean we didn't think Royce Lewis was going 1-1 until a few weeks, if not less, before the draft.
-
I feel like they are trying to keep quite on the Kelenic front. If he has less hype for the top of the draft then its more likely he will be willing to sign under slot.

It is going to get worse before it gets better

Timeline hasn't changed. 2020 is when our reign begins. Anything before that was always just going to be the cherry on top. -
Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
GenericUserName replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With the new system the highest pick anyone can lose is their second rounder. So we don't even have to worry about the first rounder. And I do think Machado gets traded, so it won't even matter. I do wonder whether we try to trade for Arenado and sign him to an extension if we whiff on Machado. -
https://www.draftsite.com/mydraftsite/craiglambert50/mlb/mock-draft/2018/ This mock seems much more up to date. Also, I wouldn't worry about the Sox at 4. From what it sounded like on the RLR episode with Hostetler they are definitely trying to go under slot with the pick. I think any of the three college bats who will be there would be willing to go at least slightly under slot.

Cool tribute by the Dodgers' organist

So I don't think it was us. In the fangraphs mock they mention Bart being connected to the Giants.

Logged in and saw the layout and I thought I was high. Then I remembered the whole point was updating it haha. It looks great so far. Thanks for all the work you do for this board!!!
