QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 04:28 PM) Bart? Georgia Tech catcher. They just ranked hi #9 on their new rankings
-
Only other thing I wanted to bring up from the Kiley chat was him saying one team in the top 5 is seriously considering Bart. He'll probably mention it when they do the mock, but I just thought that should be brought up considering there is a 20% chance its us.

Baseball America: White Sox International Review
GenericUserName replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in FutureSox Board
I'm going to keep an eye on this guy. I really think he might have just been a Cuban guy that slipped through the cracks. He was playing in the CNS at like 17 and was holding his own. -

Yeah, disappointing he only mentioned like three guys. I do take some solace in knowing I was right about Quintero being the Cuban shortstop I thought he was. He played with Luis Robert in several international tournaments. I don't know why he fell off the map, but it seemed like he was a good talent when he was younger that would have been a big J2 signing if he was from anywhere other than Cuba. -
Another guy I just noticed is off the list is Griffin Roberts. I'm not sure he was ever really that high, but he is a RS-JR who could go early on the second day and would basically be a senior sign in terms of underslot.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 10:07 AM) His error in the 1st already cost them 1 of the 2 runs given up in that inning. Haha, so that is probably a "no" to him playing there long term

Anthony Villa starting at 3B in Kannapolis is interesting. I wonder if he can actually play there.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 09:52 AM) I really wish there was a high school position player to take underslot at #4. The college bats have risen throughout the process just like they always do. They just have no margin for error. Alec Bohm will be 22 years old in August. If he has any setback at all, then he isn't debuting in the big leagues until he's 24. Madrigal has to stay at SS. Swaggerty is solid too but he just doesn't seem like a guy good enough to go #4. If they could sign their favorite HS position player or even Liberatore for like $5 million, that might be the best play. I'm expecting them to take a college bat at this point though. I mean they could try to go underslot with Kelenic or Scott. Both of those guys also have their own problems but they could probably get them underslot and they both have as much upside, if not more, than the three college bats.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 09:35 AM) Speaking of Baker, he just broke a bone in his leg and will be out a bit. He sure gets injured a lot. Yeah, that's why I thought he would definitely be available in the third. Power like that in the third could be a good pick even if he has injury and contact concerns. Also, a name that wasn't on the list that we could target: Kody Clemens. He has been on fire lately and he might be able to play short. He has mostly played second because he had TJS, but if we think the arm is healthy and good enough to play short, he could be a steal. EDIT: Looks like Clemens has actually been playing third this year, so he has the arm and middle infield experience and could offer position flexibility.

We are going to get a good player in the second round. There are so many good names in the 40s. Hell, we might be able to get Beer or Luken Baker in the third round at this rate.

White Sox narrowing draft targets

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 10:49 PM) Its hard to tell. I feel like the only HS guys that get talked about are the ones who have risen into the top 10 or have moved several rounds. I feel like De Sedas is probably in that 15-25 range. I stand corrected. The new fangraphs rankings don't even have him in their top 55. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 09:05 PM) Is De Sedas even in the Top 15 these days on most lists? Its hard to tell. I feel like the only HS guys that get talked about are the ones who have risen into the top 10 or have moved several rounds. I feel like De Sedas is probably in that 15-25 range. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 09:41 AM) I don't follow the pre-draft stuff as closely as some of you, but I really hope the Sox take a position player with their pick. Yes, you can never have too much pitching, but the Sox do have gobs of pitching. We need more bats. From everything that has been said about the first few picks and connections to the Sox, it looks like we are definitely taking a bat unless Mize falls to us. If that happens then its likely the bats we wanted were taken and he is too good of a pitcher to pass up.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 09:50 AM) With guys like DeJong and Senzel getting moved to MI positions, I think there is a strong case to be made that there is now greater possibility of unlikely guys now being playable in those positions due to shifting and the like. And some scouts are adamant he could be a great SS now, he's just at 2b because of the team set-up. The only thing I would be worried about with him at SS is his arm strength. Those other guys had the arm, range was the question. Madrigal has better range, but I don't know about his arm.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 08:47 PM) Soooo Cordell's year might be done Dang, was it that bad? Was it his back again?

QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 08:15 PM) Singer has the psycho factor though that you can't measure https://twitter.com/KAGS_Colin/status/87437..._site=forthewin Mize has all the better pitching qualities that you can measure. Mize is not only above Singer, several other pitchers are also above Singer while Mize has pulled away as the #1 prospect in the class.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 04:33 PM) Does Madrigal really have a red flag? His size could potentially limit his upside, but he’s seems about as safe of a prospect as they come. Maybe size, maybe the injury, maybe he just didn't mention him because he hasn't played? Hard to tell, but its interesting that as much as there are so many good guys at the top of the draft, they all also have something that teams may not like.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 04:29 PM) Isnt Thomas the assumption? Or he moves down to 3rd or 4th round and they make up the difference? I hope this is what happens, but I feel like he might be the guy in the second. I think he is a good prospect, but he just doesn't excite me like some of the other guys that could be there in the second round. The comp I thought of for him is Charlie Tilson. Good contact, low power, good speed and fielding but bad arm. He could be a CF that hits .300 and steals 20 bases, but thats about the only profile that fits. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 02:30 PM) I feel pretty confident we’re drafting a college bat. Unless Mize somehow falls to us, I expect the pick to be Bohm, Madrigal, or Swaggerty. On that note, I saw this earlier:

QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 03:18 PM) I feel like your list is from months ago... It definitely is. The guys now are Mize, Swaggerty, Bohm, Kelenic as almost definitely on the list. Madrigal and McClanahan are also probably on there. For the other spots, maybe Gilbert, Liberatore, Stewart. Our pick will probably be from one of those first four though. -
So we're going to draft Michael Byrne from Florida is what I got out of that comment haha.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 10:32 AM) Surprised Liberatore seen as a riser. Didn't have much to rise, hasn't performed that well recently. I almost feel like he means since the season started, not just his recent movement.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 12:01 AM) Oops, thought he was reacting to Clarkin and not Cease. With Cease, it's the overwhelming stuff right off the bat in ST...carrying over to the regular season as well. For example, the fact that he's not pitched SIX complete innings in a game, he never did that (entire MILB career) up until his last start. Ha, reading it back now I think he might have been talking about Clarkin. So I may have been wrong.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 11:03 PM) I think you’re overreacting to two good starts. I don't think so. Most of the prospects analysts were super high on Cease even when he wasn't performing. I think we were all lower on him than we should have been even if we thought he was going to be good.
